PART I - FROM DEATH ---------------------------------- We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell. – Oscar Wilde. ----- Arabella's heart was breaking. This was all too much. She crawled away from the bloodshed, through the thick forest even when she knew she was not going anywhere. Not in this condition. She was damned to die in the freezing snow. There was no escape. She heard Vincent's mocking laughter following her through the mist. He knew she was not walking away from this. The f*cking douche knew! She cursed him. She stumbled on something and fell. She closed her eyes as helpless tears touched the snow around her. The hatred in her grew as she closed her eyes... Dead eyes. Broken bodies are scattered across Vincent's big pack land, discarded like garbage. Her brother. Her best friend, Becca. Their Beta. They were all gone. Just a few weeks ago, she was glowing and happy. Glowing with love and laughter, but now here she was... her glow had turned dim and gray and her fire was snuffed out. The golden hour just before twilight was cloaked with the darkness in her soul. The magic hour was now without any magic. The emerald and Jasper-colored trees dotting the vast stretch of the forest behind Vincent's pack were now bathed in the soft shadows as Arabella cursed her fate, her life and her mate. The snow was slowly wearing the color of ruby! If you are looking at this, Moon Goddess, know that you have failed me, just as my MATE has failed me! She curled up in the freezing snow, blood dripping from the jagged slashes all over her body. It was her heart that ached more than any other wound in her body, and she had lots of wounds. Long gashes ran across her arms, along her stomach, her back, her neck. Her legs and thighs had scratches from the claws of Vincent's bītch, that still bled. Her bones were broken in odd places. Her soft white dress, the one she had chosen with so much love for the mating ceremony, with the help of her two best friends, Ziya and Becca, was hanging from her body, torn to pieces. And Becca, amazing, vivacious Becca was as torn up as the dress, too. Vincent's mistress had... mauled Becca until she was unrecognizable. Paralyzing pain surged through her body as she thought of everyone who was dead. "I am so sorry, so sorry I couldn’t help you," Kia, her wolf, whined. Arabella could feel Kia's helplessness, anger and suffering. This was supposed to be the best day of their lives. Finding a mate was said to be the most precious gift of all. And because of this vile creature the Moon Goddess had deemed to be her mate, it had become a grisly macabre. Arabella looked up into the cold eyes of her mate. It was colder than the snow. Freezing. His dark brown eyes that had looked at her with so much tenderness just four weeks ago now glowed viciously, like dark burning coal. She knew his wolf was trying to fight him for dominance, that his wolf wanted her and Kia to be dead, right this instant. It was the cruel truth. This man, the one the moon goddess had paired her with... was not a man. He was a monster. The Goddess must be freaking blind! "Why?" Her lips trembled, but she refused to cry. "Why did you- why- what did I do to-" "I have no other option, Arabella. This has to be done. I can't wait for you to become my destruction. I have to..." He said coldly. His voice was colder than the freezing snow she was lying in. Her body had gone numb from the cold, and she wanted her heart to go numb, as well, but it didn't. Not yet. It still throbbed; stung. "You had one. You could have rejected me. I would have accepted it. But this- this bloodshed, this cruelty, do you think I deserve this, Vincent? Deserve this for loving you?" Her voice was wobbly. She looked at the harsh shadows of his face, playing against the growing darkness, and she felt like she was seeing him for the first time. Truly. She had never seen this man... "I don't. I don't fûcking deserve this." For a second, she saw his face change, just a flicker of emotion in his eyes, and then the cold, indifferent mask was back. His eyes changed, his fangs protracted out of his lips, signaling that his wolf, Leo, was taking over. "I don't have to explain myself to you." Leo growled out as his claws lengthened. His body was changing and black fur started to cover his hands. "You think I don't even deserve an explanation, Leo?" She blinked her tears out. Her vision was turning dark and she knew she was going to die any moment now. She had lost a lot of blood already and there was no way in hell she was going to survive this. She wouldn't want to survive this. Who would she even live for? Everything in her life was gone! At first, she thought of living... just so that she could come back to hunt and haunt Vincent, but she was sure she couldn't take such a burden. And this man... the man she had loved for four weeks, with the passion of a million suns, the man she had given her heart, mind, and body to, the man she had trusted with every cell, he was the one who had destroyed her home, her people. He and his wolf were not the dream she had. They were the nightmare. The nightmare from hell. "Stop. This is over. Go to sleep." Leo snarled the words out, his voice dripping with his madness, his eyes glowing blood red. She had never liked this wolf. He was a savage monster. There were no f*cking