MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE

Chapter one The man behind the fortune Logan tylor a young muscular man stood at the edge of his father's lavish table. He watched as his father slammed his fist on the desk, his face red with rage . "You will do as I say or face the consequences." James said his eyes glistening with a cold, calculating intensity. Logan felt a shiver run down his spine as he realized he was the target of his father's furiousness. His father angrily left him as he walked away slamming the door behind him. He knew at this point he had no choice but to heed his father's words. He left his father's office to his room as he slumped on the bed with a sigh. "Mum don't leave me." Weeping Logan said as he held his mum tight on her leg "I'm sorry Logan, I would have liked to stay but your father doesn't care about my wellbeing and again, I have to go to my lover. Stay with your father." Logan's mother said as she hurried out dragging her luggage behind her leaving the nine year old Logan crying. "Shut up! Stop acting like a weakling, brace up yourself like a man. She has gone and left you behind so accept that fact." James yelled at Logan making him to keep shut instantly. "Take him to his room." He ordered one of the maid around. Logan was revered back by a knock on his door. He knew without enquiring that it was time to eat. Logan lived a life of luxury since he was a child. His parents made sure he didn't lack anything even when he wasn't watched by them. His mom left him and his dad when he was still nine because his dad never for once had their time. It was always work and each time she complained he tackled her always asking if she lacked anything shutting her up. Even with all the luxury Logan had, he was very lonely as he was an indoor person since when he was a child. Various people called him a sadist due to that fact. The only person Logan could freely interact with was Jack, James' secretary. He was always there for Logan since he was a child and Logan already took him as a father figure. He was the one who took him to school each day. Logan facing all this difficulties at home, never disclosed to anyone. Everyone thought he was a rich child who could have everything as he pleases. Logan was concerned over his father's obsession for his work. He knew it wasn't ordinary, he needed to find out what was going on. Because of this fact, Logan does not like obeying his father command as he knew it will either hurt someone or someone would be exploited. Logan decided to meet Jack and open up his mind to him as he was getting restless because of his father. Jack couldn't admit his boss James was truly doing some illegal things as he didn't want to get sacked or killed. He found a way of cajoling Logan out of the thought. Logan instinctively did not believe Jack but just had to play along so he can find out the truth himself. Logan began to take steps secretly to find out what his father was keeping away from the world. Since he had access to his father's office, he decided to start from there. Logan ransacked the files in his father's office and found some signed contract. On a closer look, he discovered they were all fake. He reasoned, it was either his father printed out a fake contract to deceive the other party or he inputed a fake signature. In another box still in his father's office, he saw suicide notes, he reasoned again, it was either his father killed those with power and addressed it as suicide or he forced them to write suicide notes by themselves and afterwards killed them. At that instant, Logan vowed not to be in any way like his father. He not wanting to cause any further trouble, decided to do his father's bid making sure it wasn't an atrocity. He understood the reason why Jack could not tell him what his father does. He was scared for his life and job. No wonder his father was so overprotective of Logan not always wanting him to be near him each time he had meeting with his men. His mom lied to him. Part of the reasons she left him and his father was because she found out about the atrocity James committed. Having discovered his father's dark secrets, Logan decided to live his life in a different way. Logan also suspected if the workers in his father's house also knew because they always tried their best not to get on his nerve and each time a guest comes, they pretend they didn't see them. Logan knew what he was doing, since his father would soon hand over the company to him, he decided to remain silent and mend the wrongs in his tenure. James on the other hand thought all what he was doing was to secure a good leadership for his son and clear any form of obstacle. But he was getting pissed off of recent when he noticed Logan no longer obeyed him. At a point, he just wanted to restrict Logan from movement but on a second thought, he reasoned he has done enough damage to the young man. James was already rounding off as he kept clearing the obstacles to pave way for his son to have an easy hold on the company he was going to handover to him. James for the first time in years since his wife left him and his son thought of her. He regretted diverting all his attention on his work rather than his wife and son. There was nothing he could do to change the hand of time that was why he tried all means to clear the way for his son as he did not want his son's hands to be filled with blood as his own was.
