“You don’t like it when I touch you?” Raven asked, his eyes flashing with a mischievous glint. His hand around her waist tightened as he drew her closer, his breath tickling her ear. “Are you sure?”

“Get your hands off me,” Angel said, breathless. “You bastard.”

Before she finished, he covered her lips with his.

Prologue
The sound of tap rushing echoed throughout the filthy, grimy public bathroom. The lights flickered on and off, indicating how dilapidated the building was. The foul smell that permeated the place made Angel scrunch her nose in disgust. Splashing some water on her face, she cupped her hands to catch the water from the dirty brown sink and brought it to her mouth to hastily gulp it down, an action that would have repulsed her greatly two weeks ago. But now that she was used to the routine, drinking toilet water wasn’t all that disgusting, not when she was dying of thirst without a dime in her pocket. Right now, she was just glad to have seen another day. Lifting her head, she gazed at her reflection, noticing the questionable brown stains that lined the mirror. The girl in it had long, hazel-brown hair that had not touched a comb in days. Her face was pale and massive dark circles were underneath her big hazel eyes. She looked hollow and had a blank expression on her face. Her clothes were a ragged mess. Her once-pink hoodie was riddled with holes and stained with dirt and blood, and her jeans were severely worn out. She had several cuts and bruises from all the climbing and crawling she did while sneaking into abandoned buildings and construction sites to sleep at night. Soaking everything in, tears gathered along the rims of her eyes as she broke down in the bathroom, her sobs resonating around the room. How could her perfect life change drastically? How did she end up like this? Why her? She asked herself. Two weeks ago, it was a cold evening when some men barged into her house while she was upstairs in her room. She sneaked out to see what was going on and saw three men holding her father hostage, asking him questions he didn’t seem to know the answers to. When they weren’t satisfied by his responses, they put a bullet in his head. After barely escaping through her window, she had been on the run, trying to escape the people after her. While hiding, she did some research and found out that those men were part of the Mafia, the Marcel family to be exact. She recognized them by the tattoo on their wrist, a black spade. For two weeks, she ran for her life, having no clue which connection they had with her father. In her twenty-two years of life, her father had made sure to give her everything she wanted. She was never forced to pick up a broom. Now her life had turned into this; Sleeping on roadside benches, drinking water from dirty public bathrooms, and sifting through people's trash for food while avoiding anyone who looked remotely suspicious. She didn't know how long she had to keep this up but would do it as long as she could. And would avenge her father. Pulling herself together and wiping her tears, Angel pulled her hair into a ponytail to look more presentable. After swishing some more water in her mouth, she spat it out and was ready for the day. It was very early in the morning when she sneaked out of the gas station and entered the streets where people gave her weird looks because of her appearance. She ignored them, thinking of a way she could get her hands on some cash and book the next train out of town. When she ran away, she left everything behind including her phone. The last friend who tried to help her, received a bullet to his arm when the men caught them. So, she couldn't risk dragging another person into this. She didn’t want to resort to stealing either. Her father raised her better than that. The smell of hot coffee and freshly baked doughnuts assaulted her nostrils as she walked, making her stomach growl in hunger. For a moment she paused, gazing at the bakery in front of her. After not eating a proper meal for days, she would die for some hot coffee. “Get out of here!” A young lady who was about to enter the bakery stopped and waved her away as if her presence made the place less appetizing. Considering her shabby appearance, it probably did. Giving the lady a middle finger, Angel continued on her way, dragging her feet on the pavement. She only stopped when she spotted an alleyway. Smiling, she ducked into it, hoping to find some edible trash to satisfy her hunger. As she searched through the garbage, she noticed a hooded man walking into the alley from one end. He had his head bowed and was heading straight for her. Shoving a discarded pizza slice into her mouth, she knew it was time to leave. She stood up and made her way out of the alley from the second opening, only to see another man in a hat walk in, blocking her escape route. She turned back slowly to see no longer one man behind her but three. “s**t!” She muttered before running ahead, hoping to escape the man in front of her. With her small size and quick thinking, she was able to escape the man’s hold before he could grab her. After staying in the street for two weeks, she had picked up one or two tricks. Angel's eyes caught the spade tattoo on the man’s wrist and her face paled, her lips wobbled in fright. It was the Marcel family. They had found her. Picking up her pace, she was desperate to leave the alley, hoping to lose them in the crowd on the streets. She could hear their thundering footsteps behind her and their yells for her to stop. Angel successfully got out of the alley and hope blossomed in her chest. There was a chance of escape now, she thought. But her hope came crashing when three cars suddenly surrounded her from all sides. Several men stepped out, instantly pointing their guns at her. No, no, she couldn't die this way, she panicked, looking for a way out but found none. Before she could do anything more, she felt a sharp sting on her neck and her whole world went dark.