feelings left in him. Go to sleep meant... die already! She wasn't dead yet. Oh, she wasn't. She fûcking wanted to live, just so that she could see him die. Her eyes gleamed viciously as she looked at him. Kia wanted to pounce at the fûcking mutt, and kill him... but Kia was just as helpless. "This isn't over, Leo, Vincent. Assholes. Not until I say it is over." She moaned weakly as her weary body wanted to shut down. Already. "Not over," she sobbed out. His answering laughter was maniacal. His dark glowing eyes scanned her with derision. He shook his head with a dark look on his face, his lips pulled back in a snarl. Fûcking bastard. "You are already dead, Arabella. You are weak and, had you lived, you would have made me weak. Death is your release, Arabella. It is not a punishment, understand that and you will be liberated." The freaking wolf was only half transformed, but his powerful voice rang through the quiet forest, disturbing the stillness. Birds fluttered above in fear... "Let it go." He turned away from her, his body fully shifting back to human. She grabbed the heeled shoe she was wearing. It was just as broken as her body. She hurled it at him with one good hand, but it fell just a few feet before him. The Goddess wouldn't even give her this one thing! Gathering all her strength, she screamed at the top of her lungs. "STOP. THIS IS NOT OVER." The anger in her voice echoed through the cold, quiet forest. Trees shuddered at the ferocity of her voice, as the wind furiously swept snow around them. It was as if even nature was afraid of the wrath in her voice. Vincent stopped on his track and his body went rigid. He could feel her voice, the command in it. He could not help but obey her, even as Leo howled inside, refusing to stop, he had to stop too. This wasn't someone who was weak. This was someone who was made to be strong. This was someone who was made not to die in the snow. She was... an Alpha, and... Her voice was powerful. Magnificent. Wild. It was the voice of an Alpha. It was the voice of a warrior. "This is not over." She moaned aloud, as the wind slowly ceased blowing. Everything went absolutely still. The Twilight sky turned dark. And then there was only a soft, lingering aftertaste of her last breath around them. Even the air felt heavy with the sadness of her death. The icy frost around her slowly gripped her body, as snow froze in her eyelids. Her body jerked one last time before she went still. Vincent clutched his chest for a second. He felt it, felt the loss of her life, deep in his bones. He screamed, breaking the quietness. "It is over. We will be strong again!" Leo growled out. Vincent didn't answer to the wolf. Arabella felt the last drop of light fading and then she was in darkness. She knew this was it. She was done. So f*cking done. She couldn't get her revenge... but maybe it was okay. She would get to meet her brother, her best friend, Becca, again. They could at least be together in death! She would miss her other best friend, Ziya, but she was happy Ziya was safe. Away from here. She closed her eyes, letting the darkness softly enclose her. But only a few seconds later, she saw a flickering blue light glowing and dancing. She felt like she was floating in space. The light was calling to her. She flew towards the light, and said, "Am I dead?" "Yes, but .." The light pulsed, throwing colorful prisms around, and then it started to flow around her, entwining around her skin. Her cold body was slowly, slowly warming. What is happening? She thought with confusion. Was she back in Euretya, again? Was she not...dead? Her head was filled with a million questions. Where the hell am I? "Your time, Arabella, is not yet over. You have so much to do, so much to live for. Do you want to go back?" A woman appeared in front of her. Why? Why would she? Is that a choice she can have? But this choice doesn't sound like a good one. The woman had long blue hair flowing down her back. Her eyes were like glittering stars. They were swirling in the dark space filled with silver rocks floating around them. She felt suspended in time... between worlds... "Moon Goddess?" Arabella blinked at the beautiful woman. She was ethereal, she was made of light and moonshine. And the buzz of power in her body was warm, calming. "Do you want to go back?" Selene asked, her blue eyes full of glowing stars and concern which Arabella didn't trust. Not at all. Not after what had happened to her. "Why would I go back there? There is only death and pain and suffering there! There are only monsters there," Arabella hissed, her eyes, the soft green ones, losing their shine. She wanted to punch the solemn looking woman in her face, but she refrained from giving into the intense temptation. "Because... there is something else waiting for you there. Something better and bigger and a destiny you can't run from. I am sorry this happened to you, but... you life is still waiting." "Sorry?" Arabella scoffed. Destiny. This bītch is crazy as fūck if she thinks I am going to do anything she asks! "Fûck you, Selene. I don't trust you. You gave me Vincent and I trusted you. Now, look where I am. Fūcking dead! I politely decline your offer, you stupid bītch." ----- This story is set in a magical world called Euretya. An: This is my first ever story on dreame. And I am so damn excited about this.
