Chapter 9: The Beginning of the End

1110 Words
“Multiply the x by the value of what’s shown in the table…” Ever since we fended off the invaders, I’ve been supervising the training of my students for a while and monitoring the town for more possible information about other factions. Sadly, there hasn’t been any luck. “Mr. Folly, would you mind answering the problem?” The professor looks at me. Crap, I haven’t been listening. “Y-yeah, I’ll try” I stood up and went to the board. I attempted to answer the problem but… “That’s not the answer, Mr. Folly. Are you feeling under the weather?” He looks at me with concern. “I’m sorry, I’ll do better next time” The bell rings and the professor ended the class. I went back to my seat and lets out a sigh. “Arc? Are you okay?” Eve approaches me, “You’re pushing yourself, aren’t you?” “I’m just a little bit tired, looks like I’m still not used to the new routine” I stretched out my arms, “I just need to get used to it”. She puts her hand on my forehead and looks at me, “You’re a bit hot..” “Of course, that’s because I’m alive” I grabbed her hand. Slowly, I can feel my eyes getting heavier and my consciousness fading. “Wha----“ Before I knew it, I fell unconscious.  “Haven’t you had enough?” A voice appeared out of nowhere, “Pretending you care but in reality, you’re just escaping the hurtful truth” “How is it I’m escaping? I’m just doing what I would normally do” I replied. “Normally? That’s funny because you ended everything back then” The voice became cold, “Don’t tell me you already forgot what you did” “W-What I… did?” I stutter, “I-I can’t remember doing such a thing” After saying those words, my chest became heavy. “Do you feel it? The guilt that weighs you? Your sins crawling on your back? The memories you buried deep down yourself?” The voice sounded colder and colder. Her words began to get to me; it felt like being stabbed multiple times. The uneasiness began to take over me. “You just used the people around you to do your bidding” The voice continues. “No, that’s not true” I don’t want to hear it anymore. “Students? Don’t make me laugh, you just wanted them to give them false hope” “No, that’s---“ It cut me off “Family? You just accepted them just to kill time” “No!” “Children? You just wanted to see the world the legacy you own” “NO! THAT’S ALL A LIE!” The uneasiness turned into anxiety and fear. “How could I lie? After all…” The person behind the voice revealed herself, “I’m you” My eyes widened the moment I saw her. “We both have sins to shoulder, this is the truth” She shows no emotions at all, “This is the price for the power we both seek” “Is this power… Is it to protect?” I ask her, “What’s the purpose of it? Why did we seek it?” “We seek it because we WANT it, that power is nothing more but a curse” She gives me a cold smile, “You were nothing but a villain in everyone’s story. You wanted power and used it as you pleased” “B-But that’s not how I remembered it! That’s not the person I am!” I try to fight back, “I won’t accept this!” “You don’t get it, do you? This is the truth, it doesn’t matter to me what you think” She slowly approaches me, “From now on, we will continue the legacy of Arya Folly”   It’s been a week and Arche hasn’t been awake. He’s been brought to a hospital but even the doctors doesn’t know the reason why he won’t wake up or the cause of it. Even Eve, Andrew, and Sonya didn’t know what happened with Arche’s sudden lost consciousness and they couldn’t help ease the worries of his parents and sister. At the moment, the three decided to have a meeting with the others. “This is bad, our enemies might take this opportunity to attack and what’s worse is that we absolutely have no idea when he will wake up” Andrew started to talk, “We need to take initiative” “That’s true but what happened with the master?” Sonya looks down, “Have we been pushing him too much?” “I… don’t know” Eve silently answers. The room became silent and Andrew lets out a sigh. “You two, inform the owner to talk to me and I’ll handle it from here. Get some rest first” He stands up and was about to leave the room. “No, I need to do my part as well” Sonya stops him, “I need to do what I need to do” “I can’t just do nothing as well…” Eve follows, “I can’t stay like this” “That’s fine by me, but for now get some rest. I’ll update you two on what’s going to happen” Eve and Sonya look at each other and looks at Andrew again. “Thank you!” They both say at the same time. The two of them walked home silently. “Hey, Eve? Want to come over?” Sonya glances at Eve, “I figured you need some time to relax” Eve stops and takes a deep breath. “Sure, I need to keep myself together” Eve smiles at her, “Thank you” “Then let’s go!” Sonya grabs her hand and runs. A few weeks later, Arche finally opened his eyes. However, something was wrong with him. His eyes were devoid of life, the way he speaks is different as if he was entirely a different person. It was the beginning of the end, just like what happened in their past world. Arya Sucaumus ended everything way back then and it’s the reason why there are many people in that world reincarnated into this world. It was all preparation for something big that was about to happen. An existence so powerful that it can ignore the rules and bend them instead, it was no doubt that Arya is not what everyone thinks she is.
