Chapter forty

1284 Words
Three weeks later..... Despite Moha's promise to be by her side and to face with her the difficult ordeal of not being able to give birth, Ndeye could not help but sink into a deep depression despite his efforts to keep his promise and the support of the family and the whole pack. She hardly spoke, ate, drank, laughed, and showed no taste for life, but that was not the most worrying thing. The most worrying thing was that she wasn't sleeping, or at least she couldn't sleep. Because every time she closed her eyes, she heard babies crying, wailing, and then hearing them laughing at her, cursing her to disappear. And the same scenario was repeated, with more and more cruelty and brutality each time for four days before Ndeye decided not to sleep anymore. This decision was disapproved of by all, Moha first, but she maintained it despite everything, and this led him to try to convince her to go and see a psychologist, but he was categorically refused. Ndeye did not want to be consulted by a psychologist, claiming to be well, although she was aware of the contrary deep inside. But she was not going to close her eyes, so she started to drink a lot of coffee in front of a helpless Moha, sleeping pills from the banalest to the most powerful without effect on her. And seventeen days later, she didn't look like anything, not even a zombie or a ghost with the monstrous dark circles under her eyes, the sudden and very big weight loss she had experienced, her almost total loss of taste for life, her hallucinations, ramblings, etc. And that's why only a few of the pack members could see her. This is why Fa'Bintou was alone with her in the living room in the absence of everyone else, discussing with her to reason with her and push her to take her life in hand. _ You know, Ndeye, it's been three weeks since you've set foot outside and it's not good to stay inside all the time, she began. _ .... _ Refusing to talk is not good either, but that's not the most important thing right now. The most important thing is your well-being and that's why I'd like you to come with me for a walk or tell me where you want to go so I can take you there. _ ..... _ You don't want to go anywhere? Really? _ ..... _ I'm sure there must be at least one place you want to go in your current state, a place where you are sure you can find that much needed inner peace, a place filled with good memories that can give you back your joy of living, a place that can remind you of who you are, the fighter that you are. _ Ru... Rukarara," Ndeye said at last, but her voice was barely audible. _ What are you saying? _ I am saying that... Knock! Knock! Knock! Ndeye stopped when she heard the knock at the door, and Fa'Bintou huffed and puffed before getting up to see who might be visiting them and possibly reproaching him or her for interrupting her discussion with Ndeye just as she had finally decided to speak after so many days of total silence. When she reached the door, she turned and gave Ndeye a threatening look: _ You and I aren't done yet and you can be sure that I'll make you talk willingly or by force once I'm done with this bastard. A threat that had an effect as it made Ndeye shudder and she had no doubt that her sister-in-law was serious about what she was saying. The latter, satisfied with the result, turned around and opened the door with the firm intention of putting their visitor in his place: _ What on earth possessed you to barge in at such a time and inter... Her sentence, unfortunately, remained unfinished, her eyes had met those of the famous visitor who, with his back to the door, had turned around on hearing her reproachful tone. There followed for both of them an acceleration of their heartbeats, the loss of the notion of time and space and especially the explosion in them of a palette of emotions which pushed them, after a long moment to look at each other lovingly, to approach each other until their faces were only a few centimeters from each other. Still reeling from the adrenaline, they moved even closer together until their lips brushed against each other before Fa'Bintou came to her senses. She immediately slapped her visitor, making him come to his senses and exclaim, holding his cheek: _ No, but you are sick, young woman! What possessed you to slap me? _ You, who? The first-class asshole who dared to interrupt a discussion of the utmost importance and then kiss me without my consent? asked Fa'Bintou. _ What? Me, an asshole? Who kissed you without your consent? Correction, dear: our lips just brushed, there was no kiss. _ Liar! _ Oh, yeah? (Narrowing the gap between them) But tell me, why does your body tremble so much at the thought of possible contact with mine? Why do you get lost in my eyes? Why is your heart racing? Why can't you control it and your mind anymore? _ I... _ Let's face it, we are... _ This can't be! It can't be! She immediately stepped back in shock, having already guessed the rest of his sentence before starting to close the door. Only, she didn't count on her "soul mate" who interfered by blocking the door with her right foot before entering the house as if nothing had happened, causing Fa'Bintou to laugh nervously: _ Welcome, your majesty. Make yourself at home! She said sarcastically, making an awkward curtsy. _ Thank you very much, but it's not "majesty" but rather Alpha," he replied in the same tone. _ Alpha? _ Yes. Ah, what a fool I am at times. (Slapping his forehead) Allow me to introduce myself, rebel half. Ibrahima Thioye, Alpha of Africa, at your service. _ Goddess! What is this nonsense? _ There's no question of delusion here, it's all about the truth. _ Ah! Yeah. How do I know that... She was cut off by Ndeye who had just come in, looking for her, having realized that she had gone on too long. _ Fa'Bin... The latter interrupted herself when she saw Ibra before coming to a halt at their level. Although surprised at her condition, Ibra ignored it and came to greet her with a slight bow. _ It's a pleasure to see you again after such a long time, supreme Luna. _ Pleased, Ndeye replied as if it cost her to speak. _ To what do we owe this visit? she asked. _ I had come to see Moha, but I think a beautiful creature who is my soul mate, by the way, has distracted me from the purpose of my visit. _ Me... you? You... Do you mean Fa'Bintou is your soul mate? _ Absolutely. _ Congratulations! _ Thank you very much. _ Come and settle in, Moha should be back soon, given the time. Ibra followed Ndeye into the living room where the three of them continued to talk, a discussion in which Ndeye took an active part, very happy for the new couple, much to the delight of Fa'Bintou, who finally thanked Ibra inwardly for having come. They were still in their bubble when all of a sudden they heard the sound of heels pounding on the floor before a voice echoed through the house. _ Finally back!!!
