THE OCEAN HEIRESS
Chapter One: The Girl Who Belonged to Two Worlds The ocean had always known her secret. Long before Asandia knew who she truly was, the waves whispered her name. They called her the daughter of two worlds. The world beneath the endless blue waters and the world above the skies where humans lived, unaware that magic still existed. For eighteen years, Asandia had believed she was simply a girl with strange dreams and an unusual connection to the sea. She had grown up near the coastline of Eldoria, a quiet village surrounded by ancient forests and beautiful waters that glowed under the moonlight. But there was something different about her. The ocean listened to her. When she was sad, the waves became restless. When she was angry, storms appeared. When she cried, the water shimmered like it was crying with her. The villagers called it a blessing. But the elders knew the truth. It was a warning. Because the last time a child carried the power of both worlds, kingdoms fell. "Asandia!" The sound of her name pulled her away from the ocean. She turned and saw her best friend, Liora, running toward her through the sand. "You disappeared again," Liora complained, trying to catch her breath. "One day I'm going to tie you to a tree so you stop wandering into dangerous places." Asandia smiled softly. "You say that every time." "And one day I might actually do it." Asandia laughed, but the sound faded quickly as she looked back at the ocean. Something felt different tonight. The waves were moving strangely. Like they were trying to tell her something. "What is wrong?" Liora asked, noticing her expression. Asandia shook her head. "I don't know." That was the truth. For the past few nights, she had been having the same dream. A voice calling her from the darkness. A voice telling her: "The barrier is breaking." And every time she woke up, a strange symbol appeared on her wrist. A symbol she had never seen before. Far away, beyond the human lands, deep inside the hidden underwater kingdom of Neravia, the ancient guardians gathered. The ocean throne stood empty. Waiting. "The heir has awakened," one of the elders whispered. A heavy silence filled the room. "After all these years..." another elder said. "The daughter of the ocean has returned." The oldest guardian stepped forward, his eyes filled with fear. "Not just the daughter of the ocean." Everyone looked at him. "She carries human blood too." The room went silent. A forbidden truth. A child born from two worlds. A child who could either save them... Or destroy them. That same night, Asandia woke up to the sound of waves crashing outside her window. But she wasn't alone. Someone was standing on the beach. Watching her. A stranger. A human boy. And somehow, even from a distance... she felt like she already knew him. The stranger stood at the edge of the shore, his figure hidden beneath the darkness of the night. The moonlight touched his face for only a second, but it was enough for Asandia to see his eyes. They were unlike anything she had ever seen. Not because they were unusual. But because they looked familiar. A strange feeling moved through her chest, like her heart recognized him before her mind could understand. "Asandia..." Liora whispered beside her. "Who is that?" She didn't answer. The stranger took one step closer. The ocean immediately reacted. The calm waves suddenly rose, crashing against the rocks as if warning him to stop. Asandia felt the water calling inside her. Protecting her. "Don't come any closer," she said. Her voice sounded stronger than she expected. The boy stopped. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then he raised his hands slightly. "I'm not here to hurt you." Asandia narrowed her eyes. "Everyone says that before they do." A small smile appeared on his face. It was the first normal thing about him. "You're right." That response surprised her. Most people would have argued. But he simply accepted it. "My name is Effiom." The name felt strange. Yet somehow, it stayed in her mind. Effiom. "I don't know who you are," Asandia said, "but you shouldn't be here." His expression changed. Like he had been expecting those words. "I know." "Then why did you come?" For a few seconds, he looked toward the ocean. "The same reason you came here." Asandia frowned. "What do you mean?" Effiom looked back at her. "Because something is calling you." The wind suddenly became colder. Asandia felt a chill move through her body. Because he was right. The ocean had been calling her for years. But she had never told anyone. Not Liora. Not the villagers. No one. "How do you know that?" she asked quietly. Effiom didn't answer immediately. And that silence told her everything. He was hiding something. Asandia stepped closer. "Who sent you?" "No one." "Liar." The word came out quickly. Effiom looked surprised. Then he smiled slightly. "You can tell when someone is lying?" She froze. Because she had never thought about it. She could. Not always. But sometimes. Whenever someone spoke a falsehood, she felt a strange pull in her chest. Another gift she never understood. "Answer me," she demanded. Effiom's