Chapter 50: Baseless Rumor

319 Words
The night was deep yet Isaac and Cloyd were still out, sneaking inside the Calithea’s Imperial Palace. “Your Grace, you shouldn’t have come here with me. It’s dangerous,” Cloyd said, low and deep. Their backs were against each other as they hid behind a pillar in a small palace chamber. They were in the infirmary where Lysanna’s body was placed. Everyone believed she was dead, drowned in the cold lake in the Rose Garden. Rumors were circulating that the man-made lake in the garden was cursed because it had taken two souls – Lady Melody and Lysanna. Thus, people started to avoid the garden, fearing they might be drowned and die. “I just want to see,” Isaac quietly responded. “To see what?” Cloyd said, giving him a quizzical look. “To see how far she can go,” he sighed. “Who? The princess or Lady Clemence?” he asked, since they were the only women aside from the duchess dowager who had gotten to manage to get close to her. “Your Grace, be alert. Someone was coming.” He went to another hidden corner, behind the pillars of the palace. Rustles in the bushes nearby were heard and just like what Cloyd had predicted, shadows of men clothed in black appeared simultaneously, heading straight to the empress’ hear dmaid's room. They were after Lysanna’s life. Whoever ordered her to completely finish off her life was desperate to hide the truth. Isaac grinned. ‘She’s getting clumsy,’ clicking his tongue, she ran swiftly close to the palace’s pillar that was before where Cloyd was standing. “Just like what she had predicted.” “Yup. Just like what I had predicted.” Isaac nearly gasped in surprise when the woman showed up suddenly behind him. “L-Lysanna? You’re….alive!” “I’m always alive, Your Grace.” She gave him a wry smile.
