Chapter 5 – First Kiss and A New Alpha

Once our classes are over for the day we head to our lockers. I start putting my books away that I do not need and packing the ones I do need for my homework inside my book bag.

Then I notice Vin next to me looking the other way at some girl who has the locker on his other side. They are both flirting with each other and giggling. I look to me to my right and see the same thing going on with Damon and some girl. “It’s no big deal,” I tell myself. They are only meant to be bodyguards, not boyfriends, right?

So why do I feel a little bit jealous? “You thought Vin was developing feelings for us,” my wolf, Morgan said. I sighed; she was right. This is exactly why I told myself not to get caught up in his charms.

I stood there leaning against my locker with my backpack on my back and arm folded in front of me while I waited for these two boys to finish with their flirting so we could get to the bus stop outside.

I was beginning to get bored when out of nowhere Alpha Derrick came to stand in front of me.

He unfolded my arms and took my hands in his. Then began pulling me outside with him. Once we were outside, he put his arms around my waist and pulled me in closer to him. I rested my hands on his chest and locked eyes with him. He looked deep into my eyes before putting one of his hands behind my neck and pulling me into a soft kiss on the lips.

This was my first ever kiss from a boy and it was AMAZING! His lips felt so soft and warm pressed against my own. I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach and my mind began to become hazy. His hand that was around my waist started to rub up and down my back. It felt so warm and comforting to be in his embrace, but the moment was short lived because Alpha Vin and Damon had realized that I was missing.

I heard two loud growls come from behind me as Alpha Derrick quickly pivoted me behind him. He began to loudly growl at Alpha Vin and Damon.

“Get your hands off her,” Alpha Vin roared “She never asked me to stop,” Alpha Derrick bragged. “In fact, she seemed to enjoy it.”

Then he began to chastise Alpha Vin about how he seemed to be “otherwise engaged” and how easy it would have been for an enemy to steal me away. He claimed he did the only logical thing by taking me with him to “protect my safety.”

Alpha Vin was made livid by his remarks. “My hero,” Morgan scoffed. “He acts like he did nothing wrong; yet we both know he did this to both get Alpha Vin’s goat and have a private make out session with us,” she continued. “Well, it worked,” I said to her.

Alpha Vin reached behind Alpha Derrick and grabbed me by my arm and pulled me to him. “We need to get to the bus stop. The bus will be here soon,” he said.

Damon, Vin, and I walked to the bench at the bus stop and sat down to wait with the other students from our pack.

I looked down the sidewalk to see the students from the Full Moon and New Moon Packs also waiting for their busses to take them back to their respective pack houses. I saw Alpha Derrick walk to the benches at the Full Moon Pack’s bus stop and watched as he sat down. I stared at him for a few minutes, and he must have felt my eye on home because he turned his head and looked at me. Our eyes locked and he smiled at me. Then he blew me a kiss and winked. Just like that I felt butterflies in my stomach again.

Further down the sidewalk I noticed another boy who I assumed was another Alpha by how large and how he was built. He was a little bit larger than Alpha Vin and Alpha Derrick, both taller and broader, but what stood out the most was his bright platinum blonde hair.

He wore it buzzed short on the sides and longer on top. The sun bounced off his hair and make it look white in spots like he had natural white highlights. His eyes were sky blue. I watched his eyes when he turned to look at me.

When we locked eyes, I saw shock and then confusion flash in his eyes before he blinked, and his eyes become cold and emotionless. His face was stoic. His skin was a pale alabaster color that the sun caused to look like it was softly glowing. It was not the bright white light that emitted from my skin whenever I used my healing powers. His seemed natural, like he always looked this way in the sunlight. It made me wonder if he were gifted as well, but I quickly dismissed that thought believing I would have heard if there was another gifted wolf so close by.

“Unless his pack is hiding it,” Morgan added. “Good point,” I said, reminding myself to dig deeper into it later.

“Who is that?” I asked Damon while pointing to the platinum haired boy. “That is Alpha Zayden Zimmerman, son of Alpha Zachary Zimmerman from the New Moon Pack,” he replied.

“Why didn’t I see him in any of our classes?” I asked. “He is a Sophomore,” Damon answered. That explains why he is larger than Alpha Vin and Alpha Derek.

DAMON’S POV

I got distracted by this cute girl who had the locker next to mine. She smiled at me then tucked her hair behind her ear and giggled, which is usually a girl’s way of flirting. I could not help myself. I had to talk to her. I forgot all about my warrior duties for a few moments. Now I am cursing myself for being so easily distracted.

Alpha Derrick did have a point, though I hated to admit it. An enemy could have sent those girls in to distract us and kidnap Patricia. I wonder why Patricia asked me about Alpha Zayden. Am I going to have to watch out for him now too? I think I might need to speak to Patrick Sr, about this. I thought this was more of a babysitting job. I am no match for three strong Alpha’s.

ALPHA DERRICK’S POV

BEST DAY EVER!! Or at least it was the best day I have had in a while. Not only did I get to kiss Patricia, but I also got to stick it to that smug Alpha Vin who thinks he owns her.

What made it even better was the fact that I got to ridicule him in front of everyone making it look like he could not protect her. I was so stoked when I looked over at her and found her watching me.

I could not help myself. I know it was cocky, but I decided to blow her a kiss and wink at her. When I saw her smile and melt a little bit in her seat, I knew I had done the right thing. Got to keep her interested if I have any chance to steal her from that guy.

ALPHA VIN’S POV

I looked over and Patricia was not there. Panic filled me. I asked Damon where Patricia was, and he looked at me both shocked and puzzled. She was just standing her a minute ago. Maybe she went to the restroom? We checked there and did not find her. Well maybe she went out to the bus stop. I began to panic and ran outside only to find her locking lips with that fool Alpha who thinks her can steal her from me. I was furious. How dare he try to take her away yet again!

Then I realized she probably became upset seeing me talking to another girl. Did he do this to make me jealous? No, that does not sound like her. All we have ever done is hold hands. I guess I am going to have to do some soul searching and figure out if I have romantic feelings for her or if I am just being protective of the gifted wolf and trying to keep her family from leaving my pack?

Either way, it is infuriating that Alpha Derrick is taking every opportunity to swoop in and grab her. Does he like her or is he simply after her gifts? I need to keep a closer eye on him. I will speak to my father tonight. He needs to know.

ALPHA ZAYDEN’S POV

Who was that girl? Was that her? Was that the gifted she-wolf everyone is talking about? Wow, nobody told me how beautiful she was. Was she glowing? She looked like she kind of was when the sun touched her skin. I wonder if I should tell her about me?

I know my father has gone to great lengths to keep my gift a secret and I do not want to ruin that or put my pack at risk; but man, it would be so nice to have someone to talk to about it. Someone I could trust and be myself around.

All everyone else knows is the cold, calculated, ruthless Alpha I pretend to be. I know I cannot be seen as weak. It would put my pack in danger if other Alphas saw me as weak.

I know this, and I am not weak! I just think it would be nice to relax a bit behind closed doors with someone who understood me. Maybe I can find a way to talk to her soon.
