Chapter three: strawberries and vanilla

624 Words
Ezekiel POV We get to the school. As soon as I got out of the truck smelled hints of the most wonderful smell that ever entered my nose. It smells of fresh strawberries and vanilla. My wolf stirs within me. -Mate! says my wolf, Joel. Oh great, I think to myself, now how will I get through this parent-teacher conference knowing my Mate is somewhere nearby. I am immediately torn between the urge to track her down and continuing my duty of reporting my brothers’ progress to my dad. -Let’s go find her! -no we can’t, we must finish this first. I felt the urge to find her surge through me. After we are done here we will go, but only after we are done with David’s parent-teacher conference. Besides, we can’t be outclassed by my little brother in self-control.- I Have Control!... it’s just we waited so long. My wolf wines. -I know. It's been 12 years since I could sense our mate. As I mentioned briefly at the age of 16 our wolves fully emerge. It is then we can fully use our wolf abilities, shift and sense our mate. Since I had yet to find her it became apparent that my mate was not a current member of my pack.-I'm 28 now so trust me I know it's been a long time. “Are you arguing with your wolf?'' my brother asks in a quiet voice in case anyone is nearby. He must have noticed the change in my demeanor and seen my focused gaze. As wolves, we have the ability to mindlink. Through this link we can communicate to anyone in the pack but when it happens our eyes tend to glaze over. Since we practice being in contact with humans often we have trained ourselves to close our eyes when we link. However, when we communicate with our wolf within us our eyes do not glaze over rather it looks like we are just focusing. His question ends my inner conversation. “Yeah sorry, let’s go in. Go ahead and show me to your classroom and let’s have this conference with your teacher. I suddenly have another matter to attend to as soon as we are done.” David gives me a confused look but says, “okay, it’s this way. Follow me.” I'm pleasantly surprised when the smell gets strong as we draw closer to my little brother's classroom. -maybe she is here as a neighboring pack's representative like me- she could be one of the humans here. -as long as she's not married to any of these male parents or teachers we should be fine. Having a human as a mate is not as uncommon in Alaska as it is in other areas of the world. Sadly though too often they are already involved with someone else. I have to admit it's a disturbing thought to imagine, finding your mate only to realize they are a human in a relationship of some kind or married to another human. Since humans do not naturally have a sense that directs them to their one true soulmate, many go through life repeating trial and error relationships. So having a human mate is a very hard thing to deal with. I would not hate having a human mate but it is a scary thought to think they can be involved with someone else already. I have never been with anyone else because I have been waiting to find my one true mate. I'd hate to have waited so long for someone that may not even consider me because their heart belongs to someone else. I can only hope if she is human that she is not in a relationship already.
