PART ONE: Halloween Party

2123 Words
Ashley’s POV “Do I have to go,” I whine as my best friend Emma finishes putting the final touches on her own costume and comes to stand next to me. I love Emma with all my heart she isn't only my best friend but we are as close as sisters. We steal each others clothes, binge watch movies and eat ice cream every Sunday night, and she even fills me in about every detail between her and her boyfriend Bradley, including their s*x life which I don't like hearing about but listen anyways. Although she is a year younger than I am she moved into our dormitories two years ago and ended up bunked with me, since then we’ve been almost inseparable with the exception of school breaks. She goes back to be with her family while I go home to my grandmas. I envy her family. She goes on and on about her old brother and younger sister and how awesome her parents are. I barely remember my parents or much of my childhood to be honest anytime I try to focus on an early memory my mind becomes fuzzy. “Yes, we rarely get to leave campus and it’s Halloween,” she replies making some minor adjustments as she checks herself out in the full length mirror we are stood in front of. “I promise it will be fun.” We are both about the same height and weight, although I am jealous her muscles are so tone. I rarely ever see her go to the gym and when I ask she just claims it is good genes which makes me even more envious of her family. I have dirty blonde hair that reaches about half way down my back and blue eyes, which I’ve been told look like ice in certain lighting, whereas Emma has Black shoulder length hair and the most entrancing hazel eyes I’ve ever seen. She told me all her family members have the same color eyes and too make sure not too look to deeply into her brother Emerson’s or I may fall in love. She always teases me about dating her brother. I’m not super popular which in all honesty I’m ok with because frankly I don’t like a bunch of attention, I’m perfectly content with my small group of people that I trust. “Did I really have to dress up as Daphne,” I ask pulling at the bottom of the dress. I let her pick out of costumes since I was having trouble deciding and when I suggested a witch she said that was too boring. Of course she picked out the skimpy ones from the live action movies instead of the classic animated costumes which covered a lot more. I wasn’t the hugest fan of showing off my body I thought it brought unwanted attention and could get me into trouble one day. Emma always went on an on about how rockin my body is and I need to show it off more but I simply have always felt best in jeans and a worn out T than anything else. This dress was tight and I turned around to see if my a** was hanging out the back. Emma notices this and smacks it playfully. She has always been very open about her sexuality with me since day one of moving in. She made it clear she is attracted to any and all kinds of people, very progressive of her I think. I don't judge but I did make it clear I was only into guys. She has never made me feel uncomfortable with small things like smacking my butt. It was just her being her super goofy friendly self. Watching her smack and grab Bradley’s a** is always entertaining because he yelps and gives her a scowl. I guess they grew up together and just recently realized their feelings for each other. Its so sweet and they are absolutely adorable together. I will admit when I see them together all lovey dovey it does make me yearn for a partner. Someone to share my days and nights with. A person that could give me those epic butterflies everyone is always raving about. “Yes I’m Velma, Bradley is Shaggy, Emerson is Fred, and that leaves you… Daphne. It’s a group date we needed to match.” “Wait what? Did you tell your brother this is a date?” Emma has been trying to set me up with her brother since she got here. She has begged me to come home with her countless times but I always refuse. She always talks about him probably hoping I fall in love just from hearing how amazing he is. Which he does sound like an awesome big brother. They always go on trips together and he sounds super protective of her. Bradley is Emerson’s best friend which I thought would make it awkward for his little sister to be dating but apparently he was over the moon when he found out they we’re in love. I still can’t believe after only a week of being together they were telling each other they love each other but I guess if it’s your soulmate, which Emma is sure they are, then that makes things different. “No, not like that Ash. I just thought it would be fun for us to all dress up as a group,” she replies and I let out a sigh of relief that this isn't some set up. “I’m excited to meet your brother,” I say as I take a seat on the edge of the bed and slip on the shoes Emma insisted I wear. In all honesty I am excited to meet her brother. From the way she talks about him he seems like an easy going chill guy so I don’t see why we wouldn’t get along. He and Bradley have to go to some special school starting next week so this is kind of their last hoorah before they leave. I know Emma is not looking forward to Bradley leaving her for a whole year which is why I agreed to go tonight to help distract her from that fact. Bradley is a really sweet guy and treats Emma like