Marceline woke up with a headache, Bands of sweat filled her face and her body vibrated, Her eyes were open, but she was unmoving, The first few minutes were traumatic for her, She wasn’t aware of where she was or at least her mind hadn’t registered it.
It took a while before she understood where she was and then she jolted awake screaming, “Ahhhh!”, That was enough to get the girls up, They each woke with their eyes still droopy but a glint of fear in it.
“Please don’t tell me you saw a rat or something-“, Giselle joked, but Odette who slept close to her shushed her.
“Marceline what is wrong?”, Odette noticed Marceline’s increased breathing, Her eyes were red and her pale skin was pink all over, Odette’s tone of speaking was enough to bring attention to Marceline who looked distraught.
“I wasn’t here- I was in a forest-“. She glitches in her words, Marceline looked in disbelief at the position she was in, she knew she wasn’t here a while ago, so what happened?….
"There was a horse, it was tall.... Very tall", Marceline gasped again , it was becoming harder for her to remember the things in detail and the more she thought about it, the harder it was to remember, "I was asked to tame it, I couldn't, I ran, I was scared...."
“Take it slow, Marceline we cannot understand you”. Delphine said taking cautious steps towards her, Marceline backed away scared and Delphine stopped moving, “Its Okay I can hear you from there”. She re-assured her.
Marceline nodded her head and tried to form words, “I had gone to the Beta’s court, He took me to the stables... There was um..”, Marceline felt a pang in her head as she spoke and she held on to the left side of her head.
“Marceline you were assigned to the kitchen, you worked with me”. Renée said, Marceline shook her head uncontrollably, “No I didn’t I, I had gone to the stables I swear, I ...” Marceline Could not form words, She felt her head drop and her body fall to the ground. She had passed out on the floor without warning.
“Marceline!!!”, They ran towards her body to shake her awake but Marceline remained unmoving, '’Is she dead?”, Giselle said scared.
“Don’t say that, she isn’t dead, I hope not”. Renée said while touching Marceline’s pink body, “She is cold”.
Delphine examined her body and her brows raised as she spotted something in her neck, On her neck was a huge red mark that resembled the fangs on an animal.
“What is this?”, She said pointing to the mark, The girls gasped, “She may not be lying after all”. Odette said.
______
The next day was a haze, Marceline woke up with a fever and her eyebags were thicker and darker than ever, She spoke to none of the girls, not because they refused to talk to her, but because she chose not to. Her personality was dead by the morning, it was like the fire in her had been put off by a tsunami that swirled depressingly in her head.
She did not feel the same, She did not feel sane and she felt used, like she had lost touch with her mind. She knew she needed to remember something that happened the previous day and anything would suffice.
“You look lost Marceline”, Renée commented close to her as she passed a ceramic bowl to her, Marceline put the bowl in the big bowl of water in front of her and rinsed it, “I guess I am a little lost, I can’t figure out some things”. Marceline was loose with her words, she hoped to not give anything away rather than the mark which they had seen on her.
She faked a smile, hoping they would move on from the incident, “Don’t do that, I can totally see that it’s fake, I saw the mark yesterday and I know there’s something more”. Renée said.
Marceline observed her, her eyes were raised and her lips in a thin line, She was angry but most especially she had a lot left to say.
“What do you think?”.
“According to what I know about werewolves they mark people just like vampires do and aren’t immune to blood so there is a high chance they would drink from you, for your hazy memories I have one theory”, Renée suddenly dropped her plate while she turned her full attention to Marceline.
Marceline raised her brow, “What is it?,” she asked again and Renée smiled.
“Only a powerful Werewolf has the ability to completely erase an event from history, if you claim that yesterday happened then it did and you encountered The great Lucius because only he could do that, but I suggest you forget about it now, there is a reason why things are meant to be forgotten.
.
Marceline took her word for it, she was too exhausted to be thinking, her limbs felt sore and so did her chest, it seemed like she had run a marathon as she was constantly tired.
The rest of the day flew by and the girls were sent back to their quarters, It did not feel like a Coincidence to Marceline when they ran into Beta Mikel who resisted her glances. They had greeted him for a while before he bid them farewell in a hurry as they passed him, Marceline saw him from her side turn to his back and give her one last glance before mouthing off, “I know”, ?
Marceline trembled inside , but she kept the little bit of confidence in her and smirked at him.
