Chapter Two

1257 Words
Gabrielle He was disgusting. Everything about where I was disgusting. I missed my home. Sure there I had been little more than a prisoner there but it was the only home I had really known. It was still better than this. No that wasn’t exactly true. Not everyone here was disgusting Sarah and Harper were nice. Or at least they tried to be. I just didn’t know how to handle nice. I hadn’t had girlfriends for a very long time. But Diablo was disgusting and the things that went on , right out in the open was even more disgusting. Half the time I was sure he was just trying to get a rise out of me. And like a fool I bit every time. He hated me living in his club house and that was fine by me, I hated being there as wel. The sooner I could find a job and get away from them all the better. Alphas had run my life for too long. First my father and my brother. And then Dewi. The infamous welsh dragon had been given guardianship over me as punishment. I had been with Dewi for a long time. I had loved him for a long but he never saw me. And I became even more invisible as soon as he found his mate. Not that I hated Amelia, at the start sure but not now. She had been through to much . Even now I wasn’t sure if they had been reunited. Part of me hoped they had been though. And now my brother had given me over to the Sabers, to keep me safe. It was comical. I had been here a year, eating their food, sleeping in a small room in their clubhouse and I had hated every second of it. There was nothing big and bad coming after me. I was a shifter without her animal. And absolutely no threat. “You seem lost in thought?” I glanced up at Sarah. She might be Diablos sister but she was the total opposite to him in all ways. “Yeah.” I took her in , the foils in her hair as she sat in the hair dressers chair, tapping her nails idly. “I’m thinking I may need a make over.” I said finally. When was the last time I had a makeover. Had actually let myself feel like a woman? Sometimes before my eighteenth birthday…. Which was…. I grimaced more years ago than I cared to admit. Sarah clapped her hand together. “Do it, you deserve it.” I had to agree with her. Yeah I did deserve it. “I think I may need a job as well, so I can ….” “Move out of the club house.” Harper looked up from her magazine. “Yeah I can’t wait for our house to be ready.” She said wistfully and Sarah laughed. “So you and Jett can have even more loud s*x?” For a second Harper looked taken aback and then she winked. “You knows it. But hey… why doesn’t Gabrielle move in with you?” Sarah smiled. “That is actually a great idea. If you like the idea of course? It’s nothing special but it’s not full of stinky bikers…” she chuckled. “Well not all the time anyway.” Taken aback I stared at them. “You would be ok with that?” It was such a strange thing to have people being nice to me. That even after a year I wasn’t used to it. “I’ll just need to get a job and….” How was I meant to get a job, I had never had one before . Sure I had been training as a nurse when I was given to my old dragon master but I hadn’t qualified. The only thing I knew how to do was cook and clean. “Don’t worry about it Gabrielle.” Sarah waved her hand in front of her face. “It will be nice to have the company plus… your brother is very generous to mine . I’ll get some rent from them. In fact.” She pulled a small plastic card from her bag. “I think your brother can pay for your makeover.” She giggled. “And lunch afterward don’t you?” Harper whooped. “Girls day.” Girls day? I had never had one but it sounded fun. ”You look absolutely amazing.” Sarah said again from across the table. An open bottle of wine between us. Self consciously I touched my new shorter hair. It was such a drastic change that I couldn’t stop touching it. I didn’t not like it was just different. ”Yes Gabrielle.” She said softly as she opened up the menu. “I like it a lot. You look fantastic.” I had to admit I felt fantastic, they were right. What I needed was a change and a fresh start. I just hadn’t expected it to be so drastic. “The boys back at the club house are going to be all over you .” She giggled and I curled my lip. Which only made her laugh harder. “I think I’ll pass.” “Not even my brother?” She raised a slender eyebrow. “Definitely not him.” I said in a whisper. How could I explain it to them. I wasn’t interested in any man. The one man I had ever thought I had loved would never touch me. And I spent my nights listening to him making love to other women. And then when he had found his mate it had been even worse because I knew she wouldn’t leave like the rest. I would never put myself in that situation again. Especially for bikers who seemed to change bed partners more often than they changed underpants. They were all disgusting. “Maybe I read the s****l tension wrong.” Sarah shrugged again but her eyes were keen as she stared across the table. Even the thought of s****l tension between me and Diablo was comical. “So if getting laid isn’t high on your agenda with your new look, and for the record I think you are crazy not to. I mean all those alpha males under one roof … yum.” She licked her lips. “What is?” “Job.” I said simply. I didn’t want to rely on my brother or any other man any longer. “And what do you want to do?” Harper slipped into her seat. Tossing her phone on to the table. “I have absolutely no idea.” I admitted ruefully. “The only thing I can do is cook and clean?” “I’ve heard there’s a huge market for nude cleaners these days… like big bucks. I’ve been tempted to apply.” She laughed but I could do nothing but stare at her. I couldn’t actually tell if she was kidding or not. I hoped she was kidding. “Why don’t you start a catering business?” Harper’s voice was soft. “We could help you.” She seemed excited by the idea and I had to admit it was tempting. Being my own boss would be just another way I could solidify my independence. “It’s settled.” Sarah waved at a passing waiter pointing towards the still almost full bottle of wine with her finger. “So today Gabrielle you have had a make over, a new home and are going to start a business and all it took was my brother getting busy with some slag to get you to move your backside. So what’s next?” This had absolutely nothing to do with Diablo getting it on with anyone , I had seen that happen plenty of times in the last year. I was about to tell her that angrily but what came out of my mouth was . “I don’t know.” “We do.” The two women chorused together. “We celebrate.”
