Chapter Five: Persuading Ava

1492 Words
Ava paused for a minute, kept mute and stared at her mom. "Why are you staring like that or have you been hypnotized?" Mrs Miller asked. "You know what, mom, sometimes I wish dad were here. He might have been in my side perhaps." Ava said. Mrs Miller got very angry. "Don't you ever make mention of your dad in this house, you hear me? You should be grateful I'm still here for you and your brother unlike that miscreant you call a dad. Just look around you. You and Jake aren't lacking anything yet you still wish he was around. You're such an ingrate." Mrs Miller said, puffing with anger. Then she calmed a little and said, "You know what, ava, just go prepare yourself. We leave at ten. I'll go warm up the car." Ava kept in staring." Ava, I'm not kidding." Mrs Miller said. Ava sighed and said, "Mom, I know how much you hate the mention of dad's name in this house and I'm sorry, okay? Look, I'll go to the Mini Mart with you but I can't go there with an angry mom." Then ava left to prepare. "What's with my daughter?" Mrs Miller asked herself. When ava got to her room, she was distracted by the numerous notification tone her phone made. "Who could that be? "Ava asked herself and was forced to check. "Oh my goodness, it's Della. This girl is really crazy. What's she doing online during lessons?" Ava said. "Hey, Ava. Why aren't in school on your second day?" Della's message read. "A lot happened, della. That's why I couldn't make it to school today. Don't worry about me. Nothing bad happened actually. I will definitely be in school tomorrow. Expect me." Ava replied the message. "Girl, you need to participate in the school's All Stars Writers Competition. The competition is what's trending now in school." Della's message read. "No, no, Della. I've told you. Yes, I would love to participate in such a competition but you see, I just got there. I can't just hop in and boom, start going for competitions." Ava's message read. "Come on, Ava. The competition is your thing. I know you love to write articles and stuff. You really stand a chance of winning this competition and you see, Grayson High has never won the All Stars Writers Competition before." Della's message read. "I don't remember telling you how much I love writing articles and stuff. Lol" Ava's message read. "Your energy tells it, girl. Just go for it already." Della's message read. "You won't get me, Della. Earning a scholarship in Grayson High is already enough for me. Do you know how many people out there that were aspiring to attend Grayson High yet I was the one that was accepted? I felt like I have crushed their dreams of attending Grayson and now that I am finally in Grayson High, what's my next move? Steal everyone's awards, trophies and spotlights? No way, della. There's no way I'm gonna participate in that competition, della. Thank you for informing but I'm not interested. " Ava's message read. "Alright, I will discard this competition this competition topic if it really irritates you." Della's message read. "Great. Aren't you supposed to be in class right now? Hope I'm not distracting you over there." Ava's message read. "No, Ava. You aren't. Actually, I'm free right now that's why I'm on my phone." Della's message read. "Oh, that's cool." Ava's message read. "Ava, i've got news." Della's message read. "Really, tell me."Ava's message read. "Ava, the Penta-Gigantus are back with their madness. Just like yesterday's recess incident, those guys bullied oliver for something. In guessing it was a note book but I'm not really sure." Della's message read. "You are Oliver's friend. You are meant to know what they bullied from him plus, you too are close." Ava's message read. "Oliver's vibe has been really toxic and it wall started after school yesterday. I was only advising him after we brought you the topic concerning the cafeteria incident. Remember, he called aiden sir out of fear." Della's message read. "Yeah, it was very weird." Ava's message read. "Then I scolded him fie that and then, he got angry with me. Ever since then, he hasn't been cool with me and has been giving toxic vibes. Oliver has never been like this before. He is just getting weird." Della's message read. "Perhaps, you scolded him in a way he found offensive." Ava's message read. "Ava, we'll chat later, okay? Biology class is about to start." Della's message read. "Oh no, I haven't prepared yet. Mom's gonna be really mad at me." Ava said after the chat with Della, realizing how long it took her. Then she grabbed what she thought was suitable outdoors and wore it. Then she quickly ran downstairs. She noticed everywhere was quiet like she was the only one in the house. "Mom?" Ava called. There was no response. She decided to be check the garage to be sure her mom had gone. She was very glad that her mom's car wasn't parked in the garage. "Thank God. Oh, I need to do some chores to make mom extra happy with me.The last thing I want is to offend her." She said within herself. When Ava got in, something caught her attention. The name of her school was mentioned in television. "Grayson High? What's happening there? " Ava asked herself. "The Elites school, Grayson High School in Florida has been chosen to host the year's All Stars Writers Competition, a competition for into the best writers in The States . Mr Martins Vans, Proprietor of the school announces the theme of this year's All Stars Writers Competition. He says ,"Not Arrows but Pens hitting the Bullseye." The News Anchor announced. Immediately, ava was pissed off and switched off the television. "This competition is really haunting me. Yes, I really want to do this but I just can't. I do hope I won't be whiny tomorrow whenever I hear anything about the competition. It will make me look pretty weird." Ava soliloquized. * * * "Here you go, ava." Della said, handing Ava's book back to her. "Thanks, Della. You won't believe it was because of this book I skipped school yesterday." Ava said. Della laughed and said, "How's that possible?" Ava told della everything that happened on her way to school the previous day and how she ended up not going to school anymore. Della bursted into laughter after Ava had narrated the entire story. "That's so funny, ava. Anyways, you're here now. Sophia and Ocean were asking after you yesterday a lot." Della said. "Awwn. They missed me." Ava said, smiling. "Of course." Della said. "Speaking of those guys, I have seen them too." Della continued. "How are things with you and Oliver? Have you too made up yet?" Ava asked. Then Oluver interrupted. "Hey Ava. What happened yesterday? Why did you skip school?" He asked. "Hi, Oliver. Something came up and I had no choice but to skip school but anyways, I'm here again. Thank God." Ava replied. "Alright, then. I'll see you later." Oliver said and left. "Okay, now I'm convinced that you two are definitely having issues." Ava said. "You see, he didn't even notice me. He didn't even acknowledge me, nothing." Della complained. "Well, to be fair to oliver, you didn't acknowledge him either." Ava said. "Well, he deserved it." Della said. "Come in, Della. You too should stop that already. Silent treatment won't treat anything. It will only germinate grudges that will lead to hatred and intense malice." Ava advised. "You see, ava, I admire your choice of words when advising someone. It's very amiable." Della said "Well, you're welcome." Ava said, smiling. "...but trust me, ava, it will be really hard for me to just walk up to oliver and apologize, especially when he was the one at fault." Della said. "Well, u can't sit and watch you and oliver fight. That's not cool." Ava said. Then a girl walked up to Della and Ava. "Hi, Della." The girl said. "Hey, Erica, how're you doing. " Della greeted. After exchanging pleasantries, Erica brought up a topic. "I heard Mr Martins Vans has announced this year's theme for the All Stars Writers Competition." Erica said. "Oh not again." Ava mumbled. "What's that, Ava? You said something." Della asked. "Yeah. I heard it on the news. Yesterday at home. Girl, I was shocked to hear the name of our school mentioned on television." Ava replied. "Yeah, it's normal. This is Grayson High." Erica said. "So the news has been aired?" Della asked. "Yes, silly. Okay, I'll be leaving now. Bye." Erica said and left. "Della, I also have to head off to class. Lessons are about to start." Ava said. "Alright, I'll see you during recess." Della said and they both parted ways.
