Ten Years Later "Ava! You really need to get up from that bed. This is the first day of resumption to a new school. Aren't you excited?" Mrs Miller said as she opened the curtains of her daughter's room to let the sunlight in. "Good Morning, mom." Ava said as she stretched after waking up from sleep . "Morning, ava. Do hurry and freshen up else you will be late for school and remember, it's your first day at Grayson High, the school for the elites. Many kids have been dreaming to study there. Please, lateness to school on your first day is a really bad sign........." "Here you go again, Mom." Ava cut in. "I'm not kidding, Ava. Just hurry already. Your breakfast will be served in a few minutes." Mrs Miller said . "I'm not hungry." Ava informed. "Okay, that's not a problem. I will have it packed so you can have them in school when your appetite comes knocking." Mrs Miller said, smiling. Ava smiled back and said, "You are in a great mood today, mom." "Of course, why wouldn't I be? You are about to attend a prestigious high school. You know how much I admired Grayson High and it's students. They are full of sophistication, Ava!. I'm so glad you will be among them. I'm so proud, darling." Mrs Miller responded with so much happiness. "Oh Mother. You are something else. You know that? You literally worship the ground that these Grayson High students walk on because what's all these hype?" Ava said jokingly and her mother laughed. Mrs Miller sighed heavily and said, "Oh dear, we should quit the chit chat already. You have to get prepared for school." "Yeah, right." Ava said. Mrs Miller left the room immediately. Ava sighed heavily, then prayed briefly and began preparing for school. Then there was a knock on the door. "Who's there?" Ava asked. "It's Jake" Jake, her younger brother replied. "Oh, Jake, you can come in. The door is not locked." Ava said and Jake obeyed. "Wow! You look very pretty on this uniform, ava" Jake complimented. "Oh my, Thank you, Jake." Ava said. "You see, it's a good thing you knocked before entering the room. I forgot to lock the door." Ava continued. "It wouldn't be a problem if I did actually 'cause you are already dressed up." Jake said, smiling. "Yeah right." Ava said. "What about you, aren't you going to school today, you aren't dressed yet." Ava continued. "Ava, I'm skipping school today. I feel unusual."Jake replied. "Are you sick?" Ava asked, sounding really concerned. "I think so but I will be fine after taking some pills."Jake said. "Well, get well soon." Ava said. "I'm so gonna tell all my friends at school tomorrow that my sister is attending Grayson High. That will earn me some respect." Jake said. "Jake, please don't do that. " Ava said, smiling. After some time, Mrs Miller called ava from a distance. "I'll be there in a minute, Mom." Ava replied. "You better hurry, ava. You will be late to school and it's your first day. "Jake said. "Noted, Jake. Love you. Get well soon, okay?" Ava said and ran downstairs. "Ava dear, I have packed your lunch. Please have them so you starve. Also, snacks are in there. Please have them before lessons start. That should serve as breakfast." Mrs Miller said. " Oh my, Thank you, mom. I will get going now." Ava said. "Behave yourself over there, okay? Grayson High is a school........" ".......of the elites, I know, mom." Ava cut in. "You know, we aren't too rich and you are only there on scholarship. Don't let anyone belittle you over there." Mrs Miller said. "You know that's impossible, mom. It's ava, remember?" Ava said. "And please, don't get into any fights. It can cost you your scholarship as punishment." Mrs Miller instructed. "Noted, mom. I will be going now." Ava said. "Goodbye, dear. Be home early." Mrs Miller said. "I will. Bye." Ava said and left. Ava was mixed with different feelings that day. She was excited she will be attending Grayson High. She was sad she withdrew from her previous school, leaving her old friends behind. She was nervous because she was going to be attending a new school where she would meet different people with different backgrounds plus she was not really good at socializing. When she got to Grayson High, she was amazed to see a lot of students doing one thing or the other. Some were playing. Some were talking in groups. Some were even shooting videos. There were loud chatters from every angle. This was actually the first time Ava was attending a school where students wore uniforms. This got her very irritated. She was like "Ugh! Why is everyone wearing the same thing here?" A student who was passing by heard ava and asked, " You're new here, right?" "Yeah." Ava replied. "The student smiled and said, "That explains it. You don't know the school you have been admitted to." Ava chuckled and said, "Of course I do. The most talked about high school in the city, Grayson High. "Oh dear. I know you must be excited but don't be. The school isn't it. Trust me." The student said. "Well, it's actually otherwise. I'm not "excited". I mean, I am of course but not to a certain extent. About the school being not it, let me witness it for myself. I mean, I'm here already." "The name's Skylar by the way." The girl introduced. "Ava. My name's Ava." Ava introduced. " There's no need for the intro, darling. We won't vibe, okay? Toodles." Skylar said. Ava stared at Skylar with disgust as she sashayed away. "What's wrong with her? Well, I have more important things to attend to. She shouldn't be my problem." "Where is Principal Smith anyways?" Ava asked herself. "In his office, silly." A voice answered. Ava turned to see who it was. It was another female student but this one seemed more cooler than Skylar. "I'm Della. You just be new here." Della said. "Yeah, I'm Ava." Ava introduced. "Nice name." Della complimented. "Thanks." Ava said. "Alright, so to go to the Principal's office, you will have to go straight, then turn right. Go down the stairs you will meet. Then turn right. Then walk down the hallway and turn left. There, you will see the Principal's office. It's labelled there so you will be sure it's the principal's office. Got it?" Della said. "Got it. Thanks a lot." Ava said. Then a loud bell rang . "Oh, I have to go now, ava. I'll see you during recess." Della said and hurriedly left. Ava embarked in the journey to the principal's office but as she was walking, something caught her attention. She heard noises from a door. She then peeped. As she strained her eyes to look through the key hole, she gasped heavily. She couldn't believe what she saw.
