Chapter 3: Bringing in A-class doctors and showcasing wealth

1309 Words
The ride to the hospital was tense and silent. Ace's mind raced, constantly turning over Luther's words about the twenty trillion dollars, his name, and everything he had been kept in the dark about. He had always assumed there was someone else out there with the name 'Winchester,' but now it was clear-it had been him all along. Luther had used his name to secure partnerships, making deals behind his back without his knowledge. The realization hit Ace hard. Just how powerful had his name become? And how much of it was tied to the wealth he'd never even known about? As the sleek black car pulled up to the hospital, Luther broke the silence with a forced cheer. "We're here." But the fake cheer in his voice didn't escape Ace's attention. "Wait for me, and make sure to call the top doctors here," Ace ordered, his tone cold as he opened the door. Luther hesitated, his lips curling into an uncertain smile. "But these are top doctors. They're usually very busy..." "I want the best for my mom. Don't make me repeat myself," Ace snapped, turning his back on Luther, heading straight for the entrance. It hadn't been long since he last saw his mother, but the oxygen mask on her face now felt like a cruel reminder that something had gone terribly wrong. As Ace walked through the sterile hallways, he felt the weight of his previous life-his humiliation, his powerlessness-bearing down on him. He couldn't let it happen again. Not now, not when he was so close to everything he had to reclaim. Ace finally reached his mother's room, but when he saw her, his heart sank. She was connected to an oxygen mask, and her face was pallid with weakness. She hadn't been like this yesterday. "Hey, what happened to my mother?" Ace asked a nurse as she passed by, her face etched with concern. The nurse looked up, momentarily pausing. She glanced at the patient behind the glass, then back at Ace. "So, she's your mom? You should speak with the doctor about that, but... please be careful with him." "Wait! Where's the doctor's office?" Ace called after her, but she was already gone, retreating into the labyrinth of the hospital. Frustrated, Ace slammed his fist against the wall. He was out of patience. "I know where it is," Luther's voice came from behind him, making Ace turn to face him. "Please, show me. And have you contacted her doctors?" Ace raised an eyebrow, his gaze sharp. Luther hesitated slightly before responding. "I've called them. They'll be here soon," Luther lied, his voice betraying a hint of uncertainty. "Don't lie to me, Luther. I don't trust you," Ace hissed, pinning him against the wall. "If you want me to trust you, be honest with me." Luther winced but didn't speak. Instead, he forced a smile and led the way. "Fine. Let's just go," Ace muttered under his breath. *** The doctor's office was bustling when they arrived. Ace was furious. He had waited long enough, and now time was running out. The moment he entered, a doctor glared at him. "Who are you? You don't just walk into my office like that!" "I'm sorry, sir. It's an emergency. My mother's name is Marietta," Ace explained urgently. "Marietta? That old woman who's about to die?" the doctor responded callously, his words like daggers. Ace's fists clenched, but he controlled his anger. "She has a chance to live. Help her. That's all I'm asking," he said through gritted teeth. "Get out of my office. You're not paying for her treatment. What makes you think I'll waste my time on her?" the doctor sneered, slamming his laptop shut. Ace felt a wave of frustration and rage building inside him, but just as he was about to act, the door burst open. A petite nurse rushed in. "Doctor, you have to see this. Some people are here claiming your experiments are invalid because their students solved the hypothesis," she said frantically. The doctor froze for a moment, his eyes narrowing. "Who dares challenge my research?" he demanded, then stormed out of the room, leaving Ace dumbfounded in his wake. Confused, Ace followed the doctor out, watching as the man almost tripped when he saw who was standing in the hallway. "You didn't tell me Doctor Baron and Doctor Damion were here!" the doctor said, clearly shocked, rushing toward the two famous doctors who had gathered near the receptionist. Doctor Damion, a seasoned expert, turned upon hearing the mention of "top clients." "Top clients? Yes, that's why I'm here," he said, his tone professional. "I've been told a Miss Marietta is in need of surgery. Her superior vena cava needs immediate attention." Ace's heart skipped. He quickly approached, listening in. Doctor James was stunned. "Her? I was told she's just a minor patient. Why are the best doctors coming for her?" Without hesitation, Ace approached the doctors, not caring about the shock on their faces. "Why are you so late?" he demanded, frustration and anger evident in his voice. Doctor James looked at him, disbelieving. "Who do you think you are to speak to them like that? You think you can command these doctors?" he scoffed. Ace ignored the man and focused on the legendary doctors, his voice low and controlled. "Are you the doctors who are here to save my mother?" Doctor James stepped in front of Ace, blocking his path. "You have no right to speak to these legends like that. I'll have you and your mother kicked out of this hospital," he threatened. Just as James finished speaking, Doctor Baron slapped him across the face, sending him sprawling to the floor. "Apologies for his stupidity, Master Ace. Let's go to your mother." Ace's eyes widened in disbelief as Doctor James lay on the floor, stunned. "Thank you," Ace said, his voice laced with icy authority. He turned and led the doctors to his mother's room. *** When they reached Marietta's room, Luther was standing guard. He looked relieved to see the doctors. "We need to move her to a private facility," Doctor Damion murmured as he inspected Marietta's condition. "It's worse than we thought. She's stable for now, but she needs constant monitoring." Ace's chest tightened. This was all Richard's doing. He swore he would make him pay, but first, he had to reclaim everything he had lost. "Okay," Ace said, exhaling. "Let's move her now." But just as they were about to prepare to move his mother, Doctor James stormed in. "You can't move my patient without my permission!" he shouted. A young man with white hair appeared and handed Doctor James a letter. The paper was from Doctors Baron and Damion. James' eyes went wide as he read it. The letter was a formal termination of his medical license, signed by the two renowned doctors. Ace, watching it all, couldn't help but smirk. He turned to leave with Luther, ignoring James' desperate pleas. As they were leaving, Doctor James crawled toward Ace, pleading for mercy. "Please, sir. Don't let them take my license. I've been a doctor for years! Please!" Ace stopped and looked down at him, his face full of contempt. "Like you had mercy on my mother?" he scoffed. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry," James begged, tears streaming down his face. He was shaking with fear. Luther whispered something into Ace's ear, causing a cruel smile to appear on his face. "Sell your hospital to me," Ace said coldly, his voice full of finality. Doctor James' face turned pale as he realized what was happening. His entire world was crumbling around him. Ace knew this was just the beginning. There were things to fix, people to make pay, but for now, his priority was his mother-and the first step had already been taken.
