CHAPTER TWELVE:SWEET BUT NOT SMOOTH

254 Words
Being something more than friends sounded simple in theory. In reality, it was… a little awkward. The next morning, Ethan saw Aisha from across the hallway and waved. She waved back—but instead of walking toward him like usual, she suddenly turned and pretended to be busy with her phone. Ethan blinked. “Ah-ah… what just happened?” Later, he finally caught up with her. “Why did you dodge me like that?” he asked. Aisha avoided his eyes. “I didn’t dodge you.” Ethan raised an eyebrow. “Aisha, abeg. No lie.” She laughed nervously. “Okay fine… it just feels weird.” “Weird how?” She hesitated. “Like… yesterday we were holding hands, today I don’t even know how to stand near you again.” Ethan burst out laughing. “So na me you dey fear now?” “Don’t start,” she said, trying not to smile. “I should be the one scared,” he teased. “You fit just disappear again.” Aisha rolled her eyes. “Please, I’m not that dramatic.” “Hmm,” he said, pretending to think. “We’ll see.” She lightly pushed his arm. “You’re annoying.” “And you like me,” he replied quickly. She paused… then shook her head with a small smile. “Maybe small.” Ethan grinned. “I’ll take it.” It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t smooth. But somehow, the awkwardness made everything feel more real. And maybe… even better.
