Bethany turned towards Kayla “And you! How could you do this to my dad? I warned him when he brought you home as his wife, but he never listened. I could see right through you from the very first time I set my eyes on you.” she fumed.
“Wait, you thought I loved your dad, that's why I married him? The joke must be on you then. I only married Jones simply because of his caring and loving nature. And he has little change I could spend.” Kayla scoffed
“Mason is all man, he's handsome and strong. I love him too and I'm certain you can't take care of him like I will. See? And who wants to be with an ugly woman like you? You can't hold a candle to my beauty and you know it!” Kayla flipped her hair and stood at Akinbo
Kayla's words pierced into Bethany's heart like a sharp knife. She couldn't help but feel sorry for her dad. Before she could see what was happening.
Kayla walks right up to Bethany and shoves her, since she wasn't expecting such an act from her, she couldn't counter her attack on time. That made her lose her balance and she fell. Standing up, she rubbed her sore butt before surging forward to put Kayla in her place, but Mason quickly stopped her by standing in between both women.
“Let this go, Beth, there's no point. It's over! I've moved on with Kayla, please do the same and stop this drama already.” he snapped, still protecting Kayla from her wrath.
He gathered his belongings and picked up his car keys from the nightstand before walking up to Kayla, he brushed a stray hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear. Looking at her with so much tenderness and love.
This look used to be reserved for only her. She would practically melt whenever he looked at her like that anytime they were together.
“Are you alright? “ Mason asked Kayla and she nodded. Giving him a puppy look. He let out his hand to grab hers, intending to leave the room when Bethany stretched out her hand to stop them.
“It's over between us then. I don't ever want to set my eyes on you in my life. The day I do, you'll regret it.” she warned, the seriousness was evident in her bloodshot Emerald eyes.
She sets her gaze on Kayla. This time around pointing her finger at her. “ My dad is lying cold in the mortuary and this is what you do to honor his name as his wife?” her voice trembling, as tears started running down her cheeks.
Bethany was marching towards Kayla when Mason blocked her path once more. Looking at him straight in the eye, she boomed. “ Get the hell out of my house, the both of you, before I kill you.”
She walked towards the door. Dragging it open with so much force. “Get out!” she yelled.
Mason didn't say a word. Instead, he eyed her from head to toe before dragging Kayla out with him.
Several emotions were whirling inside Bethany. Betrayal, anger, pain, and sadness. She didn't know which of them to embrace. She couldn't cry the way she wanted in their presence, or else they'd call her weak, which didn't fit her status at this time. But she couldn't care less.
Immediately the house was quiet. Bethany broke down and cried the way she had never done before. Her once beautifully packed hair has scattered, some are plastered on her face, her nose and eyes red from the constant crying she had done these past few days.
She finally got up with shaky legs, her hands placed on her chest. Her whole body trembling “Forgive me, Dad. I've failed you. I'm a worthless daughter.” she couldn't stop the tears from flowing down her cheek. Her whole body was so cold as though she was in a freezer.
And then, it started raining and it felt like her dad was crying alongside her.
After taking a hot shower, Bethany sat down on her bed reminiscing over the loving memories she had shared with her parents. Tears trickled down her face as she wiped them off with her bruised hands. She stood in front of her full-length mirror scrutinizing herself.
The nightwear accentuated her curves so visibly that she was able to see her body shape. Her once shiny emerald green eyes were now a little shade of red and hollow. She looked a bit thinner coupled with her not-so-good-looking hair and chapped lips and nails. Overall, she looks horrible.
Immediately she picked up the hairbrush from the nightstand drawer and lifted the brush to her hair, her phone started to ring.
“Who could be calling me at this odd hour?” Since the phone was on the other side of the bed, on her alarm nightstand, she strode to pick it up. Pressing the device to her ear with her left hand, while holding the hairbrush with her right.
“Hello!… you've reached Bethany Jones, who am I on to please?”
“Good evening Miss Bethany, I'm Attorney Vicent Brown of V&B Solicitors. I'm truly sorry for your loss. My heartfelt condolences.”
Attorney Vincent? She Never heard of Attorney Vincent. Did her dad hire a new lawyer? She knew her father's lawyer and his name was not Vincent. He must have changed his lawyer when he married Kayla. Bethany has never been interested in her father's wealth or properties as she planned on having hers.
Going to sit at the edge of her bed, she placed the hairbrush down, and transferred the phone to her right hand, as she needed to be comfortable for the call.
“Good evening Attorney, Thank you for your concern,” she muttered.
“I'm calling to have your audience concerning your father's last will. I just got off the phone with Mrs Jones. I would love for us to meet tomorrow by 2 pm at your home, as I have other engagements to attend to.”
“Alright Attorney, I'll be expecting you.”
“Thank you Miss Bethany for your earnest cooperation, and have a good night's rest. I'll see you tomorrow,” he added.
The line went dead. Bethany put everything together and called in for the night, but she couldn't sleep as everything that had happened kept on playing in her mind. She didn't know when she slept off.
