THE PROPOSAL

Her door bell rang, Lily woke up sluggishly from her bed, rubbing her eyes with her palms, she had been so exhausted from partying all-night with her best friend Jayne Gold. "Breakfast is served Ma'am " the voice who had rang her door bell spoke from outside her room... It must be one of her numerous Servants being an only child of the Prime Minister Mr Grinelle Bronte, and her mom the executive director of operations in Hamad Town in Barhrain. She had lived and known luxury all her life. Lily finally got up from her warm, cozy bed and headed for the bathroom.... **************************************************** "We're running late Sharon,.please hurry up" James Leasor called out from the poor looking living room where he had sat waiting for his lover... Sharon showed up almost immediately "How do I look" She said with smiles "Stunning" James replied with smiles, he had grown to love and admire Sharon from the day they met. "I need to get this job, you know how important it is for me to, Dads health and life depends on it" Sharon said, the smile on her face suddenly turned to a sad look and she reminisced on her family's predicament. "Worrying won't change a thing my darling, you'll go for this interview, get the job and every other thing will fall into place" James who had noticed his fiancees sad look , stood up and walked to her with words of encouragement. The two lovers walked out of the house holding hands, as they headed to James Leasors car that was parked outside the small compound. *********************************"******""""""""""""""" Lily's phone beeped, it was her best friend Jayne "hey girl, what's going on with you" ? Jayne asked from the other end of the phone "I'm home doing nothing, still exhausted from last night and it was so much fun, thanks again girl" Lily responded "what's the plan for today"? Jayne inquired "I'll have to go to the hospital later today, remember today is my treatment day" Lily spoke "I'll come over soon and accompany you dear" with these words the call ended. Lily had developed a life threatening ailment since she was five and all amount of treatments and prescription hasn't been able to do justice to it, and so she and her parents had resolved to constant medical checkups and treatment to keep her going Mr and Mrs Bronte loved their only child so much, they would do anything to make her happy, ever since Mrs Katherine lost the ability to bear children after a fatal accident that almost cost her life , few years after Lily was born..she knew her only joy and hope was Lily and she took extra care of her. however the pleasure, luxury and love showered on Lily had turned her into an ill-mannered girl, she had all she wanted and so she felt she should always have whatever she wants , even at the expense of others, she had less or no regard for people and their choices especially the low class citizens, she believed so much that the rich and the poor had nothing in common and the poor was made to serve the rich. her parents however never corrected or tried to discipline her for fear of loosing their only child. Jayne showed up about an hour later as promised, she was the only one that could put up with all of Lily's excesses, they had been friends from childhood Jayne's parent were rich as well and were friends of Lily's parents, hence their closeness. Good day Ma, Good day Sir" Jayne greated as she walked into the living room meeting Lily's parents seated and discussing "Good day dear" Mrs Katherine responded "How are your parents"? She furthered asked " they're doing good Ma" she responded with smiles "Lily is upstairs I guess shes expecting you" Mr Grinelle spoke... after the pleasantries Jayne headed upstairs to Lily's room. *******"**"""**************************************** Sharon walked out of the office smiling and extremely eager to tell her Lover and brother all about the interview, she opened her old-fashioned handbag that hung on her left shoulder and brought her cellphone and tried calling James. "Hey love, I'm done and I'm waiting for you" she spoke immediately James took the call "I'll be there shortly" James had replied. True to his words, James car drove into the Company few minutes later, with Joe Davidson, Sharon's younger brother seated in the car as well. The two men highlighted from the car, Sharon ran into James arms "How did it go" James asked with an inquisitive look... Good afternoon Sharon" Joe greeted "Hey little brother, how are you, I thought you're supposed to be at work?" Sharon asked as they hopped into the car, "yeah, but I needed to see Dad , so I closed earlier" Joe explained Sharon briefed them about the interview as they headed to the hospital to check up on their Dad. Mr Arthur Davidson had fallen sick few years