Chapter 6 - deceived.

The next day arrived quickly. Ningning woke up and slowly opened her eyes, looking up at the massive, grand ceiling. She felt as though she were floating on clouds. She gazed into space; this was probably one of the best sleeps she’d had in a long time. Ningning blinked straight.. she saw some people ...she couldn't call them maids, but they definitely were helping her by massaging her feet with a fragrant ointment. Blinking beside her, she also saw people fanning her. Ningning reached for her face; it felt incredibly smooth, and her body felt so light. She remembered Grandma Li actually took her to the hospital, then straight home. After eating a delicious meal, she drifted off to sleep... Ningning felt very happy, much more than the uneasiness from her nightmare yesterday. Today, she felt a lot better. As soon as she woke up, Grandma Li entered the room. Seeing that Ningning was awake, she smiled. "How do you feel?" Ningning sat up gently, smiling. Grandma Li, noticing her smile, was pleased. "Now you’re ready for your date," she said with a smile. Ningning froze slightly, noticing Grandma Li's almost mischievous grin. Her eyes narrowed; she realized she had all the clues now. This woman wanted to keep her off the market. Ningning found herself in a luxurious lounge. She sank into a velvet armchair, fanning herself with the invitation card. "Wasn't it supposed to be the guy waiting for the lady to arrive during a date?" Ningning thought. She picked up her glass of cola and took a gentle sip. Just as she set it down, she noticed a very handsome man walk into the private lounge. Ningning glanced a few times; she couldn't help but keep looking back. Each time, he was even more handsome. He was dressed in a beige T-shirt, luxurious and designer pants. As soon as he entered, the women sitting around couldn't help but fawn over him. He looked around, as if searching for someone. After scanning the room, his eyes settled on Ningning's table. Ningning, who had already looked away and was sipping her drink while browsing her phone, suddenly felt a shadow cast over her. She looked up calmly, only to meet his gaze .. the handsome guy was staring right at her. "Ningning," he said loudly. Ningning was taken aback for a moment. How did he know her name? She looked at him from head to toe; she didn't recognize this guy. Was he someone she knew? She sighed silently. They both stared at each other. Seeing no response from her, he calmly took a seat, staring intently at her. "You can't even acknowledge me, eh?" he said. Ningning paused, sizing him up. Her attitude made Kai laugh. "Are you seriously sizing me up right now?" he said. Ningning blinked while continuing to sip her drink. When a waiter approached, “Mister Kai ,what would you like to have?” she froze and caught her breath, nearly spilling her drink on Kai. Everyone looked shocked. Her eyes widened as she realized who he was. So he was Kai... Damn. Now how was she going to act dumb and avoid his questions? There’s no way she could pretend she didn't know him. Her eyes remained wide as she stayed frozen. This was one of the downsides of suddenly transmigrating into another person's body. And what made it worse? He was her blind date? Ningning was so stunned she hadn't said a word, just staring blankly at him. Kai chuckled softly and turned to the waiter. "Give me five minutes," he said. The worker smiled and walked away. He turned back to Ningning, who looked shocked. Kai gently waved his hand in front of her. "Are you alright?" he asked with a smirk. Finally, Ningning regained her composure. She cleared her throat. "So you’re my blind date?" Kai almost immediately burst out laughing. "I'm just as surprised as you are. I didn't even realize it was you." Ningning replied, "What a big coincidence." Kai laughed. "Hey, you haven't even acknowledged me, not even with a single glance. Are you mad at me?" Kai said, tilting his head and looking at Ningning playfully. Ningning rolled her eyes. "I was just shocked that you're here. I was expecting my blind date, not you." Kai chuckled, his laugh so mellow it could make a girl's heart flutter. Ningning was slightly impressed to see this rare, carefully crafted face-to-face. He definitely put a lot of effort into his appearance. By then, the waiter had come back. "So, what would you like to order?" Kai gently asked for water. "Water will be fine." The waiter turned to Ningning. Ningning thought for a few seconds. "I’ll have another cola." The waiter smiled. Kai's expression instantly changed. Ningning noticed. He stared at her. "Hey, since when do you like cola? You always hated it." Ningning froze for a moment, realizing what was happening and what was at stake. She laughed. "Ah, you're overthinking. People's tastes can change," she said calmly, picking up her drink. Kai nodded slightly but didn't look completely convinced. Beneath her calm exterior, Ningning was panicking inside. She quickly shifted the topic. "Since we’re meeting up, where's my gift?" Ningning looked around. Hearing this, Kai coughed, giving Ningning an amused look. Ningning's brows furrowed. Kai playfully reached for his phone to check the time. "Since you’re my date, no gift for you." Ningning's eyes widened. "You dare not." Kai burst into laughter. "Hey, I was just joking. By the way, you're way prettier than before. Damn, I might even fall for you if I see you again." Ningning rolled her eyes with a gentle smile. Kai, as he quickly responded to a message on his phone, asked, "How’s the relationship with your step-sister? Hope it’s not as tense as before." When he mentioned Narin, Ningning's face twisted in disgust. She muttered under her breath, "That bitch." It was just a murmur, but loud enough for Kai to hear. Kai froze. Ningning continued, "Nothing much. Not like we like each other anyway." This time, Kai's expression shifted. Seeing he hadn't said anything, Ningning finally looked at him, meeting his shocked expression. She froze briefly again. What could she have said to make Kai freeze? Ningning panicked. Kai stared at her before finally saying slowly, "You don't like your sister?" Ningning blinked, unsure what to say this time. Kai kept going, "Honestly, that's shocking. And kind of good, considering you were always considerate of her feelings... so naive." "It's nice hearing you embrace the truth," Kai said, smiling. He picked up his phone to continue, then paused. "But that's weird. Why the sudden change of heart?" Ningning smiled. "I just realized." Kai looked at her knowingly. "You just realized?" Ningning blinked. "Yeah, I just realized." Kai chuckled. "That was so fast and so sudden?" Feeling Kai was starting to get suspicious, Ningning just laughed it off. "Ah, you’ve been overthinking since you got here." Kai chuckled again. "Okay, let's just get to the point." He reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope. He carefully placed it on the table, staring at her as she looked at the envelope on the table.
