A Dream is A Wish your Heart makes The purple lizard had silver eyes and was blinking at me as if I was the one who had disturbed its sleep. I heard the soft wind chime again and I swear I heard the lizard, the freaking purple lizard say “Good Morrow” in a soft feminine voice. OK, either I am having the world’s most crazy dream or I am hallucinating things after ingesting some drugs. “What is the matter, Blessed Mother? Ok. Definitely drugs. Maybe there was a fire in the library and I inhaled fumes and this was the result. “Why are you pinching yourself, Blessed Mother?" And now the purple talking lizard is creeping out of the cauldron. Okay, seeing as I still haven’t woken up after all this pinching and I can feel the pain, so it’s not a dream or should I say not just a nightmare. I shut my eyes and take deep breaths and I can smell the burnt wood and is that lavender and sage? Wait, how do I know what sage smells like? OK Kynleigh, this is more than enough for today... I feel some cold air on the side of my face and feel a weight on my left shoulder. I open my eyes and yup, the purple talking lizard is on my freaking shoulder, which is covered with some velvety material. It’s sitting on a shoulder pad (didn’t that die in the 80s) of my green bellowing gown. What the hell am I wearing? I see my reflection in the lizard’s silver eyes. Is that me: a tan curvy young woman with black purple hair .. Okay. I tell myself “Wake up Kyn” and I hear a gravelly sultry voice that is definitely not my own…. I am engulfed in darkness as I faint to the golden floor. * * * I hear the wind chimes again and maybe the library staff are here to wake me up from my crazy nightmare. I open my eyes and nope, now there’s a buff young man with the purple talking lizard and I have officially lost it. The young man appeared tanned with black purple hair and hazel eyes. He frowns at me and continues talking to the lizard. I cannot hear what they are saying, but they definitely do not seem happy. I am back to lying on the cushiony cloud like bed and pillow. And before I can lift my head and get out of bed, the man walks toward the bed and comes to hold my hand, which is just as tanned as his. “Aanya, I see you have awoken. How do you feel?” How do I answer that? “I think.. I’m okay” I mumble, but I startle again at the gravelly sultry voice I hear; it is definitely not my own. He looks deep in my eyes and he is quite cute when he is frowning. “What is okay? Why are you speaking so strangely?” I do not know what to say to that and before I can ask him why he’s talking “strangely” and who the hell he is, the soft feminine voiced lizard jumps onto the side of my pillow. “It appears that the spell did not work as we speculated. This is not the Blessed Mother.” Yah think, Sherlock? What gave it away? Wait, spell as in magic? Maybe I am reading one of the books in this part of the library. I sit up suddenly and look at my palms and all I see a light. Nope, no book here. Just a magical glow. “But this creature does appear to have the same powers as the Blessed Mother”. Did the purple lizard creepy thing just call ME a creature? And now it put its dry scaly right limb on my hand and before I can scream or push it away, I feel a warmth all over my body and I fall back onto the soft bed. Okay, I guess it’s back to being drugged? “Please listen carefully, You who are now in the Blessed Mother’s Divine Body. It is important that you do not get distressed as that will cause devastation to you and those around you.” I want to answer but I am still enclosed in this gooey warmth and my mouth feels stuck so I just nod. “The Blessed Mother Aanya procured a spell from a renowned merchant scholar that was supposed to relieve the famine in this land. It was purported to give her the power to grow new crop without water. We were deceived and now you have taken the place of the Blessed Mother. The Gods only know where she is and if she is okay.” Now the purple lizard was looking agitated and all I wanted to do was soothe it. “It is important we keep you safe until we determine the exact nature of the spell and if it is reversible. The enemies are many and we cannot let them learn of this unfortunate event or you shall not live another day”. I c****d an eyebrow as if to ask what enemies and surprisingly, the lizard seemed to get it. “The Blessed Mother is one of the important healers of this land and there are many who wish her ill. Your brother and I will help you learn a few things so you can protect yourself.” So this cute purple-haired man was my brother. That made sense, as I was not attracted to him but did feel what could only be described as love for him. As if realizing I was thinking about his relationship with me, the man spoke up. “I am called Rakshan and this is Tulsi” He pointed at the purple lizard whose scaly paw was on my pillow but not touching me anymore. “And I’m Kynleigh. Though I guess I am supposed to be Aanya” I spoke up. Rakshan’s eyes looked sad but he nodded. “I think it may be best for us to say we are going on a pilgrimage to the Pavitra Temple. We can slowly show Aanya….” I lifted one eyebrow again “Umm.. this lady... the ways to protect herself” I guess that’s better than being called a creature. The purple lizard.. OK, I guess I can call her Tulsi nodded in agreement. “We can tell everyone it’s to pray for the famine”.
