Chapter 9

Bear POV

I think I shocked my mate when I flipped over her, kicking her in the head. I didn't mean to kick her that hard, but damn, she was kicking my ass. How else could I impress her? When I landed on my feet, she asked me how I did it. Then I told her, and she liked what I did. I was impressed

“You can also impress her by telling her the truth that you are mates. But you keep putting it off. You are going to push her away, and then she won’t help you.”

“I know this, Ash. I'm trying to lead up to it. Though I think she already knows you're right. I'm going to need to tell her and then tell her the real story about how I got banished from the pack.”

“You're not a bad guy, Bear. You just did something stupid. You ate the food he made for you. That was a stupid mistake. I told you you couldn't trust him, but you did.”

“If you're done talking to your wolf, we are now done. Care to sit with me and talk.” s**t, now I know I need to tell her. How am I going to tell her that we are mates and I've been wearing a cloaking necklace so she wouldn’t know? I sat beside her on the bench, picking up a bottle of water and drinking it down. Okay, this is now or never. If she decides she doesn't want to help me, then so be it. I'll leave and do it myself.

“Listen Tori, we need to talk.” Before I started, I took off the necklace, putting it in my pocket so she would know I was telling the truth. She can now scent me and know we are mates.

“I've been hiding something from you, and I'm truly sorry. I wanted to be stronger and get my title back before I told you, but I just can't hide it anymore. I think you already know what I am talking about. We are mates,” she started laughing, then said to me.

“Yeah, I already knew that. That cloaking thing doesn't work on me, and neither can wolfbane or silver. What made you decide to tell me the truth? Is everything else a lie, or was it the truth?”

“Everything I have told you is the truth. I did eat my uncle's food that he made me. Ash told me not to trust him. I thought I could, but I was wrong. Also, he didn't put me in the middle of the woods at first. He put me in the cells for a few years, feeding me wolfbane to weaken and kill my wolf. But when he didn't know I was building a tolerance for it, my wolf Ash was as well. There was once he fed me silver. That's when I passed out, then found myself in the middle of the woods with nothing but the shorts I was wearing and the ripped-up shirt I had on. I was dirty and smelly, and I was hungry. When I tried to go home, even the guards didn’t know who I was at first. They ran me off. I got odd jobs and stayed in hotels so I could shower and shave, and have food. That's when I went back when the guards realized who they chased off. They were sorrowful. They told me that they would do anything that could to get me any information I needed. I haven't been back for several months now. I know I need to get back and see if everything is okay.

“Let me know when you do. I want to go with you. My sister would want to as well; she just needs to get to know you, that's all. But once we get the information and see what we can do, my family will need to know what's going on. I can't keep this from them; we go to battle as a family.”

So, when are we heading out to see what's going on?” We both looked up at Rachel. I didn't even know when she walked up to us. She was standing there like she had been there the whole time.

"Don't think I'm going to take it easy on you just because you're my sister's mate. I still don't trust you. But I will say that you can fight. How did you flip like that and kick my sister in the head?

It's not easy, but once you get it, you will be able to do it all the time. It's fun when you're beating your enemy.

“One more thing, Bear. You're going to find out sooner or later, but Mercury, the man you mentioned that kicked your uncle's ass a time or two, well, he is our dad. He is or was the king of the mafia before he gave the title to our brother Isaiah." Wait, what in the world did she just say? Mercury Black is her dad. Oh, that's badass. I could learn a lot from him. I could ask her what she thinks of that, but I need to think about it first. What if when he finds out who I am, he will kick my ass and then kill me?

“Hey, your face is as white as a ghost. Are you okay? Are you going to get sick or something?” That was Rachel. He was smirking at me when he asked if I was okay. I shook my head and then got up from the bench.

“Nah, I'm okay. I'm just not sure if Mercury is going to like me much when he learns who my uncle is.

“Well, this is your chance. He's coming over here right now.” This is not going well. If I'm going to be the alpha I should be, then I’m going to start standing up for myself. I need to start being strong. I need to get my pack back, and they are waiting for me to get it back so I can lead them. Sighing, I stood there waiting for Mercury to walk up. I sat back on the bench with my arm around Tori. I could tell he was looking at me and her, then my arm around her. I slowly took my arm away from her. Finally, he reached us.

‘So, you're the man that my daughter was talking about in our mindlink. Alright, stand up, let me see you.” This is weird. Why does he want me to stand up so he could see me? Couldn't he see me while I was sitting down? I stood up, letting him see how tall I was. He circled around me like a lion about to pounce. When he was in front of me again, he was smirking at me.

Man, I haven't seen you since you were only ten years old, and I was kicking your uncle's ass. Now tell me why you are here and not at your pack leading it. What did he do for you to be here, or what did you do?" s**t, he remembers me. I was about to tell him everything that had happened when Isaiah walked up with another guy. Damn, I think I just f****d up staying here as long as I did. I think I wore out my welcome.

"Listen, I didn't do anything. My parents died. My uncle was supposed to have been teaching me how to be a good alpha, but in reality, he was feeding me wolfbane and silver. He held me in a cell for a few years, telling everyone I was dead. He fed me, but while he was feeding me, he was putting wolfbane in the food. He didn't know the wolfbane didn't bother me anymore, but he knew it. So one night he came to my cell. I didn't know there was silver in my food. Once I finished eating it, I felt my insides burning. I passed out. I didn't know how long I was out. When I woke up, I was in the woods with dirty ripped shorts and a torn-up shirt. I was dirty, and my hair was matted. I didn't even look like myself. When I tried going back, the guards threatened me, thinking I was a rogue. They told me if I ever came back, they would kill me.

So, I left for the human world, found clean clothes. A few days later, I found a job and a place so I could sleep and shower. I got better, got money, and then returned to the territory. The guards realized who I was. They told me they would keep me informed on things, and when I was ready, they would be by my side. I just need to have people who want to fight beside me so I can get the alpha throne from him.

"Well, when do you want to do this? I am all for it. So is the rest of the family."
