-Seth-
"How is she?" Seth had been waiting patiently for Anya to exit Naysha's room, standing in the corner of the hallway for the past thirty minutes. He had tried to sound as much uninterested as he could, but the puzzled look on his sister's face said otherwise. Damn it, this woman affected him more than he wished to!
He knew that she wasn't hurt, he had made sure of that by killing on the spot that wolf that dared to atrack her. But she had fainted and she would most definitely be shocked about all these. Anya had promised to deal with all the mess, but she wasn't to be trusted. For all he knew, she could just tell Naysha the whole truth about them while giggling like a child.
"She's ok, just a bit tired, that's all. The drug you put in her drink harmed her more." She joked, but she quickly frowned as her puzzled eyes scaned him up and down. "What's the last time you slept?" she added.
He almost laughed at her. Sleep? He hadn't slept properly ever since Anya had brought her to the palace. Her smell seemed to be everywhere, on his clothes, on his body. He swore he could smell her even on his bed sheets, even though she had never been in his room. He would twist and turn restless every night, with his wolf howling in his head, desperate to go to her.
Because, for his wolf, Hunter, everything was simple; she was his Luna, created just for him, and he needed her by his side. The fact that she was just a weak human ment absolutely nothing. But, luckily for the future of Blood Moon Pack, he was more sane than his wolf. And he knew very well that, surrounded by enemies, they needed a strong Luna in order to survive. A Luna that wouldn't be easy to harm, to kill. And Naysha was not such a Luna.
But what about yesterday?, Hunter barked at him. He did have a valid point. He would never expect such a small and fragile creature as her to stand up for him like she had done last night. She had no idea about who he or the other wolf were. And despite that, she had hit the other wolf with that rock in order to save him.
It was stupid of her, she could have died, he replied back and quickly shut Hunter out of his mind.
"I'm busy lately, our enemies are multiplying. I don't have time to rest", he lied to her. He hated lying to Anya, she was the only family he had anymore. He wanted them to be close. But she wouldn't understand his doubts, his concerns. To her, life was a big party, he was the one to keep her away from anything that could ruin that for her on purpose. Their family needed at least one to remain pure and optimistic. He knew how much she liked Naysha, she would be planning an extravagant wedding ceremony in no time if she found out that he was mated to her. No, he had to keep this secret from her.
Anya simply rolled her eyes to his lies. "You're working too much".
"Someone needs to. About your friend, did she suspect anything? The last thing I need is word to start spreading about us in the realm of humans". He was intentionally sounding angrier in order to confuse Anya.
And it seemed to be working. She made the same pouty face she would always make whenever he would start lecturing her about humans. "Don't worry. I covered it up."
"Good. Keep her busy, I need to investigate the matter of the wolf that attacked her last night", he ordered her and started walking towards his office, mind-linking his Beta at the same time.
Callen, his Beta and closest friend, was in his office in no time.
"You look like s**t", he teased him playfully. He frowned once he saw that Seth's expresion would remain unchanged.
"What's wrong, Alpha?"
"Did you discover who attacked the human?" His gazed was focused on the garden outside the window.
Callen sat on one of the armchairs in front of Seth's desk. "You're not gonna like this one, I'm afraid".
Seth's fist met the table, making Callen jump a little in his seat. "You know I hate stalling!" he growled.
"Ok, ok, I'll cut right into it. So, the wolf that attacked princess Naysha was a nobody, I asked around. He's homeless, sleeps in the market. He pickpockets for change to buy some booze. He was probably drunk last night, too. So, at first, I thought that he most likely snuk in the palace while we were in the woods, looking for a purse or anything valuable to steal when he saw the princess and panicked, tried to attack, then you beat him to it and the rest is history".
"But?"
"But, he was seen talking to Jared right before the party. Outside of the castle, close to the forest, away from both the cameras and the patrol. I think they were planning something, Alpha", he added.
He was right, he didn't like this. Jared had always been a scumbag, up to no good. He would never have chosen him as his Gamma, but he was bounded by the tradition of the pack. Ever since the pack was formed, the closest male relative of the Alpha would become his Gamma. He could change that, but this would only make Jared realise that he was suspicious about him. And Seth knew that it's better to keep your enemies close. So, he had given him the position of Gamma, but kept an eye on him at all times and wouldn't share anything that could be useful for Jared to use against him.
Because he also knew that Jared had his eye on Seth's position. Ever since they were pups he was always dreaming of becoming Alpha someday, so it came as no surprise to Seth that he was behind the attack. His greediness and thirst for power would lead him to do much more despicable stuff than to murder his own cousin and Alpha.
But, till yesterday he had never orchistrated anything. Something had given him the opportunity to act. And the only thing that it could be, was Naysha's presence to the castle.
He sighed.
"I think it's time to change our old ways. Tell Jared to come meet me in the garden at noon. And make sure that the human is not there". He had to get rid of Jared. He hadn't attacked him, but Naysha. Which could only mean that he was suspecting that they were mated to each other. Otherwise, he wouldn't care to organise an attack on someone like her. He didn't know how, perhaps he was even spying on them when they were alone in the garden.
Hunter roared in his head. He didn't like the idea of anyone spying on them, especially some scumbag like Jared. And the fact that he must had done it while they were with their mate was making him even angrier. He wanted to claw Jared's heart out of his chest just for daring to lay his dirty eyes on Naysha when she was twisting and moaning in his arms.
Callen gave him a puzzled look. "You're gonna kill him, am I right?"
Seth gave him a deathly glare. "Yes".
"But, he only attacked the human. It's a bit excessive to pay with his life for someone as unimportant as her."
"She's not unimportant!" Seth growled at him and Callen bared his neck in submission. She was his mate, as much as he hated it. Even the thought of her dying was enough to drive him crazy.
"I mean", he quickly tried to fix it, before Callen suspected anything, "that Jared wouldn't just orchistrate an attack on the human for no reason. There has to be some kind of plan. And I have no intention to keep him around and give him the opportunity to execute it" he lied.
Callen nodded in aggreement. "You're right, Alpha. That bastard had never done anything more than throwing deadly glares at you. It's better to use this opportunity to get rid of him".
Seth nodded. "Exactly. Now go organise our little surprise for my dear cousin. And make sure Lucas is present, too. I plan on making him my new Gamma". Lucas had proved his loyalty and devotion to him more than once in these past days. He was the perfect candidate for the position of Gamma.
"He's an excellent choice." Callen smiled at him nodding enthusiastically.
