Chapter 4

With a worried expression, Jaslene looked at Rayan, whose mouth was full of blood. Her face then turned grim as she spoke to Braylen, "Braylen, why did you hit Rayan?" Braylen looked at Jaslene calmly and replied, "I didn't do it." "Bullshit!" Rayan immediately retorted angrily, "Would I just fall on my own for no reason? You were bitter about the divorce and only getting five hundred thousand dollars as compensation, so you took it out on me by pushing me to vent your annoyance." Clara fully supported Rayan's words, gloating on the side. "Braylen, what a despicable person you are! Jaslene made the right decision to divorce you!" Jaslene frowned slightly, believing Rayan's story. After all, she couldn’t believe that Rayan could fall for no reason and end up hurt so badly.  She wondered, ‘Was it because Braylen was so angry about the divorce that he took it out on Rayan? If so, Braylen was indeed unworthy of staying by my side!’ Jaslene's expression turned cold. "If you had any grievances, you could have discussed them with me. Why did you take it out on Rayan?" Braylen looked at Jaslene's serious face and sneered, "I'll say it again. I didn't do anything to him." Jaslene was getting annoyed, her voice rising unconsciously. "You didn’t? Then why did Rayan just fall for no reason?" Jaslene pursed her lips tightly, feeling somehow impatient. Even though they were divorced, she still couldn't stand Braylen's behavior. "Braylen, can't you act like a decent man? If you're mad at me, you can just talk to me. Why did you take it out on my family?" Hearing Jaslene's unfair blame, Braylen felt deeply disappointed. Their marriage had lasted three years, but was there no trust between them? Braylen asked Jaslene, "You think it's more likely that I would hit Rayan but he would never just lie there and cause trouble, right?" "Then what is it?" Jaslene was impatient, thinking Braylen was just evading responsibility. "Braylen, be a man and own up to your actions. Even after the divorce, can you at least let me respect you once?" Rayan waved his phone and shouted, "If you don't admit it, I will call the police! Then you'll have a criminal record!" Wearing a cold face, Braylen pointed to the surveillance camera at the corner of the street. "Just call the police now. Let them check the surveillance footage." Rayan became nervous. He had indeed fallen on his own, and the surveillance footage would reveal the truth to everyone, so he couldn't let Jaslene check the footage! After quick thinking, he suddenly thought of a friend at the police station who could help him handle the surveillance. "Well, you’d better just keep bluffing!" Rayan then called his friend at the police station. Fortunately, his friend was patrolling nearby, and Rayan was overjoyed. Soon, a police car arrived. Rayan's friend got out, leaning against the car lazily. Just like Rayan, there were dark circles under his eyes. He looked more like a regular at underground venues than a police officer. Rayan hurriedly approached him and whispered in his ear, "Hey, you need to help me out. Just find some random charge to bring my useless ex-brother-in-law into the station." Rayan discreetly pointed at Braylen. "Over there, that's him. He just hit me, but the surveillance footage isn't in my favor. You know what I mean." Rayan patted his shoulder. "Ethan, trust me, there will be plenty in it for you!" Ethan Giles gave Rayan an "OK" gesture and took out his baton, swaggering toward Braylen. He shouted at Braylen, "I’m the police! Hands up!" Braylen glanced coldly at Ethan. His superior physical condition allowed him to hear Rayan's whispered conversation with Ethan from a distance. He couldn't believe that his ex-brother-in-law, whom he had protected for three years, could be so malicious. Braylen sneered and put his hands in his pockets. He was taller than Ethan, so it seemed like he was the one interrogating. "What crime do you think I have committed?" Ethan took out handcuffs, ready to cuff Braylen. "I suspect you of attempting to murder Rayan! Come to the police station with me!" Braylen was pissed off, thinking that this guy couldn't even come up with a plausible charge. After all, it was such a ridiculous charge! Braylen shook off Ethan’s hand. “Get lost!” Ethan was infuriated by Braylen's blatant disregard for his authority. He raised the handcuffs, ready to catch him by force. Right at that moment, the deep roar of an engine approached suddenly from the distance, catching everyone's attention. A Porsche Panamera roared up, and soon, it came to a sudden stop in front of Braylen. Then the car door opened. In a pair of red high heels, a stunning woman with long and elegant legs stepped out from the driver’s seat. She was dressed in a fiery red dress that shimmered in the sunlight, hugging her curves perfectly. Her soft curls were spreading over her shoulders, and her delicate chin was slightly raised, exuding a commanding and aloof aura. “She’s so gorgeous!” Rayan stared at the unfamiliar woman with his eyes lit up, momentarily forgetting the pain in his mouth. The woman scanned the crowd before she looked at Braylen. She pulled down her sunglasses slightly and asked, “Mr. Harper?” “It’s me,” Braylen responded, feeling puzzled. “And you are?” Hearing Braylen’s response, the woman smiled coldly, put her sunglasses back on, and ordered, “There’s no time to explain. Get in the car. We’ll talk on the way.” After the words, she grabbed Braylen’s arm and pulled him into the car. Soon, the Porsche sped off, disappearing within seconds. The entire process lasted no more than five seconds. The woman’s commanding presence left Braylen bewildered, and Jaslene, along with Rayan and Clara, were all dumbfounded. “What just happened?” Rayan was the first to react. “Did Braylen leave with that gorgeous woman? And she drove a Porsche Panamera! Why would such an outstanding woman be interested in Braylen?” Clara was seething with hatred. That woman not only looked charming but also exuded an air of superiority that overshadowed Jaslene. That was such a humiliation for them. “Braylen is a bastard!” Clara spat, “He just got divorced but already had a woman by his side!” For the sake of Jaslene’s pride, Clara rolled her eyes at Rayan and said with annoyance, “Don’t be fooled. That woman must be someone Braylen paid to act the part. That luxury car is probably rented. He just wants to humiliate Jaslene!” Jaslene was tired of their wild speculations and soon left after telling them that she had to go back to the office. Rayan was unwilling to accept the fact that Braylen was taken away by a wealthy beauty, so he approached his friend Ethan and said, “Buddy, he took five hundred thousand dollars from Jaslene for the divorce, but I couldn’t get him to hand out the money. If you can help me get it, I’ll give you one hundred thousand dollars!” Ethan licked his lips, his eyes full of greed. “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. The next time I’m on patrol and run into him, I won’t let him get away! I’ll make sure the charges stick, so he won’t get out of prison for the next ten years!”
