CHAPTER TWELVE: I Swore To Myself, I Will Never Let Him Play With Me Again
Is there a great deal with sitting at the table, on the very place where the little devils usually hangout? Was it an unusual thing for a girl to come this close to having a nonsense conversation with those overly dressed for school guys? Is it a sin to commit if a girl is currently sitting just beside the Satan as he smugly places his leg on his other leg and his arm’s just there almost touching her back?
Well actually, the answer is obviously, yes.
But that isn’t surprising if the girl is actually, yours truly. As much as I want to escape from this torture, I just can’t. Why? Well let’s say, I was just extremely unfortunate to be paired with him in a P.E dance performance.
I am scanning through the internet of possible songs to dance with, but the guy beside me doesn’t seem to care to help.
“Will you stop poking me and just help me pick a song?” I said irritatingly and glared at him.
“I have no interest in it, Blondie.” he said effortlessly but flashed me a side smirk.
I positioned myself so that I’m facing him and put my hands on my waist as a sign of getting angry.
“Our P.E grade depends on this one, Mister! It’s as much value as your freakin’ life!” I fumed.
He just smirked as an answer. Ugh! I swear to God, I really want to erase this guy on the face of the planet!
“It’s nowhere near the value of my life. Don’t compare it with some nonsense number on your transcript. You don’t know--” he stopped and averted his eyes off of me.
“I don’t know what?” I asked.
“Nothing. I have to go.” He said and stood up, started walking.
“Hey wait, douchepants! We haven’t picked a song yet!” I shouted out.
“Figure that on your own.” He said without looking back at me or even stopped from walking. I just sat there looking at the guy’s back. I don’t know, but that guy’s mood swing’s worst than a girl with a monthly period.
But looking back at his actions earlier, I might have gone too far at what I said. The grade isn’t really that of a major thing than life. But the way he said it, the way his eyes lost its dominant light, it’s something I can’t explain. It’s something mysterious.
I just don’t know him that much, I guess. That I am still surprised at his sudden moods swings.
Going back to the problem at hand, what song shall I pick? Dang this. It’s harder than I thought. But first, maybe I should consider the possibility that he might not perform this with me. Like what he said earlier, it doesn’t interest him. So why would I bother picking up a song if in the first place I don’t have a partner to dance it with?
Jeez! How unfortunate. Maybe I should go talk to Miss Danver about this, and have her pair me with someone else, after all, the number of guys in the class is greater than that of the girls.
I picked up my books from the table and stuffed it inside my bag.
“Uhm, excuse me.” said a very soft voice that I reckon, came from behind. I spun to see a black-haired girl with mean thick glasses. She’s wearing the school uniform with funky pigtail braids and a colorful knee-sock.
“Yes?” I answered after deliberately studying her features.
“H-Hi. I’m Meredith. I-I was hoping if you’ve seen Sam.” she said in a very soft voice. Like she’s so shy. What an introvert girl.
“Sam?” I asked with furrowed brows.
“Yes. Here.” She handed me a piece of paper and I took it.
It’s a picture of a cat. A white cat. I think it’s a persian cat.
“Sam’s a cat.” I muttered to myself. ”No, I haven’t seen it.” I said to her.
“Ohhh. She’s been missing since last night. It’s unusual that she’ll be out of my room. She loves my room and her scratch-post. I don’t know where to find her. I don’t even know if she has eaten or if she’s safe.” she said down-heartedly.
I kind of pity the girl. Looks like the cat’s very precious to her that she spent the day giving out papers and asking everyone who obviously doesn’t even care.
“I wish I can help you. But, I have problems of my own. If I see your cat, I’ll ring you. Is that okay?” I asked.
“Yes. Yes that is very okay! Thank you so much!” she said with so much joy. I can see it through the sparkles in her eyes.
I smiled at her. ”You’re welcome.”
“I better get going. I still have lots of flyers to distribute. But thank you so much. You’re the first one to actually be nice to me.” she smiled and turned her back on me.
I just looked at her and shook my head.
I looked at the paper on my hand, and the picture of a white cat named Sam.
Now why do I have a strange feeling about this?
And speaking of something missing, my necklace’s still M.I.A. I better ask the one in-charge of the girl’s locker room.
I hurriedly picked up my bag and went straight to the girl’s locker room.
I saw a woman sweeping the floor and so I assumed she’s the one in-charge. I walked towards her.
“Excuse me.” I said softly.
