ALINA’S POV
I made a mistake, a terrible one. I shouldn’t have lost my composure the moment I scented him. Or the second my eyes landed on the pool of his dark ones. But what else was I supposed to do?
I walked in here for a job interview, hopeful to finally find a job to support Yulia. She had been footing our bills while I’d been nothing but a burden.
Apparently, a cook was accepted everywhere. The only thing I was good for was healing. And apparently, there were no jobs for us in the human world, not when we were constantly being hunted.
But seeing him, my second-chance mate had wrecked my entire composure.
I always knew it was coming. After a witch helped me sever my mate bond with Marcel three months ago, when he refused to accept my rejection and kept my wolf in pain. Maybe he was still expecting I would get back to him.
I knew there was a big chance of me finding my
second mate, but not him…anyone but Alpha Draven, my pack's biggest rival. The same man mothers warned their young girls to stay away from.
I’ve heard enough stories about him already. It’s scary enough to keep me awake the entire night. Even rumors that the alpha king himself does not dare to cross Alpha Draven. Apparently, his wolf, Soren, was berserk. And the moon goddess just had to make us mates.
It was foolish of me to come here without doing research on who ran the facility. At least, then, I could have prepared myself well enough to face him if I knew he was the CEO and Kade’s alpha.
Draven had rejected our bond between us instantly, and for some reason that hurt.
And now sitting here, hearing him talk to the child on the phone so sweetly made me clench my fist in rage. And worse, I even heard her call him daddy so clearly, and I could not help the burning sensation that filled my chest instantly.
My mind flashed back to Marcel, and all the pain he caused me. And for some reason, this hurt more than walking in on Marcel f*****g Nate.
I could hear his conversation clearly from over here with my wolf hearing. The way his daughter begged to come and live with him in the human realm alongside her mother, but he rejected them.
I had no idea Alpha Draven had a family, but then again, I barely knew anything about him except for the tales spun around his wolf and how he became the alpha.
But from what I could observe, he seemed nothing more than a deadbeat scumbag dad to me.
‘He had a wife and child back at the wolf realm, yet he stayed here in the human world. And it was not hard to see why,’ I thought in disgust, feeling anger pour through my veins.
I already had my fill with a cheating mate, and I definitely did not need another one in my life, ever again, it was painful enough the first time.
The moment he ended the call, and walked back towards where I was seated, I wasted no time, having already made up my mind.
I stood up, my bag in my hands as I gave him a sickeningly sweet smile.
“It seems you already have a family Alpha Draven,” I muttered, not giving him any time to defend himself. I doubted he'd want to either way with how he treated me earlier. So I continued, knowing this was the best option for both of us.
“Since you have a family, it’s best if we perform the
rejection ritual and break the bond.
Let’s not keep ourselves tied down,” I said with finality in my voice.
His face flashed for a second, pausing with a puzzled look. He was definitely shocked that I dared to speak back to a man like him, knowing others in my position would never miss this opportunity.
His lips tugged up, but not in a smile. Rather into a sharp and cruel smirk as he observed me.
“For a moment there, I thought Zane had birthed a fool for a child,” he spat darkly.
“But you running away from your pack, only told me there was more to you, than being a fool,” he continued, his voice thick. And that was enough to send shivers down my spine and towards my core making my slut of a wolf purr in pleasure.
‘Weak b***h,’ I hissed, definitely not ignoring the mockery and insult in his tone.
“It’s good to know you are not delusional thinking that this could work between us.
Okay, then, carry on and reject me. It will hurt you less if you initiate it,” he spat, not hiding the satisfaction in his tone.
My gaze hardened at his words, not knowing what to expect. Straightening my spine, I clenched my hands into a fist as I spoke.
“I Alina Tarius of the Greenlake pack reject you
Alpha Draven as my fated mate,” the words slipped out of my lips bitterly as a sharp pain cut across my chest, one worse than the one I felt when I rejected Marcel.
Draven’s face twisted, but he was strong enough to ignore his pain.
And then, he parted his lips and I knew it was to accept my rejection, “I Alpha Draven of the Silverwood’s pack a…”
He paused, an eerily dark growl slipping out of his lips as his face darkened.
A frown settled on my face when he did not continue instantly. “What happened? Cat cut your tongue? Accept my rejection, Draven,” I hissed in annoyance, pushing him.
I watched as he shook his head, his eyes flashed blood red for a second, and I thought I imagined it.
A thick and painful groan slipped out of his lips, as tension curled in his shoulders.
His nose flared, his chest rising and falling unevenly. “I Alpha Draven of the Silverwood’s pack…”
He could barely get the words out before he paused again, and this time, anger poured in my veins wondering if he was playing with me.
I knew what would happen if the other partner did not accept the rejection. I had experienced it once, and I’ll die before I do again.
“Accept the rejection for Selene’s sake! Reject me,” I growled loudly in rage, already done with his dumb games.
But I regretted my words that instant, when I watched the way his entire face darkened.
His eyes switched from black to lifeless red glowing eyes…and his hands, thick dark furs the color of black sprouted around his body, and his fingers…they sharpened into claws.
Fear paralyzed me, watching him transform into a huge black wolf before my eyes. My lungs tightened so hard that I could barely breathe, and I did the one thing I could. I dashed towards the door in panic and fear.
But that was a huge mistake, I should have known that outrunning an alpha male was useless. Because the next second, Draven pounced on me and I landed on the ground with a painful thud.
He roared in rage, his eyes wide and feral, as those sharp teeth dove straight towards my neck to mark me.
