CHAPTER TEN: MEMORIES BRING BACK YOU

2233 Words
Sounds of several people's footsteps crushed the dry leaves on the ground in a very thick forest. A louder sound was coming from behind them. It was a big creature, growling, and determined to clear anything that comes its way. "What is that thing?!" One of the people running shouted. The one behind looked back to check what is this thing chasing them in the middle of the night. "I don't know!" He shouted. "Even with our speed, it is still catching up on us." "Let's go different ways." One of them suggested. "Protect Valor." The Valor is the head of the Vampire Clan. If he does, there won't be any hope for the clan. Three went to the right, and four to the left. The creature followed the ones that had passed the left. Their hearts race as they are almost out of breath, but ahead lies safety, they will soon get to their fort. Luckily for them, they got there before the beast could attack. The rest of the clan pressured the beast to turn back. They were putting up a fight that could have killed hundreds of them. But, they can't lose their heads to a mysterious beast. So, they played safe by not threatening the beast with a fight. It retreated back into the woods, and everyone was relieved. "I hope they will be safe." The Valor hoped. Dylan bumped into the inner room in The Pentagon House. Hugo was seated calmly, talking to Karen. "This is the third day we are having an attack by a murderous beast. Are you trying to alienate us as you have made us cover your dirt with the Snow-white Clan?" Dylan spouted not minding who he was talking to. He just wanted all these to be solved. Hugo and Karen watched as he ranted. Karen felt his pain, she had remembered when her mother had to fight off the Second Order of Witches when they raided her home in search of a book, her Mom was terrified, and let them search their house without a fight. The book is rumoured to have been written by Caesar, that was what was written in the story Alde always reads to Jarek. "I'm sorry, Dylan. We have been finding a way to stop this. I will call the remaining, and we will devise a plan to solve this." Hugo assured him.. Dylan's anger was suppressed after this. "Please, find something to do." Dylan said as he bowed down, and left Hugo's presence. Hugo and Karen watched him leave. After Dylan had left Hugo pressed about the matter brought on ground. They reasoned together, and came to the conclusion that they have to call the rest and solve this mystery once and for all. Few minutes later, Karen left The Pentagon, and went back home. Shortly after she had arrived, he saw Alde staggering into her house. She watched to verify if it was really Alde. Alde was naked, and Karen was stunned at the sight of what she was seeing, it looked as if she was dreaming, but knew quite well that she wasn't. She rushed to meet Alde, and prevented him from hitting his head on the photo frame of her and Alde while they were still young. Their smiles were all innocent in the photograph. Karen helped him on one of the couches in the mini sitting room. The mixture of fear and curiosity overwhelmed her. She remembered Dylan's outburst, and immediately took a note that he had been attacked by this beast. Alde was breathing heavily. "What went wrong?" Karen asked. Alde was still breathing heavily, but managed to let some words out. "What's happening to me?" Karen's curiosity level rose to the maximum. She was expecting Alde to tell her if he was attacked, but what is happening right now looks as if he had attacked someone while he was drunk -- "Alde doesn't drink." She thought. "He doesn't even get into fights." Anyone who had seen Karen would think she is starting to run mad. Karen picked his legs up, and placed Alde in a state of rest, hoping everything would be okay before morning. She checked the time, and it was 12:28AM. She stood up, went to the fridge, picked a bottle of water, and drank it aggressively. Alde was already asleep, but his heart was still beating fast. Karen held his hands, and sat on the floor beside him, looking at him passionately, and about to let tears flow from her face. She tried to hold the tears, but she wasn't good with holding them. As she shed the tears, she whispered. "I'm sorry I'm not catching you while you fall." She cried silently. It was morning, Alde slightly opening his eyes, as he opened his eyes he sniffed his nose, and stood up gradually. He saw Karen on the floor, sitting beside him. He saw he was clothed in his pyjamas, and he tried to recollect what had happened during the night, but his brain was still booting at the moment. He tapped Karen, and she woke up. "Hey Babe." She said, twisting her left eyes with her index finger. "What happened?" Alde asked. Karen hesitated, but thinks it is best if he knew what had happened yesterday. "You passed out." She said, "I did what?" "You passed out." Karen repeated. "Can you tell me in detail?" Alde pleaded. "First, you need to shower, and I'll prepare breakfast of bread and egg." Alde stood up and so did Karen. Alde went inside, and Karen went into the kitchen, she checked the fridge, and was glad there were two loaves of bread left. Alde entered the room, and saw the clothes he wore yesterday were torn, and inside the basket at the corner of the room. He picked up the clothes which had turned into a rag, he stared at the tattered clothes, trying to remember what had happened yesterday. Then pieces of his memory haunted him in daylight. "Please… Please… Please don't hurt me." A terrified young lady begged for her life. She was dragging her buttocks on the floor, running away from the beast. The husband of the lady ran with his vampire speed, but it was no match for the beast. He caught the man by his neck. The man was surprised, and at the same time frightened. "What are you?" He asked, making sure his voice was heard quite enough for the beast to hear. Not less than two seconds later, the beast crushed his neck, and the lady screamed for help. Her husband lay lifeless. Seeing her husband's body lying lifeless, she ran towards the beast, climbed on its back, using