Chapter 7: Are You Kidding Me?

3670 Words
Lil's POV I was in front of Jasmine's doorway and saw her holding my phone. “Hey, did you have a good nap?” I asked, walking over to her. “Who is B.E.?” “What?” I was shocked that she asked that and had my phone in the first place. She flipped the phone, so I could see the screen. “Who is B.E.? They have been blowing up your phone,” Jazz stated. “Sorry it was going off like crazy, can I have my phone back?” I asked, holding my hand out. “They kept calling so I answered the phone. They said for me to tell you to call them back immediately.” She told me, still holding my phone. I was shocked that she answered the phone. We both have a rule that we don’t answer each other’s phones unless it is our parents or siblings. I couldn’t believe she broke that rule. “He is a co-worker. Also, why would you answer my phone if it was no one you knew? We both agreed to never answer each other’s phones unless it was our parents or siblings.” “It kept going off, and it was annoying me, so I answered to make it stop. Also, I thought I knew all your coworkers?” She said, pissed off at me, still holding my phone. “I live with only 3 of my coworkers. I have over a thousand coworkers, so no, you don't know them all. Also, why are you acting like this?” I was so shocked by her and also starting to get worried. “Whatever my head hurts, and I need some food,” she said, getting off the bed and passing me my phone. She continued walking and walked out of the room and downstairs. I rolled my eyes at how she was acting and just walked away. I stood there, shocked for a moment before going downstairs and outside. I sat on the hood of my car to make the call to B.E., which stood for Boss Erik. I knew this call would suck, but I may as well get it over with. I called Erik, and he picked up the third ring. ‘Hello’ "Hello sir. I’m sorry to have missed your call and also sorry that someone not authorized answered my phone when you called." I was trying to sweet talk it, so I wouldn't be in trouble. Though he really liked me, so I wouldn't have to sweet-talk him a lot. ‘Thank you for apologizing. I was calling to see if you had spoken with Matt yet.’ "Yes, I have spoken to him." ‘Good. I know you were probably not happy about getting a high-risk assignment, but you are the only one we have that can do the job.' "Well, to be honest sir, I was very pissed when I got the news." ‘Watch your language and tone with me.’ "Sorry I spoke without thinking." He is on edge. That's not good. "Sir, are you sure that no one else could have taken this assignment? I really don’t like going into the field with high-risk assignments." ‘I spoke to Zaxen in operation dispatch and to Hannah in specialist placement to be sure and they both said that only you meet all the parameters for the assignment.’ I sighed, "I see Sir. May I ask for some information on what this assignment is?" ‘Thank you for understanding the seriousness of the mission, Lillian, and since it is high risk, you will be paid extra. As for now, the nature of this mission is still in action with a couple of teams, so things are still fluid.’ "Thank you, Sir, for the extra pay. Did you say this mission is still in motion with a few teams?" I was confused and worried that they were still trying even though they were calling me in. ‘Yes, about 5 teams are currently trying to complete this mission before bringing in your team.' We are definitely going to lose a lot of agents. SLAM! I jumped and looked up to see a really pissed-off Aaron storming outside. "s**t. Sir, pardon my language, but I will have to call you back. Have a wonderful evening sir." ‘Don’t you hang up on me.’ He yelled at me. "Sir, I am now in earshot of unauthorized personal, so I can’t continue this phone call," I said politely and as fast as possible. ‘Very well.’ With that he hung up. I jumped off my hood and put my phone in my back pocket. I ran over to Aaron to check on him and what was going on. “You, okay?” I asked him. “NO!” Aaron was close to losing his cool. “Do you...” “Please stay back,” Aaron said, stepping several feet away and holding a hand up to stop me from getting close. He turned, so his back was facing me. “Okay. Do you want to talk about it?” “No.” He grunted out and was breathing fast. “Can I do anything to help?” “Ha not sure you want to offer that.” He laughed out, but it was a dry laugh. He looked terrible and close to losing it. “I am serious Aaron, is there anything I can do to help?” I really did want to help if I could. He whispered something but I didn’t hear it. “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” He turned around and faced me, taking a deep breath. “A hug.” He said clearly this time. “You want a hug?” I was shocked. “Forget it,” he said, breathing heavily and clenching his jaw. It was just a hug and if it helped I wouldn't mind. I walked over to him and hugged him. At first, he tensed up from me hugging him, but he relaxed and turned into my hug and bent down, putting his head on the top of my head. He gave me a squeeze, “Thank you” he whispered to me. “You’re welcome.” I was happy the hug seemed to help. Because his breathing had slowed down and returned to normal. After a while, he started to loosen his grip on me. I lifted my head to rest my chin on his chest. “Feeling better?” He seemed to have really calmed down. “Yes. Thank you.” “You’re welcome,” I smiled. "I’m glad it helped calm you down. You looked like you were about to lose it.” We were still in a hugging position, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. “Well, I was close to losing it in a bad way.” I was confused about what he meant by that. He released me and I looked at him now calm and collected. I was now curious about what triggered it. “What caused you to get like that?” He looked nervous, “Well, the four of us were talking with each other when Jasmine came into the kitchen in a bitchy mood. She said some snarky remark that wasn’t called for and we each said something to her, and it blew up into a whole thing. I was starting to lose it, so I came out here to calm down. I didn’t know you were out here." “Good to know she wasn’t acting that way with just me and, yeah, I came out here to call into work since my boss had called me several times.” “What did she do or say to you?” “We both have a rule that neither one will answer the other's phone unless it’s our parents or siblings, yet she answered my phone, and it was my boss calling me. She didn’t know it was my boss and thought I was hiding something from her. She blew up on me, and it seemed like she was starting to have one of her episodes.” “Did you get in trouble with your boss?” he asked, wide-eyed because of what I had told him. “Thankfully, no, I was able to smooth things out for the most part.” “That’s good that you didn’t get in trouble.” Just then, the patio door opened. “Hey, why is Jasmine in such a bitchy mood?” Damien asked from the open patio door. “How should I know?” Aaron replied. “You were with her all day. So, you should know.” Damien now asked me. “No idea what is wrong. She woke up from her nap in this kind of mood.” “Did she take something?” “I doubt it because we were drinking the same thing, so if something was put in the drinks it would affect me too.” “What if she took something when you weren't around?” Aaron asked. "You mentioned it looked like she was having an episode. What do those look like?" The moment he said that I was running inside to Jazz, f**k! I should have realized sooner that was what was happening. When I got inside, they were in the living room. “Jasmine, you need to calm down,” Marcus told her calmly. “No don’t tell me to calm down!” She shouted at Marcus. I took a few steps towards her. “Jazz, you need to take some calming breaths. You’re not acting like yourself.” “Don’t tell me you are taking their side in this?” Jazz spit at me with so much anger I was shocked. “I am on no one’s side here, since I don’t know what you are talking about. I'm just worried about you,” I stated, walking slower to Jazz. She got in my face. “So you are on my side then? “Well…” I stopped mid-sentence when I looked into Jazz’s eyes, and they were not her normal blue-green eyes. “Girl, why are your eyes silver?” I was very confused, and a little freaked out. I had never seen her eyes change color before. “They do that when I am emotional. Now whose side are you on?” Jazz asked me like it was normal thing for eyes to change color. I looked around the room for assistance from the guys, and they looked worried and freaked out even more than I was. I knew now that she was having an episode, but normally, when she had them it would be at her place and her mom would throw