REVELATION AND THREATS
"Mommy!"
Theo ran to hug Sophia who was staring at Adrian's back in terror, immediately, she hugged Theo close to her chest as if to protect her son from him. Adrian slowly turned and walked towards them, his eyes dead set on the boy who was in her arms.
"Sophia, who is this boy?"
Her lips trembled as she spoke, "My son"
He stared at her in shock, "You have a son?"
She nodded. He stared at the boy, he still could not see his face because she was hiding his face from him.
"I want to see him"
"No way. Leave Adrian"
Her tone made him more curious to see the boy.
"Sophia, I said, I want to see the boy" he gritted out.
"And I said no, I'm his mother so I have the right to refuse."
"Mommy, what is it? You are shaking?" Theo asked.
She quickly rushed to reassure him, "Oh, honey. Mommy is fine okay?"
Unfortunately for her, Theo's action of checking on his mother enabled Adrian to catch a glimpse of the little boy's face. He gasped in shock and stared with wide eyes at Sophia. Her breath caught in her chest, he had seen his face. Realizing it was no use hiding his face, she dropped him slowly to his feet. Young Theo turned and stared straight at Adrian in curiosity. Adrian was too shocked and felt like someone had hit him on the chest. He couldn't breathe properly, more like he had forgotten how to do so. The boy staring quietly at him was the same copy of his likeness when he was little. This had to be his son, no one could tell him otherwise. The boy had a head full of curly black hair and brown eyes, just like he had, just that his hair was straight now.
He crouched down to the boy's height and smiled at him, the little boy smiled at him in answer.
"Hey buddy, what is your name?".
"My name is Theo," he answered proudly.
"Well hello Theo, my name is Adrian" he smiled at him, the smile was so soft and gentle, a contrast to the glare he had been giving Ethan and Sophia.
"How old are you?"
"I'm five years old" he held out all his chubby fingers out to him making Adrian chuckle.
"I see, you are five years old, huh. Such a coincidence" he said the last sentence with his gaze directed at Sophia whose face was already white with terror and worry.
"Who are you?"
"Me? I'm your mother's friend. And your mommy and I need to have a little discussion. Is that alright with you?"
The boy nodded, he smiled at him and ruffled his hair affectionately. He stood up and gave her the signal to follow him.
"You don't have to follow him Sophia" Ethan told her. She shook her head at him.
"Unfortunately, this time I do Ethan. I'll be right back so please watch over Theo, alright?"
"Alright"
She left and followed Adrian, they went up to the roof of the company which allowed them to have ample privacy. With his back turned to her, he asked calmly.
"Tell me the truth. Is he mine?"
She didn't reply, she pretended to be busy checking her nails, he took a deep breath and silently counted to ten and asked again.
"Is he my son?"
She sighed in defeat, "And what if he is yours, what are you going to do?"
"So he is my son?"
She nodded, "Yes"
He turned away from her and took more deep breaths.
"Why did you hide such a thing from me? How could you do that?" He roared, making her flinch.
"I didn't intend to hide it from you" she screamed back, her voice raw with anger, "...as soon as I discovered I was pregnant, I called you but instead it was a woman who picked up. So I figured you wouldn't want something like that to disturb you. Besides you personally told me not to get pregnant for you. What was I supposed to do? I don't even know how I got pregnant, I thought I had been careful enough".
"You could have tried again and again, call me once again and try to reach out"
"I have my pride and dignity, Adrian. I won't go on a wild goose chase." She answered.
"But I never had any woman after you were gone" he said softly, Sophia gave him a look of disbelief.
"I don't believe you. It was clearly the voice of a woman"
He shook his head, "I don't know how to make you believe me but after you left, I have not been with another woman and I don't think I can" his voice held so much sincerity that Sophia thought she was hearing him wrongly.
"Then who was the woman?".
He shrugged, "I have no idea. You have to believe me"
"Whatever you say" she snorted.
"I want to be in his life, I want to be in my son's life"
"No way. We were happy without you, please just go and never come back"
His face turned stiff as he stared at her.
"Why do you think I will see my son and not want to be with him? I want to be in his life. He needs a father figure".
"Ethan is a good enough father figure for him"
"I will not let my son be claimed by another strange man. As long as I am alive and well, I will be a father to my son"
"No" tears ran down her face helplessly, "Please stay away from me and my son. He is mine."
Adrian shook his head at the sight of Sophia in tears, he understood her fear but there was no way he was going to let another man claim what was his, that included her.
"Sophia, I plan to get my son back, even if it means I have to fight for his custody" she gasped in horror, her mouth opened, her eyes wide. "...and I also plan to get you back. Just wait for me" he growled then giving her one last glance, he left her standing there alone.