her claws to tear the beast neck. This made the beast angry enough to make sure she is torn to the best possible pieces. The beast held her hair, she struggled, but she looked really helpless. Her arm was separated from her body, and her head snapped out. She lay lifeless beside her dead husband. "No, No, No." Alde said regretfully. Karen had prepared breakfast, she was setting the table when she received a call. She checked the caller, and saw it was Hugo. "Hello One." She placed the phone on her shoulder, and used her head to support the phone from falling off her shoulder. "There is a problem" "What is it?" "Two vampires were found dead this morning. I think the beast attacked them." "Shit." Karen mumbled. "Come right away, and let's solve this." "Okay One" She dropped the phone on the dining table, and went into the room. She met Alde weeping terribly. She was in shock, crutched to meet Alde's eye. She placed her hands on Alde's laps, she tried to look through his eyes, but his hands were covering his eyes. "I killed two people." He mumbled amidst crying his eyes out. "What do you mean?" Karen asked, trying not to place puzzles on her thoughts. Alde lifted up his face, his eyes were red. He sniffed. "I killed two people yesterday." He repeated his words, and Karen watched him. She is left speechless, maybe she should scold him or pat him one his back, and tell him everything will be alright. She knew nothing would be alright. "You know what?" Alde down to Karen. "I have a meeting with the council. I will be back in no time." She assured him.. As she left she said, "Don't leave, and don't go anywhere." Alde nodded in agreement. She hurriedly left for The Pentagon. When she entered, Kyla, Edward, and Dylan were already there. "What is it you told me on the phone, One." Karen asked not greeting anyone. She wasn't seen as bad, even Dylan didn't say hi when he entered, and the rest are still in shock so they didn't even bother to let out a good morning greeting because they thought what was good in the morning? "Two vampires died yesterday." Hugo said, stretching out his hands with some photos in his hands. Karen collected the photos, glancing through it, and like the rest...she was left in shock. "The beast did this?" Karen asked just to be sure of what kind of information had gotten to her, and Alde, her beloveth claiming he had killed two people yesterday. "Yes, the killer is the beast, and this is the first kill. Don't know how many more would die in the hands of this beast!" Dylan screamed. Anger fuming in his eyes, he couldn't control his anger. "Damn! He looks the cutest when he is angry," Kyla thought, and her thoughts fought her back, "This isn't the time for this Kyla." She removed her stare from Dylan's face, and concentrated on Hugo who was confused, and angry as everyone else. Karen got back home, she felt emotionally stressed, and Alde can sense that. He had caused so much pain for her. Karen stared at Alde, asking him about how everything happened. He explained everything, and how he had chased some of the vamps into their territory. Karen asked him how he had become like that, but silence followed, then the sigh, "I don't know. I really wish I knew." He confessed, and Karen was kind of sure he was telling the truth. She doesn't want anyone butchering the love of her life because of something he can't control. Karen collected all the necessary information she needed from him, and she told him to give her some time, assuring him that all would be well. Few hours later. "Take this." Karen pointed a cup at Alde. "What is inside?" Alde asked suspiciously. "It will heal you." Karen lied. What Karen gave Alde was a portion to make him forget everything he ever had, everyone he ever knew, and people he ever loved alongside suppressing the demon beast that is in him. Karen never knew the source, but had collected Alde's blood enough for research. Alde drank what Karen gave to him. 1,2,3,4,5-- he fell asleep, and Karen helped him lay low on the bed. She stared at Alde for a very long time, and tears dripped down from her face...she wept bitterly. "This shouldn't be happening." She cried out. She reached out for her phone, and dialled a number. "Mistress" "Theresa, I need you to help me with something." Over the phone. "What is it, Mistress?" They discussed how Alde would live a better life somewhere else. Karen hates to see him suffer, she doesn't like him being burdened by anything. She shouldn't have told Alde about supernatural beings, she shouldn't have done all these terrible things. It is late, she will lose him to someone else, and at the thought of that, another round of tears found a way out of her eyes, forgetting she was still on the phone. "Mistress, are you crying?" That question jilted Karen as she sniffed trying to pretend everything was okay. "No, I'm not." "Are you sure about this?" "Yes, I am" She tried her best to keep her answers short, making sure her answers didn't trigger loving memories of her and Alde -- Too late… She travelled down her memory lane, and thought about when they first met -- At the thought of this, she wanted to have an outburst, but she kept it inside, tightly placing her hand on her mouth. Few days later, there was no sign of the killings, everyone was relieved, but Karen was secretly grieving -- she did her best hiding it as she laughed at every lame joke cracked between the council. Alde is gone, she stared at the photos they took together, picked up the hair clip Alde had bought for her on her birthday, now the tears aren't gushing out this time. It slowly made its way into her lips. She packed everything that can trigger memories into one big brown box, closed it, dropped it in a vacant room, and locked the door. She is trying to kill memories, but little did she know that memories can't be killed, they can only be placed in a coma. Few days later, something triggered her memory as the doctor told her she was 4weeks pregnant. She wept when she heard that. "Is this tears of joy or sadness?" She asked herself, kneeling down, and cried the more. "Alde…" She said quietly amidst tears.
