Quarante Six

Mr. Han went closer to my ear and whispered. “Sir? Are we not going yet? I am a bit cold.” He told me while shaking because of the weather. I sighed and walked to the car park while I scratches my head thinking that the purpose of getting the records that I have now in my hands is because of finding whether she is alive or…not but I know that it was proven by her friend. That part is a relief but what to do with this one. “Let’s go!” I said as we went off the road to go to the hotel. We have one night and one day in here, but I changed my mind and I think it’s time to see the police officer. From what I know is that the case is stopped or finding the mastermind was stopped because the police said that the criminals were caught and no need to continue the investigation, which is bullshit. “Sir, this is not the way to the hotel,” he said as he noticed the change of way. We are not going back—we will give them a visit. “Well, we are going to jail—I mean take a visit to the police station,” I told him the plan, and he nod. He was beside me as I drive off. I saw him in my peripheral vision that he is taking out his laptop. I wonder what is his business than being a private investigator. After some time, he spoke. “So…what I found here is that the police in charge in the was not in town,” “What do you mean?” I asked slightly confused. “What I mean is he was not assigned in Caen this time but luckily he is near Caen,” he explained and I nod. “So? We should what?” I asked for suggestions as I stop the car temporarily on the side. He shrugged but then spoke. “Well, we are on the right path anyway, we can go there directly there.” “Can I ask if your source is reliable?” I asked. “Are you saying that it is not, sir?” he answered me with a question. “Yes,” I answered. “Well, then you can go back to the original plan,” he said as he started to put back his laptop. I shook my head as I thought he will pester me to go with his side this time. “I am just testing you.” “What’s the result then?” “Uh…Yes?” “Yes?” he asked. “Yes, what?” “Just yes. Don’t mind that and I want to know how long we can get there,” I asked changing the topic. He opened it again and replied. “Just 27 minutes.” “So what time remains now?” “10 minutes.” I nod my head never knowing that it will take short as I know we will be completely going to the other town. He set up the Waze and I saw that we will be going to Bayeux. --- It’s a town on the Aure River in the Normandy region of northwestern France, 10 kilometers from the channel coast and 30 kilometers from Caen. It sets a medieval ambiance with its center being the said era which contains cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and the towering, with its Norman-Gothic Cathedral Notre-Dame and an 11th-century tapestry that on display in an 18-century seminary. Jace and Han, we will be entering a new town with so much history and stories written, and carved on its land—but it’s not only the town’s story that you want to decipher but then the story of the past that is always returning to them on the hand of a man. Jace is predicting so many scenarios on his head but still keeping his eyes and focus on the road. How could he do it, I wonder, but once he steps foot on the police municipal, the scenes inside his head might not be done in the reality. Jace's feelings were cut in halves—half wants to take baby steps while the other half wants to solve it a bit faster, without any control over himself he may do the latter. The 30-kilometer ride went off pretty well, he parked somewhere where the other cars are well parked for him. As the two men went out of the vehicle their face says all and every people who visit the town. It looks magical for him, a place where you can shoot films or if he wants to visit the old times he can by looking at the houses and the place. “Sir!” Han nudged his client, well, he became friends with him, he thought. Han has the map of the place—there is no surprise that he knows every place they go under the radar or the continent he lived within. Han is a traveler also besides being an investigator. He loves to travel as much as he loves to investigate, he is a private investigator on his own—meaning there is no boss behind him or a mask in his face. He has a lot of free time, so, with those free time he has, he will explore every nook of the place. He can do a map of the place where many small details might help a newbie on a trip. “What the hell is this?” Jase asked as he open the hand-made map of the town. “Well, as you can see it’s a map sir,” he proudly said. “A map of what?” Jace is seemingly confused about the whole brown paper he has on his hands. “Of Bayeux.” He finished. He wants no more questions as he wants to meet the said police. “Oh!” Jace seems to be glad that he has a reliable partner in crime as Han would define it. He opened the map correctly. He was amused by how the map seems to be old with all the crumpled present on it but how detailed and precise the map is. Just about it, he went confused about where he is right now but then Han reached out to tell him and pointed someplace in the map. “This is where we are sir.” He read the signage of the street in the real-life and the map and how they match with each other. “Whoa!” he exclaimed as he approved that they are really on the same spot on the map. “Hold my beef! Who made this insane map?” “Well, the name is Mr. Han.” He pointed to himself, a self-compliment and self-promotion because he is a shameless dude, anyways. “Oh! I thought you’re just an investigator,” he said and look Han head to toe. “You also look like a person who likes to travel.” “Yes, and by the way, I “love” to travel,” he corrected his boss. “We should get going. We are near the office so we can just walk the blocks to it,” he added. Jace nods and they walk towards the place they have been wanting to go.