a queen. Since we go to an all girls school they only get to hang out on weekends and holidays but she has brought him by the dorms a few times. “He’s thrilled to meet you as well. He claims I never shut about you,” she says with a laugh. After slipping her shoes on as well, she grabs her keys, and we get in her car to drive to the party. It is about a 45 minute drive from campus. The house party we are going to is well hidden. I admire the beautiful scenery surrounding both sides of the secluded road we end up on leading to our destination. I could swear while we were driving I heard some wolves howling in the distance but I think it’s just my nerves playing tricks on me. When we finally arrive I can't help that my mouth is hung wide open. I don’t even know if it was technically a house more like a mansion. It is a three story home at least the length and width of a basketball court with a wrap around porch. It is a thing of my wildest dreams and I wonder what on earth the owners do for a living to own such an amazing place out in the middle of nowhere, talk about privacy. I notice there aren't very many cars in the lot out front and wonder if maybe this party she has been going on and on about turned out to be a dud or maybe we are just super early. I see a few people outside chatting and drinking on the porch in their own little worlds. I am quickly proved wrong once we actually get inside and see the place is packed from wall to wall. I am not looking forward to slipping through this crowd. I can't help sink in on myself a bit seeing as though I am not used to being so close to so many people at once, definitely not the hugest fan of large crowds. I wonder how all these people got here with so few cars outside, maybe a few party buses. As we step inside and Emma shuts the door behind us I swear I hear more wolves howling. I make a mental note not to go outside in case they are running around the property I would prefer to not get attacked by a wild animal tonight. Emma grabs my hand in hers tightly and starts pulling us through the crowd. She’s definitely been here before because quite a few people yell her name and wave at her and she seems to be very familiar with the layout of the house. I feel a little uncomfortable being squeezed in between strangers especially when I felt two different guys grab my ass as I walked by. Men can be such animals sometimes treating woman like a piece of meat. I don't respond it isn't worth my time and besides they are probably just drunk assholes. I just keep following swiftly behind Emma until we finally make it into the kitchen which thankfully isn't as packed even though it seemed to be where all the booze was. First she pours two shots and I gulp mine down wincing as the liquor burns going down my throat. She proceeds to grab two cups and mix a few different things inside then hand me one. I'm not a big drinker but we are here to have fun and I told her I would loosen up and enjoy myself for one night. I took a quick drink to calm my nerves. The drink tastes delicious and is slowly starting to kick in the more I drink and is helping push away any unease I feel being in a strangers home partying. “Hey baby,” Bradley’s voice comes from behind as he passes by me to scoop Emma up kissing her several times and hugging her tightly. “Hi, I missed you,” she replies quickly before forgetting about the entire party going on around her and shoving her tongue down his throat, suddenly I feel a little awkward just standing there watching. “Well hi Daphne,” a deep male’s voice says snapping my attention for Emma and Bradley having a heavy make out session in the middle of the crowded kitchen. “Fred,” I reply cheerily and can't help the huge smile across my face once I finally lay eyes on him. He is unbelievably handsome, his body is built like Hercules, and his “f**k me” eyes make my knees go weak. Emma was right, I can't help getting lost in his hazel eyes, and if I don't stop looking into them soon I will fall in love. They are truly mesmerizing and I can swear they changed colors once or twice. His voice is low and sexy yet soothing at the same time and I feel like I could listen to him talk for hours which is ridiculous considering he has only spoken one word to me. He leans back against the counter to watch his sister and boyfriend shamelessly kissing in front everyone as well and when his arm brushes and settles against mine I swear I felt a small spark, like a little prickle of electricity. I am so lost in admiring how hot he is I didn’t realize he has said something else to me and feel like an i***t for zoning out and eye f**king my best friends brother. “I’m sorry huh,” I question as a small blush creeps across my face. “I asked how school’s going,” he responds with a laugh probably realizing by the red tint on my cheeks I am embarrassed that he caught me checking him out. “Oh it’s good. I’m ready for high school to be over,” I reply with a sigh. “Are you ready for your new school next week,” I ask chugging the rest of my drink and placing it on the counter completely mortified by how much his presence is affecting me. “Yes extremely. I mean I’ve been training for it my whole life so…” he trails off then changes subjects quickly. “Let’s dance,” he says as he grabs my hand and pulls me into the living room just as the song switches.
