"What are you?"

"I can be your most beautiful dream or your worst f*****g nightmare."

~~~~~•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•~~~~~
Carlene lives a normal life until she goes to a beach party one night.
Two teenagers drowned mysterious, only to never be found again. On that same night, she thought she saw something above the water, far away from her. But she couldn't say what it was in the dark of the night, just saw a tail dive back into the ocean.
Since then, Carlene would hear a humming from the water whenever she slept. Humming of a beautiful male voice which she had never heard.
And then next Monday, three new boys roll in, almost in the middle of the semester. They are tall, handsome and have mysteriously alluring eyes. And not to forget their hypnotic voices.
They are passive and intimidating, no one ever messed with them.
And then one day, one of those three new boys, sang in the auditorium. Every single one was captured by his voice. A voice so out of this planet, so alluring. And he looked at Carlene. He wanted her, for what? No one knew. But he was going to get her.
Rules. The strings of sentences that everything and everyone must follow, one way or the other. The humans have had bound themselves to the rules they have created for peace and harmony among themselves. Or that was what they believed. They have been scared that something might go out of their way, and if that happens to happen it was something that couldn't be dealt with. Even the wildest of the craziest rule breakers follow the 'no rules' rule. And so did the nature. The myths that followed us were not always the bed time stories that could be told to a child for colorful and happy dreams. Myths can sometimes happen to be the one thing we would pray for not to come true, especially when they have been altered drastically. And then there are those myths that were forgotten to be never known to the human ever again. Except for some, who had experienced the untold stories coming to life before them just to become a dreadful nightmare that had emotionally scarred them forever. And then there were times when a new history had been written even when no one else knew about it, other than us. That was something that had happened to me. The history changing moment had chosen me to be a part of it but I didn't know. The locker clicked close beside me while I flipped through the books in my hand. "It should be here somewhere..." I was mumbling to myself which was a really bad habit of mine. My mom had scolded me on numerous occasions about talking to myself. She thought that it made me look like I was crazy, not that I cared about, because I knew that I was crazy. "Did you find it yet?" Lavinia asked in an impatient tone. She was never the patient one. Lavinia Margrit, a quirky red head with a huge nerdy glasses was my best friend. Anyone who looked at her demeanor, anticipated that she was a shy girl with a lots of knowledge stored up in that pretty little head of hers but that was until she opened her mouth. She was feisty, hot headed, bold with lack of knowledge on every given topic and a bit of slow too. Even if Ian Somerhalder paid a visit to our school, she would probably never know about it. But she was also super sweet and fun on the inside when someone broke through her outer walls and faced the real her, and I accepted my friend the way she was. I would want to change nothing about her. "Not yet... Guess I have kept it in the other book," I passed her the book that I had been search through and started to flip the pages of the other book. I stopped when a slip fell out of it and landed a foot from me on the floor. "Told you I would find it!" I grinned at Lavinia making her roll her eyes before sighing in relief. I didn't waste any time picking it up. "I would have killed you if you had lost it," she repeated the same dialogue that she had been repeating since morning. "Gosh, Chill Vini! I have it now! So don't go all hulk on me," I chuckled trying to lighten up the atmosphere. I had no doubt that she would have killed me without a second thought if situation was opposite, after all, she had been patiently waiting for this the entire week. And where patience wasn't a strong virtue of hers. "Carlene! You coming tonight?" Mitch asked as he passed by us. "Yup, planning to," I smiled with a nod. "Great see you there!" He added walking away. Lavinia didn't comment as she was busy browsing through her mobile and I strongly suspected that she was confirming the location. I put my books back into the locker and took out my bag. Not able to hold onto my curiosity any longer, I peeped over her shoulder at her phone. Yup, definitely rechecking the location. "Check the date on the ticket. It's tonight right?" She commanded without giving me a glance which indeed made me roll my eyes, "you just heard Mitch confirming it that it is tonight!" "Blah blah. It is always safe to reconfirm," she switched to home page and closed the app. "If you did this much of hardwork for your studies, you would be the topper," I retorted slinging my bag on my shoulder. The school had just finished and the hallway was completely crowded. "Shut up, will you?" She was annoyed already. So I dropped the topic and started thinking about the event that had Lavinia so hyped up. It was a beach party. Not just any regular beach party but The Louis Herring's beach party! He was the rising sensational popstar, who was hardly in the school because most of the time he was busy recording at the studio. They had distributed tickets for this party, to cut down the crowd that could crash in. And it wasn't even surprising when all the tickets were sold out within fraction of minutes. After all, everyone wanted to bump into Louis for once in their lifetime, personally. The way back home was in blur as my mind had been occupied by the thought of what to wear for the party. My closet options weren't so great to choose from. I would have asked mom about it if she hadn't been out working her life out with