CHAPTER THREE It was near morning before Mia finally emerged from the forest, finding herself in an established neighborhood with modest, seventies-style, split-level homes and mature trees. As she came up to the chain link fence surrounding a lawn full with a swing set and trampoline, a drooling pit bull raced up and started to bark viciously at her. Backing away, she hurried along the fence until the dog was out of view, to another home with no fence. She hurried down the street, finally stopping at a 7-Eleven store to catch her breath.
