Chapter 10The ringing of his phone wasn’t a sound Noah was accustomed to anymore. He had barely used it since his arrival in Cane’s Inlet, and it wasn’t like anyone from White Pine had reached out to him once he’d driven across the Paddy Rogers Memorial Bridge and zoomed out of town. He’d truly left that place behind; he reminded himself to call the real estate agent for an update. It was nine forty-two in the morning when it rang for a second time, its unfamiliar strums coming as he was stepping out of the shower. Wrapping a towel around his waist and dripping water on the floor, he dashed for the phone, not sure why; probably just a telemarketer. Who else could be looking for him? There was no name attached to the number on his screen, but he recognized the area code—732—as the local one
