“We should get out of here as soon as we can,” Jackson said quietly. “And keep an eye on Joseph. I don’t trust that bastard.”
Lily snorted. “If that scumbag dares mess with us again, I’ll blow his damn head off.” Just thinking about how Joseph had threatened Bethany made her blood boil.
Jackson frowned slightly at her fiery tone. “Don’t confront him head-on,” he warned. “He’s the type to strike from the shadows. Give it two more days—then we’re leaving.”
Lily pursed her lips but nodded. The captain’s words were law, even if she didn’t fully understand why.
“Alright,” Jackson said, standing and slinging his axe over his shoulder. “Eat first. I’ll check on the river.”