some kind of powder in her face, and it would bring her back. I don’t have that, so I was trying to think of something that would work. I will worry about the eye thing later. “Jasmine, why don’t you go upstairs and calm down,” Luka told her calmly, but when I looked at Luka it seemed he was trying to tell her something with his eyes. “I AM CALM!” Jazz shouted at him. At that moment, an idea came to me, and it was a bad idea, but it should work. “Jazz!” I yelled at her and started to walk toward her. “What!” she yelled back at me. “I’m sorry girl.” With that being said, I b***h slapped my best friend as hard as I could. “f**k!” “Holy Hell!” “Why did you hit her?” Luka asked me, pissed off. “It actually hurt me to hit her like that. Also, she was having an episode. You’re her cousin. How did you not figure that out?” I said to him while shaking my hand. I didn’t hold back on that slap. So, it did actually hurt me. “Ouch.” Jazz groaned. I looked at Marcus, who had not moved, staring at me stunned. “Can you get her an ice pack?” He didn’t respond but did head to the kitchen. He came back and handed me the ice pack. I bent down and passed it to Jazz, “How are you feeling?” “Well, my cheek hurts like hell. Why did you hit me so hard?” Jazz asked. “Well, you were being a b***h, so I slapped you.” I laughed and Jazz laughed back, realizing what had happened. “Wait time out here,” Luka said to us. We both looked at him. “Why is she acting normal after you slapped her?” I looked at Jazz. “He is your cousin and doesn’t know?” “My mom and dad keep it under wraps so only you, your parents and sister know.” Well, s**t I didn’t know that. “Oh.” “Hello ladies, Some answers please,” Damien said. I helped Jazz get off the floor and helped her sit on the couch. “May I tell them girl, it's your life and your secret?” I asked Jazz. “Go for it,” she said, putting the ice pack on her cheek. “Well, I don’t know what brings them on or why she has them, but this is the worst one I have seen,” I said, looking at Jazz. I turned to the guys who were now all standing with their arms crossed across their chests. “So, from time to time, Jazz will have what her parents call episodes and when they happen, she no longer has control of her actions or emotions, she just does what feels right at that moment. Which is usually not the right thing. Normally, her mom would blow this powder-like stuff in her face, and it would daze her, but she would come out of her episode. Since I don’t have any of that or even know if Jazz had any on her,” I turned to look at Jazz. “It's upstairs in a pouch in the nightstand drawer,” she told everyone. “At least she does have some encase she has another, but hopefully she won’t. Like I said, though I didn’t have that, so I did what I thought would work. So yes, I slapped my best friend and TA-DA she is back to her normal self.” I finished telling them. “Why didn’t your parents tell anyone, Jasmine?” Luka asked. “I don’t know,” Jazz told him, looking at him sad and embarrassed. “Well, this is beyond odd. I thought you were acting like that because it was your time of the month,” Marcus said. Jazz and I both turned to look at him, pissed off. “Girl go slap him next,” Jazz told me. “One, I am not slapping anyone else tonight,” I told Jazz, pointing at her. “Second, that was very rude to say not all women act emotionally on their cycles.” I said, now pointing at Marcus. “Sorry” “Are you at least feeling better, Jasmine?” Damien asked. “I will be okay just going to hurt, for a little and maybe have a bruise,” Jazz said, “Have you been working out girl? Because that was one hell of a slap. Last time you slapped me for being a b***h it was strong but not like today,” she said to me. “Yeah, I have been hitting the gym with the guys more and also got Amber to work out as well,” I replied. “You hit Chelsea yet like that?” She said with a knowing smirk. “Sadly no. I will call you if I do.” “Good”, she laughed. “Our lives are really weird”, Aaron said, plopping down on the couch. “Better they be weird than boring,” I added. “Good point girl.” Jazz agreed with me.