after his wife whom he loved so much died. His wife's death has played a great role in the detrement of his health as he had never been the same since her departure, living life alone and struggling to raise his two children, Sharon and Joe, he wanted to give them the best life he could offer and eventually became very I'll because of hard-work. His wife had died of an infectious disease, she could have survived if they had enough money for her treatment, the fact that he couldn't save his wife gave him a heartache daily. They arrived the Hospital and headed straight for Ward 5 where their sick Dad had laid for months now, the three had turned sober and sad the moment they walked into the ward and saw their Dad laying unconscious and almost lifeless. Tears streamed down Sharon's face, their father was all they had left The three left the room to the doctors office. "I apologise Miss Sharon but it isn't your turn to see the doctor" the nurse at the reception said "Alright, we'll just wait then" Sharon replied just then the doctor came out of his office "Good afternoon Doc" the three chorused "Miss Sharon right?" Doctor George Klein inquired "yes sir"Sharon replied "Nurse, who's next on my seeing list?" Dr George asked the nurse receptionist. "Lily Bronte, Sir, but shes yet to come sir" the nurse replied "okay, I'll see Sharon, while we wait for Lily" Dr George instructed. Sharon, Joe and James followed the doctor into his office. "How is his condition now Doc"? James Inquired the moment they stepped into the office "please have your seat" Dr George replied and they all sat down "we still have hope right, Doctor please say something" Joe who was getting impatient asked. Dr George sighed deeply, removed his glasses and started speaking. "We have hope," he started, but we need to act as fast as possible, one of his kidneys, the left one particularly has developed issues due to the weight of work and heartache he has haboured over time, and this state has led to the malfunctioning of the right kidney... this means that his both kidneys are bad and would stop functioning any moment from now, he needs a kidney transplant, for both kidneys, but if we can get one for now it can save his life" Dr George patiently explained. "kidney transplant?!!" Joe screamed in frustration "how much will this transplant cost Doc" James asked "for both kidneys it will cost about 12million, and 6million for one" Dr George spoke Sharon was already tearing up knowing she did have such amount of money and they wouldn't be able to raise even in a year, while James tried comforting her, Joe was speechless this moment of soberness was soon interrupted by some yelling voices coming from the reception. "if you don't mind, excuse me, I need to attend to that" Dr George spoke as he walked out of the office, the three walked out as well following behind him. "What's going on here' Dr George inquired the moment he got to the reception "Sir... the nurse was about to speak when Lily cut her shut "Good afternoon Doctor, this mannerless poor receptionist stopped me from seeing you knowing fully well it's my time to see you, with the excuse of some low lives taking my turn since I didn't arrive here on time, can you imagine doc, you should send this girl away, she doesn't respect people that are higher than her, I was late cause traffic was horrible and she doesn't understand ofcourse she can't, she's never sat on a car let alone experience traffic " Lily ranted angrily. "I'm sorry Miss Lily but all that the Nurse told you was true, you arrived late and by my instruction I told her to usher in the people that were available, your tone is rather harsh, anyways its over now, let's go in" Dr George queried "I apologise on her behalf sir, I really tried to stop the matter from excalating," Jayne apologized Sharon, Joe and James were already close to the scene.... "Who are these people that took my place, I'm sure they're nothing but low lives, " Lily was still speaking when she sighted James , ' wait a.minute!.... James Leasor' Lily called out James was shocked , so was everyone " James Leasor, it's you, don't you remember me, its me Lily, Lily your friend from High school" Lily who had ran towards James tried to explain. "Lily? James who seemed to have recalled spoke "yes, its me" Lily replied with so much excitement "wow, you've really changed,it's so good to see you again" James exclaimed "yes, and you too, you've grown into a fine young man" Lily commented Sharon cleared her throat, and James knew it was enough and time to go, Sharon walked out with her brother following her "I'm really sorry, I have to run now," James said and without any more words he ran out following his fiance and fiance's brother. ****************************************************