two different jobs. My mother was a cashier at a local twenty four-seven restaurant. She did her morning shifts but in the night, she did another job which frequently kept changing. And I had been used to her schedule and then there was my dad. I didn't know what he did or even where in the world he was. Yup, my parents got separated even before I was born. The reason? I was never told, nor did I ever ask. My mom's younger brother, my uncle, who had been living with us and helping my mother to raise me got his scholarship and flew off to Germany to graduate from University. My grandparents had passed away a long time ago. That was pretty much my entire family. And I stared at the clothing thinking about my remaining members of family. Who could be counted in fingers. "I'm not going to go anywhere at this rate!" I groaned to myself and fell back on my bed. Staring at the ceiling looked less frustrating at the moment and that was what I did. If only I hadn't used all the clothing I had, I wouldn't have been in such a frustrating position. Just like a memory being triggered in my head, a faint glimpse of a neatly packed box flashed before my eyes. Yup! That's it! How could I forget about that? I scurried to my feet and ran towards the other side of my bed. Kneeling down, I pulled out a box that was coated with a thick layer of dust. I coughed after I blew the dust away, revealing a famous brand name embedded over the cover. Carefully opening the box so that the dust didn't fall inside and ruin the clothing, I stared at the lilac bodice with a pearl neckline. It was a halter dress that ended just above my knees. I had kept it aside for an occasion like this and I was glad that I did! "Guess, you aren't as hopeless as you thought!" I told my reflection as I held the dress before me and looked that it didn't look bad at all! "Right... Time to get ready before Lavinia decides to go all Ninja on me." °•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•° The flashy orange and yellow lights coming out of the beach house was absolutely beautiful. I could see people dancing around to the loud music blaring through the speakers. And a chattering of huge crowd restrained out for lacking a ticket, still hoping to be let in somehow, eventually. Distantly, I could also hear the splashing of waves on the beach. The air was moist and salty, making me glad to choose a dress over my regular jeans. "I didn't know we came here to stand and stare at his house the whole night," Lavinia's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. She had a pout over her lips. The red corset top and black skirt looked brilliant on her. "Oh right, let's go," I didn't have to tell her twice before she shrieked like a five year old and sprung her way towards the door. I followed her chuckling silently. Just as I had expected, Lavinia showed up at my house right after a minute I had finished getting ready. She didn't even let me select another pair of shoes before dragging me out in my white canvas. Oh yes, I was at a party in a lilac halter with a pair of canvas! Just great! I was thankful that she atleast let me leave a note to my mother, not that she already knew it. I had been talking about it repeatedly for three days now. Hush! It was a secret! I may act all cool regarding this party but I was secretly super excited. And the only thing my mom said was, "don't get drunk. I do that want to see behind the bars or in the emergency ward. Do you get it?" And I got it pretty well too. My mother could be really scary when she wanted to be. It was a bit difficult to move through the swarming crowd but we eventually we made it, thanks to Lavinia's hot temperedness. If that was even a word... The bouncer outside looked at out tickets before opening the door. I could feel so many of them staring enviously at our backs at the moment. The inside of the house was already filled with people moving their bodies to the rhythm of the beats. The air was hotter inside and the music deafening. "Let's grab a drink by the bar and then hunt down our host for the night!" Lavinia shouted over the music and started squeezing her way towards the bartender who was juggling bottles. I followed suit but not without observing the house. The ceiling was high and there was a skylight above. The walls were white and so was the expensive looking furniture. The balcony to the for floor opened up inside the house. The wall facing the beach was made up of glass and crystal chandelier hung in the middle of the ceiling. I stopped beside Lavinia, who happened to have ordered a drink for me too, "Lene! You must try this! Sean says that this is the best drink he makes!" The bartender looked at me smugly before he headed to attend another person. She passed me a reddish looking drink with a frizz. I didn't know if I should drink it. I had a bad feeling about it. "Don't think, just drink! It's not that bad!" Lavinia rolled her eyes. I just shook the feeling. It was just a drink. The popstar would not be so irresponsible to give alcoholic drinks to high schoolers, right? After all it could affect his reputation if something went wrong... I ignored the hesitation bubbling inside my stomach and drowned the liquid in one go. The incomplete taste felt my mouth with slight bitterness. I knew it immediately that it was alcoholic but not strong enough. "Lavinia! What did you order?" I was annoyed. This girl was so irresponsible. "Don't know, don't care. I like it and I drank it!" She drowned another glass of the drink before I could stop her. She had already drank two cups before, it wouldn't take much to intoxicate her as we were regular drinkers. "Great! Not two minutes in this place and you are already drunk!" "No! I am not!" She giggled making me roll my eyes and pull her away from the bar towards the backdoor which let out to the beach. Maybe some fresh air would do us good and sober us up enough. "Come on Lavinia, let's sober you up." She giggled, "I am sober!" "Yeah, and I am Angelina Jolie," I rolled my eyes.Rules.