She spun to face me. I think she’s in her late 30’s. She’s a bit fat and has a wavy set of dark brown hair.
“Yes? Is there anything I can do for you, young lady?” she said courteously.
I must say, I was flattered at what she said. But back to the reason why I am here.
“I just want to ask if you’ve seen a necklace around here somewhere? It’s the one with a red circular pendant.” I stated.
For a couple of seconds, she remained quiet but what troubles me is the way she’s looking at me. It’s like I said something bad.
“Is there something wrong?” I asked.
She snapped. She took my hand and literally dragged me towards a room. She locked the door, and went straight to a table, opened the drawer and took a black box.
“Come. Come over here.” she gestured for me to come forward and so I did. I walked towards her slowly. I am starting to feel skeptical about this.
As soon as I reached the table she gestured for me to sit down on the vacant chair.
“Does your necklace look like this?” she asked as she opened the black box. There inside it, was a necklace. But with a blue circular pendant. I studied the features of the necklace.
“Yes. It looks exactly like that.” I answered.
“I thought so.” she heaved a heavy breath and close the box.
“Who owns that necklace?” I asked.
“Someone that was very important to me.” she sat on the chair opposite mine.
“What happened?” I asked.
“You have to promise me that you won’t tell anyone.” she said.
“Yes. I promise.” I answered.
“Okay. Someone obviously owned that blue necklace I showed you. She left it to me because she thought her life’s in danger and she doesn’t want to lose it or have someone else have it. And so she gave it to me. Right after the day she gave it to me, she went missing. Some say she was killed at the Mystic Woods. But I didn’t believe them. Not even when rumors started to spread that her backpack was found at the mouth of the feared woods...”
“Selene.” I muttered to myself.
“You know her?” She asked.
“Not really. But a friend told me about her. She used to be staying at the dormhouse where I am staying.” I answered in complete discomfort. Now why do the things that happened to Selene had a similarity to the things happening to me?
“In our tribe, legends say that nature has forged four icons of elements. These icons or things, possesses the power that can protect you, or kill you. It bears the four elements, the fire, water, wind and earth. It’s a long forgotten legend of our tribe, until the moment I saw this necklace. I said to myself, these necklaces must be concealed to those who wants it for evil purposes. Maybe that’s why Selene gave it to me.” She stated seriously.
“Oh my God.” I muttered to myself. Mom gave me that necklace. She said it was a family heirloom. And she said, I must never take it off. What if my Mom knows something about this, too? What if all this time, my Mom knows the answers to my questions and can help me with my current situation?
“I-I must find my necklace.” I said softly. I was still amused by these sudden information. It’s a lot to take in.
“That necklace, in the hands of evil, can be very dangerous.” she said.
“Did Selene ever told you about things that are happening to her before she went missing or something?” I asked.
She looked at me intently.
“Do you have bad dreams?” she asked.
“Y-Yes.” I answered.
“Do you feel unknown entities around you?” she asked again.
“Y-Yes. W-What do you know?” I stammered because of fear. I’m beginning to feel a certain fear towards whatever’s happening to me.
“You must be very careful, young lady. This school is covered with mystery that the organization has remained blind to it. A mystery far too great for the ordinary authorities to solve. You must trust no one. Everyone around here can inflict danger. Especially to you.”
“I understand.” I said.
“Now, go. You must never tell anyone about this.” she said. I just nodded and stood up. I went out of the room.
“Where could that necklace be?” I asked myself. Ugh! Things are starting to get worst.
I hurried to the main building. I am getting late for my next class. Ugh!
***
I’m currently in front of my laptop and I had a weird thought in mind to check the internet if there are results about the necklaces.
I scanned and scanned but I couldn’t find any. Maybe it was just an old story or maybe it wasn’t really true.
The door of my room opened. And Errine’s head popped out of it.
“Hey. Can I come inside?” she asked.
“Yeah, sure. Come in.” I said then closed my laptop.
She eased her way inside my room and closed the door.
“What are you doing?” she asked as she sat at the edge of my bed.
“Homework.” I lied. I made a promise not to tell anyone about what I know. And so I swear to remain silent as possible, even if it means lying to a friend.
“Is something wrong?” she asked. ”You look weary.” she noticed.
“I-It’s just... Things are a little bit out of control. Especially that douche.” I answered. Well, this one’s true. I’m exhausted from thinking about the dance performance.
“Hell?” she asked. I just nodded.
