Besides, we know you are fit for the job.” “We?” “Yes, the management concluded that we should use you.” “Look, I'm sorry, ma'am, I can't.” “Why? What's the matter?” “Nothing, but” “But what, Mr. Dennis? You're going to be there for just few months, and we'll be communicating. You don't have any issues.” “I don't know, ma'am.” “Look, everyone in this company is counting on you. Lily even told me.You were looking excited yesterday when she told you.” “Yes, because I like the fact that they are buying from us.” “Mr. Dennis, if you do this for us, we are going to triple your salary. Just get help us get what we want, that's all.” She said and patted his shoulder and left. Dennis was so confused on what to do. He wanted to call his friends, but He threw phone angrily and sat at the corner, thinking. Later on, at 6pm, he signed out and headed home. He couldn't get over what the manager said. “Dennis, dinner is ready” his aunt said. She noticed he didn't respond, so she went to his room. “Dennis, what's wrong?” “Nothing, it's just a stressful day.” “How was work?” “Fine, aunt.” “Come, dinner is ready.” They both left and went to the dining table. “Oh, Ken and some girl came today.” She said as she served his food. “A girl?. What’s her name?” “I don't know her name, but Ken told me she's been here before.” She said “Oh, Tamara”. He said without a second thought. “Oh, okay. Fine, I just wanted to let you know.” “Thanks, aunt.” “Don't worry about it. Who's Tamara, by the way? She's just your girlfriend.” “Girlfriend?, I'm a broke ass. No girl wants to be with me” he said. “You’re not broke, s**t happens and this is not your last destination. And just know, you're still going to bring me a car one day”. She smiled The next day, he went to work. I wondered why he didn't tell his aunt about the undercover job he was going to do. Because if he doesn't comply, they'll force him to. “Dennis, how are you? Good morning” Lily said. “Just been here waiting for you.” “Oh really?” “Yes” “Until you told Mrs. Kate about Mr. Wilson. Why can't you keep secrets?” “It's not a secret.” “Well, thanks, because I'm going to be doing some sort of undercover s**t for some Mr. Wilson” “and his daughter”. She added. “What's with you and the daughter?” “Well, if you must know, I've always wanted to be an influencer.” “So, Why do I have to help you?” “ I tried talking to her once. She snubbed me.” Lily said, and Dennis laughed. “She snubbed you?” “Yes, I swear.” He chuckled and left. Getting to his manager's office. He rearranged his shirts and went inside. “Hello, Mrs. Kate. “ “Hello, Mr. Dennis.” “I hope you had a good night's rest?.” “Yes ma’am, thank you”. “What did you conclude to?” “Conclude?” He asked himself. “Yes” “I thought you just wanted to see me in your office.” He said and Mrs. Kate laughed. “Why would I want you in my office, if not for the discussion between us?” “Of course, I'd love to do anything for the Phoenix, but that's too risky for me. I just a random nobody.” “You see, that's why we need you. Because you have nobody. You have no intel. Look Mr. Dennis, I respect your decision, Let me give you some more time okay?” “But Mrs, Kate….” “You can leave now”. She told him and he headed back to his post. He was so ashamed of himself for not accepting and also felt a bit relieved for the decision he made at the same time. Lots of customers came by. He was happy that he could do his best. It was 6pm, He signed out and left. He got home. His auntie was at the living room. “Hello aunt Diane.” “Oh hey Dennis. How was work?” “Fine. But” “you know, stressful, Yeah.” “Yeah.” He said. “Oh, This came by.” She gave him a letter. “What's this?” He asked as he opened it. “Oh my goodness. I'm due for rent.” “It's okay honey. I've talked to them. They'll give us some more time.” “No aunt. I've been owing for 2 months. I was supposed to pay last month. I borrowed…Oh my god…I borrowed Ashley. Now I'm not going to be able to cover for it.” “Who's Ashley?” “ Oh my goodness. He's never going to refund the money. I'm so f****d up.” “Who's Ashley? A friend?.” “No aunt. He's a guy…. He’s a guy I met at a club. He's the owner of the club, He told me to lend him some money and I was so drunk, I lent him the money and then, later when I realized, I went back to the club, I didn't see him. They told me he traveled.” “Dennis, how could you do such? How much did you lend him?”. “about $12,000?” “that's huge. How much is the rent?” “$3,000, That's $6,000. You have the Ashley's number, don't you?” “Yes, I do.” “call it.” “I’ve tried severally, he doesn’t pick my call”. “Does Ken and Nate know about the money too?”. “They know him, but they don’t know about the money..” “But how could you, Dennis? How could you lend such amount of money?. “I'm sorry, I was so, so drunk.” “You know what? Just tell Ken first. So they can help you find this Ashley guy.” “Okay, I'll just tell him. He dialed Ken's number and he picked. They talked and He told him help him find Ashley. “Tell him what happened too.” His auntie whispered. Dennis explained what happened too. “Don't worry, Dennis. I'll come to your house tomorrow and we'll help you find this guy.” Ken said over the phone. He said and hung up. “Now you have a lead.” His aunt said. “I think i should just tell you What's happening at work too. The manager, Mrs. Kate, told me that she wants me to go work at Tally's company for a few months for some stupid mission. “Isn't that Mr. Wilson's company?” “Yes” “The Popular Mr. Wilson” “Oh, no, honey. He's not a good person to be with.” “I know, My dad worked at the company for a few years and moved to his second company. He got his hands in some mess, on his escape. They caught him, tortured him, caged him, and killed him. and now that b***h is telling me to go work there.” “No, no, no, no, no. She probably didn't know the reasons why you didn't accept the offer.” “She wouldn't bother because I'm a nobody.” “Dennis!!, You are not a nobody, okay?” “I'm going to sleep.” “And about your dad, your mom said he did all of that because of you. Because he knew they were going to come after you. That's why you and your mom came to stay at my place for a few months.” “Why are you telling me this now?” “I'm sorry, but you were still little. I was going to tell you. You were a bit older, but you left to the city.” “Then you must know what happened to my mom.” “No, I don’t.” “Auntie, please. I know she didn't have any breast cancer.” “Come on, Dennis” “No, I know my mom.” “How well?.” This question got him quiet. And he just walked out and his room to lay his head down.
