Nari
As I am walking down the two flights of stairs, holding Psalms hand I am mentally kicking myself for my rash decision to hack off my hair. I can hear Mrs Lightly’s fake laugh at something the Alpha has said, taking a deep breath, I turn the corner and stop, cringing at the sight of her trying to flirt with her hand resting on the Alpha’s arm.
I decide to straighten my back, lift my chin and deal with this head on as I do with most of my wrong choices. The laughing stops as her eyes land on me, the look on her face has definitely made it worth losing my waist length hair. Both Mrs Lightly and the Alpha look absolutely furious with me.
“What the hell have you done to your hair? You stupid girl!” she half whispers half shouts, as she drags me by the elbow into the small lounge at the side of the staircase. I almost fall over my own feet as her and the Alpha push me through the door. I have to say I feel triumphant; I can't help but smirk to myself. I rip my arm from her as I start to smell the metallic scent of blood, followed by the feeling of it running down my arm from her digging her long dirty nails into my flesh.
“Do you have any idea what you have done?” She hisses at me, turning on her I smirk.
“Cut my hair. Why, what’s the problem?” She never had the chance to answer as Travis comes bursting through the door, looking flustered when he announces that they are here. All of my bravado now gone, I feel my heart start to beat faster. Mrs Lightly turns to me with a snarl pulling her lip over her brown stained teeth.
“Let’s see how smart you think you are now girl!” She says and hurries from the room, the Alpha just looks down at me and shakes his head before following her out the room. Reluctantly I follow behind the pair, dragging my feet with regret and reluctance. Taking a deep breath, I headed out of the building to join the others in the front yard.
“Ah, this must be the young lady in question.” A gruff deep voice says, snapping me from my thoughts. If I am completely honest, I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I thought of the Lycan King. It certainly wasn't the sight before me.
Standing before me is the largest man I have ever seen, what surprised me the most was his kind eyes. They are the brightest blue eyes I have ever seen, they almost sparkle. I find myself staring at him, I must look like a fish out of water with my mouth open gawking at him. I snap out of my stare when I hear someone clear their throat from behind him. Blinking a few times, I step back into the line, he smiles and returns to chat pleasantly with the Alpha and Mrs Lightly. I am so in my own head I don't even notice the figure on the other side of the King.
Standing next to the King is what I presume is the prince, looking extremely uninterested in being there almost like he was forced to attend. I try my hardest not to stare at him, but my curiosity is getting the better of me, I can't help myself looking to where the others are deep in conversation and even though I know it's a bad idea I step forward.
His eyes lazily look me over, the look of disgust on the prince's face makes me feel self-conscious and I look down no longer wanting to see that. I shake my head to get rid of that feeling of not being good enough, I look him straight in the eye.
“What are you looking at?” I ask him as I pop out my hip and put my hand on it while scowling at him. He just smirks,
“Don't you know your place, wolf?” The rage at his words rushes through me like a volcano ready to explode.
Before I realise what I am doing I step forward and slap the prince across the face. The look on his stupidly handsome face was well worth the look on it. I just raise my eyebrows and put my hands on my hips.
“How about you know your place, my name is Nari! Got it ?” I was waiting for the hit to come or to be shouted at, what I didn't expect was for the prince to double over laughing. Now I just feel even angrier at his laughter and sheer disrespect. The king, noticing my growing rage, slapped him on the back of the head,
“Kurat, enough mind your manners. Apologise to Nari.” I just stand looking at the bemused Prince Kurat.
“Sorry Nari.” He says whilst trying to regain his composure. He stepped back to stand at his father’s side but never took his eyes off me. I am drawn back to the others when I hear the Alpha offering me to the prince as a coming-of-age gift from the pack. I don't have time to react to their conversation when I feel someone grab my arm.
The touch isn't rough, but the slight tingles make me gasp and I look down then back up to meet the eyes of the one who the hand belongs to. His silver eyes are inspecting my arm, and he looks almost angry.
“Who did this to her?” He glares at the Alpha, then Mrs Lightly. They both look scared but neither speak.
“I asked you a question, do not make me ask again.” If I am honest I had forgotten about the puncture marks on my arm.
“It was Mrs Lightly; she was angry about me cutting my hair.” I say while watching the colour drain from her face.
“You offer her to me as a gift, yet you injure her for cutting her hair?” I am so confused by his question; I just stare at him. I almost burst out laughing at the fact Mrs Lightly started stuttering but I’m startled by Psalm slipping her small hand into mine.
“Nari, are you leaving me? How will I sleep?” She asks while tears start to slip down her small chubby cheeks . Bending down I pick her up and cuddle her to me.
“Hey, don't cry. I'll come back and visit you.” She just snuggles into me, crying. Prince Kurat just stares at me with a frown on his face. I put the still crying Psalm down as a large black car pulls over.
Leaving the only home I have ever known was actually harder than I ever thought. Considering I had been planning my escape since forever. Stepping into the large black car the only seat left was next to the prince, I was nervous.
“Sit, for goddess sake, I don't bite.” Sitting nervously beside him ,I push myself as far into the corner as possible. As I watched the outside go by in a blink, I must have drifted off.
