CHAPTER 17 Alena POV Patrick hands me another shot and I laugh when he leads me back onto the dance floor. “You look so good tonight!” he says and runs his hands up my body a little too roughly. I softly push at his hands. “Hi! Not so hard!” “I am touching you like I always touch you,” he says, and pulls me against him. We start to move to the music and as we get into the moment, I see Evander talking to a girl at the bar. “He’s gonna get lucky tonight,” Patrick whistled, and I try to smile as I looked away. We dance and as the beat picks up, he starts doing moves to make me laugh. I start to record him with my phone and then he grabs me and kisses me. I put my phone away and then Patrick swings me around, then he stumbles out of the blue. ‘Hi! You OK?” I asked and he nodded, a look of irritation immediately registered on his face, making me confused. He starts to turn me around so my back is against his chest and it happens again. I look at him concerned and that's when I see the girl dancing behind him hitting him with her elbow. “Hi!” I wanted to tell her to be more careful but he stops me by kissing me. “It's nothing, just ignore it, just a couple of drunk girls wanting a spot on the dancefloor." He says as he pulls away. I decide to let it go as I wrap my arms around his neck. He smiles at me, his blue eyes twinkling in a way that I absolutely adore. His blond hair had fallen over his brow and I softly brushed it back into place. “I miss you,” I say and he smiles at me. I love it when his eyes turn soft. ‘What do you mean? I’m right here?” “No, I mean us, without anything and everyone. I miss just being a reckless student with you. Remember that one time the security guard caught us?” I ask and he gives me his most horrified expression. “How could I forget! He was literally an old man gawking at us through the window with his flashlight!” I burst out laughing and softly kiss his lips. He pulls back a little too quickly and I look at him. “Are we OK?” I ask and he laughs, looking at my shoulder. He kisses it and I could swear I saw tears shining in his eyes. He didn't look at me. “We’re fine! Stop making things worse than they are. I know it can’t be easy when people like Cathy bring up your past, but you have to let it go. Even Evander thinks so too,``his words make me immediately push at his chest. “Patrick, please tell me you didn’t tell a total stranger about my brother,” I say and he looked surprised by my paniced expression. “He’s not a stranger. He was asking where your brother was. It just slipped out.” He suddenly lets me go as some of his friends come by hollering, they wanted to take shots. I watch him go. I just stood there for a second. I walked to our table and sat down between some of the girls. I’ve seen them a couple of times when we hung out with Patrick's friends from college. They were the type of girls you would always see when you go out. Perfect makeup and hair. They would usually post about their night out every ten minutes and end the night off with a gorgeous guy. They lived for the night and I was the opposite of that and chatting with them made me miss Dewei so much. Dewei and I went out to forget about a bad day and I miss dancing with her. I decide to Facetime her, because, in a way, yes, chatting with these girls was nice, but there is a difference between someone you know and a friend. These girls were certainly not my friends. “Hi!” She shouts when her face appears on the screen. I quickly stand up and made my way to the back door, slipping out into the alley. I check down the alley and see no one and I feelmore grateful than I thought I would. “I miss you so much tonight!” “Well, your face timing me while you're at a club, so you must be lonely! Where the hell is Patrick?” She asks and I look over my shoulder at him dancing with his friends as I close the door. There were a couple of girls dancing with them, but I didn’t really mind. I trusted him. “He’s on the dance floor, I’m not lonely, I just wanted to see and hear my best friend. Being surrounded by a bunch of girls that act like we’re best friends is quite...” I can’t find the right word. “Draining, insufferable?” she says and I nod and she smiles at me. “ Let me guess the other dancers are terrible on the tour, making you feel like this too?” “ Always on tour, I’m just surprised no one has tried to slip pieces of glass into my shoes yet!” “Just come home,” I beg and she laughs. “I miss you too my bestie and I’m sorry I can’t be there for your race," she makes a weird sound, "..knowing it's on the date you dread the most is killing me,” she says and my eyes widen. “No,” I whispered as I then realised it too. I’m quiet and her brows pull into concern. “s**t, I just made it worse by pointing that out, didn't I?” “No, you're the best and I’m grateful for you! But I hated you today!” “Why?” Now she’s the one that sounds horrified. “Well, the gift you got me well Evander and Garret saw it!” She freaks out and demands I tell her the whole story. I do and then she laughs so hard and I can’t help but join her. I then realise she’s lying on a bed and it doesn’t look like she’s wearing a shirt. ‘’Wait, please tell me you're alone,” I hear a guy's laughter in the background and she says something in Chinese. “Oh my gosh!” She just gave me a satisfied smirk. “You're my best friend, I will always answer no matter what!” She says and I cover my face with my hand. “And seeing that you're a little tipsy stopped me from telling you! So..” She says something in Chinese again and I curse when I see her pull a face. Oh my gosh was the guy going down on her? Oh no!!! “I’ll talk to you tomorrow! I love you bye!” I say and she echoes my words at the exact same time as she tries to hide a moan. I laugh so hard as I end the call. I am holding my phone against my chest when someone coughs behind me. My first reaction is to scream so I do. Evander steps out of the shadows smiling. “Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you,” he flicks his cigarette to the side and steps towards me. His black shirt hugging every defined piece of him. “How long have you been standing there?” I said and he shook his head. “You’re the one intruding.” I realised I would have heard the door opening if someone came out. So he must have been out here all along. “Why are you out here all alone?” I wonder if the girl he was talking to was also going to step out of the shadows. I try to peek around him. “I needed a break,” he looked me up and down. “So that was Dewei?” “Yeah,” I say and he nods. I saw no sign of the girl and looked back at him. I noted that he looked so uncertain of himself and when I figured out why, I c****d my head. ‘What did Patrick tell you?” I asked and he looked away. “Alena, look I’m..” he started to say, but I, narrowed my eyes at him. “If you're about to say you're sorry for me, please swallow it, Evander. I don't need to hear it.” He’s quiet and when I look away he takes a step closer. “Did you feel it?” His question catches me so off guard that the memory hits me like a tidal wave.