“What did he do this time?” she asked.
“Well... We were paired to a dance performance at P.E Class. I asked him to help me pick a song for the dance but he doesn’t seem to cooperate. I talked to the teacher but she said I have to convince him to perform the dance with me. I looked around for him earlier, but he’s nowhere to be found.” I explained. That’s true. I looked for him right after class but it seemed he was absent again.
“That’s Hell for you.” she said.
“Yeah.” I said.
“Oh, I almost forgot.” she took something from her pocket. She held my hand and I felt something cold.
“Kelly gave that to me. She said that belongs to you.” Errine said.
The necklace. My necklace. I can’t believe it. I thought I’ll lose it forever. Oh my gosh!
“Oh God! Thank you! Thank you! I thought I’ll never find this again!” I said in so much happiness, I hugged her so tight.
“Aw. Hey, Heavs. I-I can’t b-breathe.” she said roughly.
I let go of her. ”Sorry.”
“It seems that necklace is so important to you.” she said while rubbing her neck.
“Mom gave this to me. It’s a family heirloom.” I answered.
“That explains it.” she said an yawned. ”I probably be in bed. Goodnight, Heavs.” she said then walked out of my room.
I stared at the necklace in my palm. I took it and wore it. I was checking the red circular pendant when my phone beeped. I took it and read the message.
Come outside.
It was from Kohell. I peeked through my window and I saw him standing just outside.
I was skeptical about this. But maybe someone knocked some sense into him and has decided to talk about the dance performance.
I took my jacket and silently went outside.
“What do you want?” I asked him as soon as I am in front of him.
“You have to come with me.” he said very seriously.
“What? No!” I refused.
But he grab hold of my hand and dragged me.
“Let go of me!” I protested.
He didn’t answer and didn’t even budged. He continued dragging me. Until I found myself in the middle of the football field.
“What are we doing here, Treyson?” I asked him.
He didn’t answer, again. Instead he took his phone, scanned something, and a song played.
I can see the glow in his dark eyes. The moon’s light allows me witness a different sparkle from his eyes.
He reached for my waist and pulled me closer to him.
“W-What are you doing?” I asked him in a groggy voice.
When your legs don’t work like they used to before
And I can’t sweep you off of your feet
He just smirked at me and held my hand, he placed both of it on his shoulders. He inched closer to my ears and whispered... ”Dance with me.”
Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?
He began to move with the song. I was a little stiff for a moment, but it’s like I’m being drawn towards him. Before I know it, I am moving in sync with him.
And, darling, I will be loving you ‘til we’re 70
And, baby, my heart could still fall as hard at 23
His eyes never parted with mine. It’s an almost unknown feeling for me, but whenever I am this close to him, I couldn’t help but be weak and vulnerable. Like he’s taking all my life-force. The way his eyes’ fixated on me, is a feeling I actually like.
And I’m thinking ‘bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
I never thought I would want him this close to me. I never thought I’ll like this kind of feeling, the feeling of being weak, the feeling that my life depends on him. The feeling that I am willing to surrender myself to him.
Well, me—I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am
He inched closer to me. He travelled the small gap that separates me from my sanity. As his lips touched mine, I swear, I could feel my knees wobble. He cupped my face and deepened the kiss. I was being drawn to him that the taste of his lips is getting addictive. I responded fully on his kisses. Moans after moans escaped my mouth.
So honey now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
He pulled away from the kiss. He rested his forehead to mine as we panted from the kiss.
Place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are
“I wish you could remember. I wish you could.” he muttered to himself.
“What?” I asked.
He squeezed his eyes close and the familiar endless darkness of his eyes erased the gorgeous glow earlier. He looked at me intently.
“Forget that this ever happened. I just took you in here to keep me company. Forget about the kiss. Forget about the dance.” He said and let go of my face.
I blinked. Tears are forming in my eyes. Without second thoughts, I slapped him.
“How could you?!” I scorned. After all the things he’s done for tonight, after what he made me feel. He just wants me to forget everything? Tears began to pour out of my eyes.
“How could you make me feel this way, huh?! How can you make me want to forget all of this when everytime I am with you, it’s like I’m in a whole lot of different world?! I am not your play thing, Kohell! You can’t play with my emotions and feelings! I hate you! I really really hate you!” I said in one final blow and set off running. I left him stunned. He didn’t even run after me and apologize.
I just ran. As the tears fell on this cold night, I swore to myself, I will never let him play with me again!
