Chapter 2- THE COURTESAN p2

"There is unlawful aggression when there is peril to one's life or person. There must be actual and imminent physical force or actual use of a weapon. In a Supreme Court case, a man was acquitted due to self-defense. But, Miss Villaverde.. The man that your boyfriend killed is a very rich young man and came from a wealthy clan. Their family is so powerful, they can terribly reverse the incident in just a snap of their fingers, just to justify their son's death. I know that. Because one of my colleagues' client encountered their clan before. And they easily reversed the story in just one click with the use of money."

Anna felt like crying. She even felt her head spinning with everything she just heard from Ryan's lawyer. "Oh God.." Were all she murmured softly and massaged her forehead confusingly. Everything was heavy she's afraid she could not take it. But she knows she has to.

"Anna.. Relax."

She closed her eyes tightly and sighed when she heard Mela called out her name beside her. Then she felt the latter's hand gently tapping her shoulder, comforting her. So she sighed deeply again. All thanks to Mela for helping her find a lawyer that fast. Mela's previous customer, when the latter was still a courtesan, has so many connections with lawyers and other businessmen. So it was Mela who contacted that person earlier after Ryan got arrested and now she's already inside that lawyer's office with Mela, listening to every word the lawyer just said, while she feels like something is barricading her throat at that moment.

"Are you alright, Miss Villaverde?"

She let out a deep breath and with a heavy heart she said, "Y-Yes, I am. So what.." She sighed deeply again and continued, "What am I gonna do then for Ryan to win this case against them in every hearing?"

The lawyer looked at her seriously. "In order for Ryan to win this case, you have to prepare an extremely huge amount of money against them in every hearing, Miss Villaverde."

She gulped. "H-How much then?"

"Hundreds of thousands every hearing, Miss Villaverde."

"Oh my God.." She directly covered her mouth and stopped the tears trying to escape from her eyes. "H-Hundreds of.. Thousands?"

The lawyer nodded. "Yes, Miss Villaverde. So in all hearings, you have to prepare at least a million or even millions for this one. For I know you will undergo several hearings against them just to clear out Mr. Delos Reyes' name."

"Oh God.. Millions?" She asked while holding her chest in so much disbelief. Then suddenly, her breathing became heavy until she couldn't take it anymore. Tears abruptly burst out from her eyes in deep, painful and mixed emotions. Because she didn't even know where to get the hundreds of thousands cash every hearing, how much more the millions right? Where is she going to get such an extremely huge amount of money then? How? Her salary of that food chain she was working in was just a penny compared to the amount she should prepare for Ryan's freedom. It's too huge. It's such.. A heavy to carry. But she knows deep in her heart she must do everything to get that amount of money she needs. Even if it matters life or death. She will do everything. For Ryan. Because she loves him so much. And she believes that he's badly innocent. So she will do everything.. To set him free.

Mela and her went out of that lawyers office to go to the prison where Ryan was jailed at that moment. She wanted to talk to him. She wanted to make him feel that he's worth all her efforts. That she will never leave him despite everything.

"Babe!"

Anna choked back her tears as she heard Ryan calling out her name while holding the bars of the prison in front of him. His face was so weary and his eyes were even puffy, obviously had just finished crying. And it made her want to cry in front of her boyfriend too out of sympathy.. And out of love.

"Babe.." She responded in a voice almost close to whisper as she and Mela reached him there. Her hands were even cold as she glued her hands with his that was still holding the cold, metallic jail bars. Then she gulped when she suddenly saw Ryan sobbed.

"Please, babe.. I'm innocent. So please.. Do everything to set me free.. Please.." He even held her hands and kissed it.

She gulped again while crying and sobbing in sympathy too. Then she said, "Y-Yes. I will do everything to set you free from here, babe. I will do everything to set you free.."

"Well you better."

She gasped and flinched when she suddenly heard that strict and powerful voice of a woman behind her. With a loud and fast beating of her heart, she slowly turned around and abruptly held her chest as she saw the owner of that voice looking highly sophisticated with her utterly elegant clothes and behind her was an obvious high and powerful man with a strong personality. The two were obviously in their late forties, but still looked so dangerous that made her heaved out a deep breath in nervousness again. But she had to act strong for Ryan, so she remained on her ground.

"You should really do everything to win this case against us. Because we will do everything also.. To make that boy rot in jail. He killed our son. So we will do everything.. To make him suffer forever. See you in the court then.. By Tuesday morning next week."

She gulped, speechless after hearing that. Until she saw the two walking out of there and gone from her sight, she was still utterly speechless. Because did she hear it right? That woman will start the hearing effectively on Tuesday morning? 'God.. What am I gonna do?' She whispered in her thoughts and looked at Mela helplessly. Then she closed her eyes when she heard Ryan sobbing silently again.

"Uhm, Anna.. Can we talk?"

She heard Mela call out her name and felt the latter's hand hold her pulse then guided her a far away from Ryan. Then in a low timber of her release, Mela said, "Anna.. There's only one way that I see for you to have money to fight for Ryan's case."

Her heart pumped fast against her chest and replied softly, "W-What then?"

"Accept my offer."

She gulped and looked away.

"Anna.. Anna, look. Think of it this way. You accept my offer, then poof! You'll get a million dollars from this very rich client of yours right away. Yes, he's going to use you and your body, but you're going to use his money also, to set Ryan free."

She suddenly felt like suffocating. "B-But why me, Mela?"

"Because, Anna.. You're everything that Mr. Las Conia needs for a courtesan. You exceptionally fit his high standards, Anna. So accept my offer now because he's gonna need you by tomorrow right away. And you're gonna need his money by Tuesday."

She gulped so hard and held her body while stopping her tears to fall from her eyes. Then after a few minutes of thinking so deeply about her decision, she finally made up her mind.

She sighed. "Okay, Mela. Take me to that man now."
