Blurt Out

Selena Green looked him up and down, a sudden smile spreading across her face, just as a voice full of resentment came from behind her. "Darling, how come I didn't know you were married?" Selena's smile faltered, and she turned around with a hint of annoyance. "I'm about to divorce him, so it doesn't really matter." Henry Hunt was about to argue further when Selena pinched his waist hard, causing him to gasp in pain and fall silent. Charles Hall watched their familiar and even intimate interaction with a cold gaze, a hint of anger growing in his eyes. Selena tugged Henry toward the door. As they reached it, she glanced back at Charles's impassive face. "If you're too busy to handle the divorce papers, Mr. Hall, I can take care of it." "The sooner it's done, the sooner you and Miss Pearson can be official, right?" "Seems like Ms. Green is more worried about missing her chance to climb higher," Charles retorted. Henry opened his mouth to snap back, but a sharp look from Selena made him retreat, looking like a chastened spouse. Those who knew his reputation would have been shocked by his meek demeanor. "I got what I needed from Mr. Hall, and it's time to clean things up, isn't it?" Selena Green said with a bright smile, leaving with Henry Hunt without a backward glance. George Glenn was incredulous. "I can't believe Selena Green hooked up with Henry Hunt. Your ex-wife really knows how to keep things under wraps." The Hunt family was as prestigious as the Hall family. Although Henry didn't run the Hunt family business, he was favored by the family patriarch, known for his stubborn and domineering nature. Yet, he seemed so compliant around Selena. Robert Pearson, who had been silent, finally spoke up, sneering, "Ha, who knows what lowly tricks that woman used to seduce Henry? Women from such humble backgrounds are never any good!" "Robert, don't say that!" George warned with a frown. "I'm not slandering her! You didn't see how she was flaunting herself downstairs earlier—clearly not clean! We were all fooled by her before!" The thought of having been tempted by Selena, someone he had always looked down upon, made Robert increasingly angry, and his words grew more venomous. "You know, Charles, you should probably get checked out at the hospital. You don't want to catch something nasty!" Seeing Charles's face grow darker, Ruth finally spoke up to stop him, "Brother, my head hurts. Can you take me home?" Robert suddenly snapped back to reality, realizing what he'd just said, and felt a wave of regret. Even though Charles didn't care much about Selena, she still carried the title of Lady Lambert. His words were meant to smear Selena, but they also inadvertently disrespected Charles. "Sorry, Charles, I had too much to drink and spoke without thinking..." Charles gave him a long look. "Ruth isn't feeling well. You should take her home." Normally, Charles would have taken Ruth himself, but tonight he just didn't have the energy to face her. Ruth bit her lip, wanting to say something, but in the end, she lowered her eyes and stayed silent. After the siblings left, the others took the hint and gradually dispersed. Soon, only Charles and George were left in the room. "Don't take Robert's words to heart. You've been with Selena for three years; you know her better than he does!" Charles rubbed his temples, feeling the weight of the situation. "Help me look into Selena's background." The previous closeness and understanding between Selena and Henry were clearly not something developed overnight. As George had pointed out, Charles was confident that Selena hadn't been in contact with Henry during the past three years. The only explanation was that Selena knew Henry before she lost her memory. And tonight, her sudden change in behavior could only mean one thing—she had regained her memory. That's why she agreed to the divorce so decisively and withdrew all her feelings for him... Thinking about it, Charles felt a sharp pain deep in his heart. Inside the moving luxury car, Robert scolded Ruth with a stern expression, "If you're going to pretend, do it thoroughly. Don't you know Charles despises hypocrisy? Since he's already agreed to divorce Selena, why did you have to go out of your way to frame her?" Ruth pressed her lips together. "I can sense that Charles isn't completely indifferent to Selena." That's why she couldn't let any surprises happen. Robert chuckled angrily. "All because of your little hunch, things almost fell apart?" "Charles values gratitude. As long as he believes I saved his life back then, he won't betray me," Ruth said, lowering her gaze. "You better not slip up and let him find out the real savior was someone else," Robert warned coldly. "I know. He hasn't suspected anything all these years, has he?" Ruth lifted her eyes. "I don't want to see Selena in this city!" Thinking of Selena's stunning face, Robert gritted his teeth. "Don't worry. Once she leaves the Hall family, I'll take care of her for you. Instead of worrying about her, you should focus on winning Charles back!" Back at the hotel, under Henry's relentless questioning, Selena finally revealed her connection with Charles. "So, you fell head over heels for Charles Hall after he saved you, agreed to be his shield and marry him, and now that his 'first love' is back, you're supposed to step aside?" Henry's mouth twitched uncontrollably. Selena shot him a sideways glance, "Is that funny to you?" "No, not funny at all." Henry shook his head repeatedly, trying hard not to show his schadenfreude. Who would've thought Selena would have her day? She was always the one making others miserable, leaving them in regret. Was this karma? "So, how are you planning to get back at that jerk? Torture or dismemberment?" Selena rolled her eyes, "It's all settled now. As long as Charles doesn't bother me anymore, I couldn't care less." Henry looked disappointed, clicking his tongue twice. "Speaking of which, Charles is quite skilled and capable. If it weren't for his meddling mother, the Hall family would be much bigger." "And his judgment isn't great either, letting a golden phoenix like you go for a cuckoo from the Pearson family!" "Cuckoo?" Selena raised an eyebrow, "Is she some kind of fake heiress?" "Not many people know this," the voice continued. "Ruth was originally the child of the Pearson family’s butler. At birth, her mother deliberately swapped her with the real Pearson daughter. The true Pearson heiress was only recognized five years ago, but she mysteriously went mad and was sent to a foreign sanatorium. Since then, the Pearson family has kept her existence a secret." Selena pondered over this revelation. No wonder Charles's mom was so against him marrying Ruth. It wasn't just about her frail health. Suddenly, Selena narrowed her eyes. She almost forgot how much Mrs. Hall had made her life difficult over the years. In the scorching summer, she was made to run three blocks under the blazing sun to fetch jewelry for Mrs. Hall, only for it to never be worn. In the freezing winter, she trudged through snow to buy pastries, which were then fed to the dogs without a second glance... There were countless such incidents, and back then, blinded by love, she endured it all, hoping to keep the peace, only to be met with harsher treatment. Thinking about it now, she couldn't help but laugh in exasperation. She picked up her laptop and hacked into Martha's phone. What she found was quite intriguing. Looking at the information in her hands, Selena's lips curled into a sly smile. I wonder what Mrs. Hall would be willing to offer in exchange for these things? Suddenly, she stumbled upon a few photos on her phone, and her expression gradually turned icy. Just then, her phone rang. Seeing Mrs. Hall's name on the caller ID, she couldn't help but smile. Speak of the devil, and she shall appear.
