Chapter 6- King Darius

808 Words
The gathering continued on, pack members from every pack filled the valley. Some where quiet, some where curious, and others were just drunk. Sarah had mingled her way into the large group as I sat here beside my wife taking it all in. “Have you heard anything from Ronan?” I asked my wife. “He said he would probably be late getting here, he thought he had a solid lead on who’s been causing all of this.” The light in her eyes dim slightly and she lowers her head, “You shouldn’t have let him go alone with just his Beta. He may be a man now, but he hasn’t had the experience needed to do a job like this.” I look at my beautiful wife and see nothing but fear for our son. The stress of having him away was starting to run its course. I grab her hand, “He will be king soon, this may be dangerous but he is learning. The packs feel comfort when their prince alpha is combing the land trying to find out who is doing this.” My wife lets out a sigh and nods her head in agreement. I look out to the crowd and I find who I’m looking for. The big scary protector that was told to all of us to be the most fierce warrior, that could abolish any threat with the flick of her hand- playing with a group of small pups. I huffed. What did she think she was doing? They are already unsure about her due to her looks, what will they think now that she’s spending her time with children? She needs to be talking to the Alpha’s. “Sarah, what are you doing? Shouldn’t you be trying to get information from the Alpha’s?” I mind link her. She raises her head and meets my eyes, “You always were so arbitrary. Just because they are children doesn’t mean they don’t know anything. Small eyes and ears hear and see everything, especially when adults are too blind to notice.” She gives me a fake smile and a mental middle finger and goes back to what she was doing. My beta, Jeremiah, and his wife, Talia, come to take a seat beside us. “Are you sure we can trust this person? No one has seen or heard from her in years. Regardless, bedtime stories tend to be exaggerated.” Jeremiah said as he pulled out his chair. I look at his face, his black hair has now grayed and the lines on his face more prominent. Before I have a chance to answer him, a scream tears through the crowd and a solid white streak follows the sound. Chaos erupts. I yell for my guards to follow Sarah as the other alphas do the same. People are screaming, the air fills with the smell of smoke and the alarm bells begin ringing. A shrill, bone chilling noise fills the air. Everyone goes silent, all unaware of what to do or make of that noise. Julie looks at me, dear evident in her eyes. A large white wolf makes her way up the hill carrying someone on her back and something in her mouth. The massive crowd that was once hysteric parts silently to let her through. An unknown black substance dripping from her fur. She stops in front of me and drops what is in her mouth. It looked like a person. Their skin stained with the black sludge and pale. The woman on her back visibly pale and scared slides off and sits on the ground. “Darius, get me something to cover myself up.” She said in a tone that I hadn’t heard from her. A tone that left no room for questions, no room for argument. Julie catches on and takes off her robe without anyone saying anything and hands it to the wolf. Seconds later, Sarah was before us again. She turns around to address the crowd. “Your attacker walks and hunts at night. You know this. Yet your guards and people were not ready to fight or even run. Alpha’s this is your fault. The threat is real and after what I have witnessed even more so than originally thought. This young lady went to see her mate at the guard shack, where she was ambushed. Every alpha here has guards on the border line. How did this monster get through? Everyone go to your rooms and lock the doors. No one is to leave until day light. At that time any men or women who are willing and able to fight are to meet me at the training grounds. We have a lot of work to do. Alpha’s, you and I will be patrolling tonight. Dismissed”.
