“Either of you two know what happened to the store back there?" The police officer asks casually, eyeing both of us under the street lamp.
“No, officer. We have no idea," Max says and I let him speak for the both of us. I don't want to lie to the officer and technically Max isn't lying, he really has no idea what happened. Mac continues to recount the events of the night, that he remembers, “all I remember was her ex-boyfriend harassing her, I tried to be a knight in shining armor and protect her but I ended up on my a*s, unconscious."
The officer looks over at me to corroborate the story. I nod along to show we are in agreement. The cop looks at me a little longer then says, “Charlie, right? Erin's kid?"
“Yeah, how do you know that?" I take a step back, worried, and touch my locket. Ei
