I tighten the coat around my body, the winter air sharp against my skin. I don't want to go home yet—not to the quiet, empty house where my dad is probably at his office, overworking himself as usual, unaware that his daughter is standing on a street corner, feeling like an afterthought. My fingers tremble slightly as I pull out my phone, scrolling through my contacts. I hesitate for a moment before pressing Mia’s name. The phone rings once. Twice. "Hey, babe!" Mia’s voice is bright, filled with warmth, as if she’s been waiting for this call. "What’s up?
