the advertisement that shook the entire city

Wen Nuan borrowed a sum of money from her friend Tang Mandong and temporarily settled her mother and younger sister Wen Jing in a small apartment. As the eldest sister, she felt the weight of her responsibilities. Fortunately, it was summer vacation, and she didn't have to go to school. Gently stroking Wen Jing's head, she said softly, "Xiao Jing, I will definitely gather your tuition before school starts." Wen Jing bit her lip stubbornly and remained silent. Wen Nuan then went out. She was a student in the acting department of A City's Film Academy and would enter her second year after the summer vacation. She urgently needed money, and acting seemed unrealistic for her since she hadn't officially signed with any agency yet. A senior, who had become a small celebrity, introduced her for auditions; if successful, she could help her sign a contract. The role was for a small character in a costume drama with little screen time, but she ended up being rejected in the audition, deemed unsuitable. Wen Nuan didn’t mind; she planned to look for some print advertisements and was willing to take on small theater roles—anything would do, as long as she could earn some money. Tang Mandong had already lent her a large sum, and the rest she would have to rely on herself. For several consecutive days, she went for interviews at numerous companies, hoping to land print advertisements. These companies were all small advertising firms, and several friends with whom she had good relations introduced her. Wen Nuan was tall and slim, with a pure face that was easy to mold; she could portray a seductive persona or an innocent girl as needed. Things were initially going smoothly; there were a few offers that were close to signing, but ultimately they all fell through. Wen Nuan was not foolish; she knew someone was sabotaging her efforts, and apart from Fang Liucheng, she couldn't think of anyone else. After walking around all morning and hitting dead ends, Wen Nuan sat disheartened outside a square, eating the cheapest bread to stave off hunger. Old friends called one by one; besides Mandong, no one could help her. Even those willing to assist couldn't counter Fang Liucheng's interference. Feeling bitter inside, she maintained a smile. Wen Nuan was an optimistic and strong girl; her smile mirrored her name perfectly. Just as she was about to pack her things to try another advertising company, she suddenly saw an image flash on the large screen in the square: a luxurious room, a grand bed, and a woman lying on the bed half-naked, with long hair cascading like clouds. A butterfly tattoo on her shoulder was vividly highlighted in the close-up. It was a very short advertisement, only about ten seconds long, featuring close-ups of the half-naked woman, accompanied by beautiful music. In the end, four bottles of butterfly series perfume appeared on screen, with the only line being: “5203, I love you, come find me actively!” This was a beautiful perfume advertisement; the 5203 was from the Anning butterfly series for women, and with the butterfly on the woman’s shoulder plus such a line, it had a certain allure, enticing women to seek out the fragrance. Extremely emotional, it was undoubtedly a highly creative advertisement. However, Wen Nuan felt as if struck by lightning. That woman was clearly her. The advertisement unexpectedly included an introduction: “This is a commercial designed and filmed by Ye Feimo, president of Anning International Group, for the newly launched butterfly 5203 series perfume. Miss, do you still remember 5203?” Perhaps others didn’t know the meaning of the last line, but for Wen Nuan, it was like thunder crashing down. That person from that night was… Ye Feimo? “Wow, such a beautiful scene.” “That line is really touching!” “It doesn’t seem like an advertisement at all; it feels more like… a hint at something?” a woman whispered. “What does that woman have to do with the ad? Who shoots a perfume ad like this?” “Now that you mention it…” Wen Nuan’s mind went blank as she floated ghost-like toward the bus station.
