CHAPTER 1:A fresh start
~Flora~ I woke up to the sound of my alarm feeling like hell. I know I shouldn't have gone clubbing with Malory yesterday but she was just too convincing, we were both celebrating our new job at Style scape interiors. It has been my dream to be an interior designer and I finally get to have a fresh start after what happened two years ago. I shuddered as I got a flash of the memory I've been suppressing since that incident. “Arghh, why am I even thinking about that incident? I don't need to spoil the rest of my day and, besides, I already feel like hell” I said to myself. I got up, had my bath and got dressed feeling much better than when I got up and ready for my first day at one of the best interior designing companies in New York. I was putting on my final touch of make-up when I got a call from my best friend Sasha. “What are you still doing girl? I'm outside already and if you don't get your ass out here we're going to be late”, she said. “I'm already done, I'll be down in 5 just chill”, I told her. I don't know how that girl does it. She's always so chirpy in the morning but I still love her anyway. I grabbed my bag and a cup of coffee before heading outside my apartment. When we got to the office, we were given our employee pass and ushered to our various departments. I was in the designing department while Malory was in the accounts department. I was shown to my office, which was nice. It had two floor to ceiling windows with a breathtaking view of the city, a wooden desk, a pretty wooden shelf, a potted plant and a nice office chair which was really comfy. I immediately fell in love with the space I thanked the lady that showed me to my office and started placing my things in order before I had to meet with my boss, Mr Patrick. I knocked on Mr Patrick's door and heard a voice say “come in” before I entered. Immediately I entered his office I was met with a very stunning view of the city and large floor to ceiling windows. “Miss Anniston, I'm happy to have you on board with us. Please have a seat so we can go over a few things”, Mr Patrick said “Thank you sir, it's a pleasure to work with your company”, I said, and took my seat. “I hope you've been well settled, you will be receiving the details of your first assignment tomorrow and you'll be working with a major client. This will be your evaluation, so don't mess it up”, Mr Patrick said. “Okay sir thank you I won't mess it up”, I said with a smile plastered on my face. “I hope, so miss Anniston, you can proceed to the meeting room on the second floor for your orientation”, Mr Patrick says “Okay sir”, I say and made my way out of the office. I was so excited, I felt over the moon . I did a little victory dance in my head and composed myself before heading to the meeting room. At the meeting room, I met up with Malory as we listened to the dos and don'ts of the company. We were also shown around the place. Malory and I talked about how our day had been going so far. I told her about how I was getting my first assignment tomorrow before switching to random topics. After the orientation, I went back to my office to start making random sketches of designs that might be useful in my first assignment. I was so focused on sketching designs that I didn't realize it was already time for lunch break until Malory came to my office, to drag me out for lunch. “I know you're excited and all that you're finally working your dream job, but we need to go for lunch. I'm starving”, she said “Me too, I wasn't able to eat anything this morning, let's head to the lunchroom”, I told her. “I'm craving a turkey sandwich, I just hope they have that there”, she says while pouting. “This is the best turkey sandwich I've ever had, I'm seriously in love with this place. I can't believe that we've gotten the opportunity to work at Style scape, it still feels a bit unreal”, Malory says. “I know right I still can't believe I've come this far. I'm so happy that we're doing this together. I love you Sasha, you're the best friend anyone could ever ask for”, I say getting really emotional. “I love you too baby girl”, she says with a wide smile. If anyone told me that Malory and I would be the best of friends today, then I would have laughed right in their faces. I met Malory in my third year in college, two years ago, I had just transferred to New York University. She was my roommate at the time. She had a very bubbly and chirpy personality and was always happy, she was always good at socializing and wanted to be my friend, but I was in pain at that time so everything she did annoyed me.I always picked fights with her but she would end up being the one to apologize. She understood I needed my space and started leaving me alone until I had a mental breakdown and she was the one to pick me and from there our friendship blossomed. Ever since then, we've been thick as thieves, although I still haven't told her the reason for my breakdown. She doesn't push and understands that I'll tell her when I feel comfortable. “We should head back to our office now Flo, lunch break is over we'll meet in the lobby after work”, Malory says, bringing me out of my reverie. “Yes we should, I'll see you later Lory”, I say. We both part ways and head to out various offices I was on my way to my office when I bumped into a hard surface, I braced myself for the impact but it never came.