“So, what is for dinner? I'm starving,” Jazz added. I laughed at her for changing the subject to food, then plopped down on the couch next to her. “Oh, how about Italian?” Aaron asked. “I love Italian food. It's is my favorite,” I said with a huge smile. “Then it’s your lucky day. Damien’s family is Italian, so he can make that kind of food easily,” Luka said. “Really I got volunteered for cooking duty?” Damien didn’t look happy. “Damien, if you get in there and make this food for Lil here, she will be the happiest woman on the planet.” Jazz knew how I get about good food which can be childlike, but she is not wrong. Homemade Italian food would make me happy. “If it will make you happy, Lil, then I will cook some food. Though I will need some help,” he said while turning to look at Marcus. “Why me?” Damien went over and hugged Marcus. “Because I like getting to cook with you,” he told him, looking at him lovingly. It was then I noticed that the four of them seemed to be really close. ‘Why are all the hot ones gay?’ I thought to myself. “Fine, I will cook with you.” He gave Damien a smile and a sideways hug. “Thank you” Damien said to him, hugging him tighter. “You two are on clean-up duty,” Marcus told the other two guys, who groaned. “Can you all cook?” I was curious. They all turned to look at me shocked. Clearly, they forgot I was in the room. “Yes” “Yeah” “Mom required me to learn.” “I prefer to bake rather than cook.” “Oh, wow, okay well, that is cool that you can all cook. Saves Jazz here from cooking since she can’t cook to save her life,” I said, throwing my arm over her shoulder. “Your no better.” “Hey, I will have you know I took cooking classes. I am not great, but I can cook, but I am still better at baking.” “You took classes.” She was shocked. “Yes, I took them with Amber. Who still can’t cook?” I laughed. “But in all seriousness, it is nice that you guys can cook,” Jazz said, smiling at them. They still seemed freaked out and were staring at me. I noticed that Damien and Marcus were no longer hugging each other either. “Guys, I’m not going to judge,” I told them. “It’s true she won’t.” Jazz defended me. “Really…you won’t,” Aaron asked. “No, I don’t judge. As long as you are happy, that’s all that matters. "So, if you want to hug each other or kiss, I have no problem with that,” I told them with a smile. “ Though I do admit it kind of sucks, you can all cook and your gay.” I added. Jazz started laughing really hard at that to where she was in my lap laughing. “What did I say?” I was so confused. “Why does it suck that we can cook and are gay?” Luka asked with an arched eyebrow. Jazz covered my mouth. “Girl, think before you speak.” I nodded my head, and she sat up, no longer laughing. “Personally, I think it is hot when a guy can cook. So that’s the main reason.” “Really? Wait, you said the main reason. What is the other reason?” Damien asked. I noticed they were all really listening and staring at me. “Well, you four are hot, but you're gay. That’s the other reason.” Jazz at that moment slapped her hand on her forehead while shaking her head. I looked away from her and all the guys were smiling or smirking. “You find us attractive?” Marcus asked with a smirk. “Yes,” I answered hesitantly. They all continued to grin. “What am I missing?” I whispered to Jazz. She was covering her face, “Girl, they are not gay…well they are, and they aren’t.” “What?” I quickly looked up at them. “We are together, yes, but we still like women too,” Aaron stated. I stared at them wide-eyed and knew I was blushing hard. I just admitted I find them attractive, and they are not gay, they are bi. “Oh.” I responded meekly, looking away. I just admitted that to them and I have to spend the night under the same roof as them. This just got very awkward for me. The guys all chuckled at me, while I was also covering my face. “Let’s get to cooking,” Damien said, while walking to the kitchen with Marcus, since I heard two sets of feet walking. “Bet you wish the earth could swallow you.” Jazz whispered to me while leaning on me. I moved my hands off my face and turned to look at her. She was trying not to laugh. “What do you think?” I said flatly. “I’m thinking yes,” Luka answered. I looked up at him, but he and Aaron were both sitting on the couch outright smiling. “I am going upstairs.” I said while getting up fast and making a B-line for the stairs with Jazz hot on my tail. “We are not talking about it,” is all I said to her. “Okay, but we will be talking about relationships though,” she told me with finality. “Ugh” I groaned while face planting on to her bed.