smile disappeared. "I came because I saw you." "Saw me where?" "In my dreams." The world seemed to stop. Asandia stared at him. "What?" "For months." His voice became softer. "I kept seeing the same girl standing in the ocean. I couldn't see her face. I didn't know her name. But I knew she was waiting for something." Asandia's breathing became uneven. Because she had the same dreams. Only hers were different. She always saw a boy. Standing in the distance. Calling her. The boy she never could reach. Until now. Before either of them could speak again, the ground beneath them shook. The ocean went silent. Too silent. Every creature in the forest disappeared. The birds stopped singing. Even the wind vanished. Liora grabbed Asandia's arm. "Something is wrong." Asandia already knew. A darkness spread across the water. Not a storm. Something else. Something alive. The mark on her wrist suddenly burned. She gasped and covered it. Effiom noticed. His expression changed immediately. "You have the mark." Asandia looked at him. "What mark?" But before he could answer, a voice echoed from the ocean. Deep. Ancient. And terrifying. "THE HEIRESS HAS AWAKENED." The waves rose higher than the trees. Liora stepped back in fear. Asandia couldn't move. Because she knew that voice. It was the voice from her dreams. The voice that had warned her. The barrier is breaking. The water split open. And something emerged. Something that had been trapped beneath the ocean for centuries. The ocean split open. For a moment, Asandia thought she was seeing things. The water rose into the sky, twisting like a giant wall of glass under the moonlight. The waves moved away from the shore, revealing the dark ocean floor beneath. Then something stepped out. Not human. Not a creature from any story she had ever heard. It was tall, covered in dark armor that seemed to be made from pieces of the ocean itself. Ancient symbols glowed across its body, and its eyes burned like two distant stars. Liora held onto Asandia’s arm. "Asandia... what is that?" Asandia couldn't answer. Because deep inside her, something recognized it. A memory that wasn't hers. A warning from a past she had never lived. Run. But her body refused to move. The creature looked directly at her. "The blood of the ocean," it said. Its voice shook the ground. "The child of two worlds." Effiom immediately stepped in front of Asandia. The action surprised her. He didn't even know her. Yet he was willing to stand between her and something terrifying. "Who are you?" Effiom demanded. The creature turned its attention toward him. "A human." The way it said the word carried disgust. "You do not belong here." Effiom's jaw tightened. "Neither do you." For the first time, the creature looked angry. The ocean around them began rising again. "Careful, boy." A dark wave formed behind it. "You carry the arrogance of your kind." Asandia stepped forward. "Stop." Both the creature and Effiom looked at her. She didn't know where the courage came from. Maybe it was fear. Maybe it was something else. But she refused to stand behind others anymore. "Why are you here?" she asked. The creature studied her. Like it was searching for someone else in her face. "To take you home." Asandia frowned. "Home?" "You were never meant to live among humans." The words hit harder than she expected. Because she had always felt different. But hearing it spoken aloud made it real. "I don't understand." The creature moved closer. "You were hidden from the kingdoms. Your mother sacrificed everything to keep you alive." Asandia froze. Her mother. The one subject no one ever spoke about. The woman who disappeared when Asandia was a baby. "What do you know about my mother?" The creature became silent. Then it said: "Everything." A thousand questions rushed through Asandia's mind. Who was her mother? Why had she been hidden? Why did the ocean respond to her? And why was this stranger, Effiom, somehow connected to all of it? She looked at him. He was staring at the creature with a strange expression. Like he knew more than he admitted. "You knew," she whispered. Effiom looked at her. "Asandia—" "You knew something." "I knew there was something unusual about you." "That isn't an answer." His silence confirmed her suspicion. The hurt she felt surprised her. She barely knew him. But somehow, his secrets felt like betrayal. "I trusted you." Effiom's face softened. "I know." "No. You don't." The ocean around them started shaking again. The creature lifted its hand. A powerful force moved through the air. Effiom grabbed Asandia's hand. "Move!" They jumped away just as the ground where they stood cracked open. Asandia looked at their hands. The moment they touched, something happened. A flash of light exploded between them. The creature stepped back. For the first time... It looked afraid. "No..." Its voice was barely a whisper. "The prophecy..." The light disappeared. Everyone stood frozen. "What prophecy?" Asandia asked. The creature stared at her. Then at Effiom. "The guardian and the heiress." The ocean began to roar. "Together, they will either save both worlds..." A pause. "Or destroy them."
