She rushed forward quickly. “What is she doing here?” she screamed, turning back in fury to Lawyer Callan.
“Her presence is vital, for this will to be read” Callan answered.
Sean arched a brow, having a bad feeling about this. But he sat down patiently, his eyes moved away from Lily .
“She’s not even a family, why on earth would her presence be required?” Jennifer continued not giving up.
Lily slowly approached the seat beside Lawyer Callan, afraid that Jennifer might claw out her eyes.
She had received the call from Callan earlier at the hospital, informing her that he was the one who took care of her mother’s surgery.
He promised to take care of every treatment as long as she comes to the Holloway mansion.
But hearing about the will, she was a bit confused and wondered why exactly she was needed.
“Mr. Holloway ordered that his will be read immediately after his death. And here is what he wanted...”
There was a long intense silence after Lawyer Callan spoke. Everyone focused their gazes on him, curious to hear what it was.
‘My son, Sean cannot access his inheritance unless he lives in the family mansion.
As long as he accepts his inheritance, Lily Fisher become his responsibility, he must protect her. If he refuses, his inheritance must be taken away and given to Lily ’
Jennifer’s eyes widened at this. Not only would her son not be able to accept the Holloway’s wealth but he was being forced to take responsibility for Lily . And if he refuses to do this, the mistress’s daughter gets it all.
Hot blood rushes through her vein in fierce anger, she quickly got up again and yelled.
“What rubbish is this?” she asked.
Lawyer Callan looked up from the papers. “I’m not done.” he said, more like a warning.
“What other order do my father have for me?” Sean asked in a sarcastic tone.
Callan clear his throat quietly and answered. “This mansion is willed to Lily Fisher with a sum of one hundred thousand dollars every month” he concluded.
Although Sean maintained an expressionless outlook, his hands clenched on the armrest. He slowly let out a hard breathe.
“This is bullshit!” Jennifer breathed in disbelief. “Morris Holloway...” she gritted
“You bastard!” she cussed out loud.
He had literally ruined her plan.
Sean stood up. “I forfeit the inheritance. You can do whatever you want” he blurted and his mother widened her eyes in horror.
She quickly rushed to his side, grabbing his hand in a plead. “You can’t do that!” she cried.
“The Holloway empire is yours. You can’t give it to some…” she paused and glared back at Lily who was still siting down, frozen. “Mistress’s daughter” she spat.
Sean tried to leave but she grabbed him tighter, shaking her head profusely, refusing to let go. He heaved, his face hard.
“Mom, stop this” he fought but Jennifer refused.
Lily sat there, her brain trying to calculate what had just happened. It seemed like a trap that she should avoid. So she got up abruptly.
“I don’t want the money” she let out.
All the three gazes turned to her, Jennifer with a scorn. She let go of her son and moved closer.
“Of course you shouldn’t. you will be as shameless as your mother if you do” she spat at her.
Lily tightened her fist, swallowing down the insult. She looked up for the first time in a while at her.
“You bet. I’m leaving” she said to Lawyer Callan and proceed to walk out when Sean who was standing a distance away suddenly appeared in front of her, stopping her.
Lily ’s eyes looked up to his, they were blazing in anger towards her. There was a stir panic in her heart and her heart wavered in fear of him.
“Really? Who are you pretending for? You are just as greedy as your mother” he accused.
Hurt flashed quickly in Lily ’s eyes, her eyes welled up as her hands tightened and she almost bit her lips.
She gazed down and fought the words out. “My mother did nothing wrong. She just fell in love, there is nothing wrong with that” she defended for the first time.
She has never hated or despise her mother for the choice she made. Although she did not involve herself with it.
“Really? Your mother ruined a home, and you think she’s innocent?” Sean’s voice was raised, his hands grabbed Lily in a tight grip.
Lily ’s face became glassy as his hold hurts, she tried not to break down. “She would never” she defended again. “My mum is a good person” she fought.
Sean’s gaze hardened, his eyes smoldering as he didn’t release his grip. In that furious, burning gaze, there was something else than anger.
Seeing what was going on, Callan came to the rescue. “I’m sorry but Miss. Fisher, you can only save your mother with the inheritance.” he said and Lily ’s eyes flashed quickly to her.
“What?” she slipped out in shock.
“The money from the inheritance could be used to pay your mother’s hospital bills, if you accept it. Otherwise, I’m sorry I can’t help you” he declared.
Lily ’s heart beat fast, she stared at Sean who was still standing in front of him, glaring. She had just said that she doesn’t want the money.
That she wasn’t a gold digger. But now, her mother’s life was hanging in the balance.
She is even about to forfeit college. This was her saving grace, but at what cost?
Her eyes darted to Jennifer’s accusing cussing glare and she swallowed hard. This was both a blessing and big trouble.
She would be at both Sean and his mother’s mercy.
Sean thrust her off, his angry breathes sounding through the room, unable to bear a second more in the room.
This time, Jennifer was unable to stop him. Rather, she turned quickly to Lily and rushed to attack her but Callan stepped forward to protect her.
“This is now Lily Fisher’s house. You are an intruder” he told her.
Jennifer scoffed in disbelief but she could only shut her lips and walked out, fuming.
The loud bang of the door, hit in Lily ’s heart, telling her of the terror that lies ahead of her life now.
Callan moved closer to her. “Lily ” he called and she flinched a little as she turned to him.
“You don’t have to be afraid. Mr. Holloway made plans to protect you, once you sign this, your mother will be well taken care of” he told her and stretched the papers to her.
Lily stared blankly. Signing this means hell but then, it also means saving her mother and going to college.
“I will sign it” she forced out, her throat feeling too dry.
