Summer
I slowly took a step back, my heart pounding hard against my chest, this didn’t make any sense. Either I was in a completely different world or I had somehow woken up inside another person’s body. But that was impossible, right? Things like that only happened in movies and crazy stories.
“This can’t be real…” I whispered under my breath. My eyes drifted back to the mirror. I leaned closer, studying the face staring back at me. It was unfamiliar, yet something about it tugged at my memory.
I frowned, trying to remember where I had seen her before. Then it hit me, my eyes widened in shock. “Yes…!” I gasped softly.
I knew this face, she was popular, a stripper. She worked in a club and also posted dance videos online, she had gone viral just last year.
My stomach dropped. “How did I end up in her body?” I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper.
A sudden loud knock on the door made me flinch, “Elena, are you okay?” I froze.
I hesitated for a moment before forcing my legs to move. Slowly, I walked to the door and opened it, the moment I stepped out, everyone outside looked relieved.
I didn’t know what to say, so I turned away from them and walked back to the bed, my head spinning. Everything felt unreal, like I was standing on the edge of losing my mind.
The red-haired woman from earlier quickly moved closer to me. “Elena, it’s me Amelia,” she said gently. “Your friend, do you not recognize me?”
I said nothing, I just stared at her. Her face was filled with worry, but I couldn’t respond. Amelia turned slightly and leaned toward the doctor. “Wait, did you tell her about the miscarriage?” she asked in a low voice.
My breath caught, a Miscarriage? My hands instinctively flew to my stomach, this body had been pregnant?
How did we switch soul, what happened to my actual body? Did her soul wake up in my body too? If she really ended up in my body, She was probably already buried. Fiona had been so eager to get rid of me, she wouldn’t have wasted any time.
“I haven’t told her about the baby yet,” the doctor replied quietly. Even though he was whispering, I could still hear him clearly.
After a while, the doctor stepped closer and began checking me—my pulse, my eyes, asking simple questions. Amelia stayed by my side the entire time, finally the doctor straightened up and glanced at her.
“Don’t overwhelm her with too many questions,” he said calmly. “She needs to rest.” He said before he walked out of the room.
She moved closer to me almost immediately, like she had been waiting for the chance. “See, Elena…” she began, her voice softer now. “I’m really sorry for throwing you out of my apartment.”
I just watched her. “It wasn’t just because it was crowded,” she continued quickly, her hands fidgeting. “I was scared, you always have trouble following you around, and I didn’t want to get dragged into it.”
I still didn’t respond.
She sighed and rubbed the back of her neck. “The real problem now is, where are you going to stay after you’re discharged from the hospital?”
So Elena didn’t even have a place to live, great. I swallowed before asking, “What about my apartment?”
Amelia hesitated, her eyes flickering away from mine. “You got kicked out,” she admitted. “But some of your things are still at my place.”
This was unbelievable, out of all the people in the world, I ended up in the body of a ridiculously attractive stripper who was broke, homeless, and clearly surrounded by trouble.
I almost laughed. Why does my life always find a way to be miserable? Even after everything, now I had to start over again. In a world that clearly had no intention of being kind to me.
“Listen,” Amelia said suddenly, snapping me out of my thoughts. I looked at her. “I think the guy who hit you with his car is seriously loaded,” she said, glancing around the hospital room. “Just look at this ward, this isn’t cheap.”
I followed her gaze, she wasn’t wrong. “You could get money from him,” she continued, lowering her voice like she was sharing a brilliant secret. “We can say you lost something valuable during the accident. Like jewelry or something expensive. Then we collect money from him and we can use it to get a better place.”
I blinked at her slowly. “I don’t think I can swindle anyone,” I said, choosing my words carefully. For a second, she stared at me then she burst into loud laughter. “Look at you acting all innocent!” she said, wiping at the corner of her eye. “Have you forgotten who you are?”
I frowned slightly. “You practically have a degree in scamming people,” she added. “The Marcini brothers are still looking for you, remember? After you swindled them.”
My lips parted, but no words came out, so this body didn’t just come with beauty and problems, it came with enemies too. Before I could even respond, the door suddenly opened.
The doctor stepped in, clearing his throat politely. “Sorry to interrupt,” he said. “The man who hit you with his car is here. Would you like me to let him in?”
I didn’t even get the chance to answer. “Of course,” Amelia said quickly, almost too eagerly. “Let him in.”
Honestly, I wasn’t ready to see anyone, my mind was already a mess, and all I wanted was time to figure out what my next move would be.
The doctor stepped aside and opened the door wider, a man walked in. The moment my eyes landed on him, my breath caught.
The moon goddess sure have a great sense of humor.,
