Chapter 4: Who Are You Calling a Fool?

1229 Words
Jennifer put on makeup and changed into the clothes Quentin Tyler had picked out for her, then walked out of the new house with Quentin Tyler. As they descended the stairs, memories of last night's events flooded back to her, her legs still trembling, her body aching all over, unable to walk steadily. Fortunately, Quentin Tyler noticed in time, wearing a silly smile on his face as he supported her waist. The Tyler Family's hall was adorned with festive characters, indicating that The Tyler Family was still in the midst of celebrating the recent wedding. In the spacious and elegant dining room, a large and long dining table was set, with Mrs. Eleanor Tyler sitting at the head, wearing a beaming smile. There were also some uncles and aunts sitting on both sides of the table, with at least seven or eight people on each side. This scene made Jennifer feel uneasy; she had never seen so many people having breakfast together in one house. Jennifer pretended to be obedient as she nodded and smiled at the elders. Catching a glimpse of the sumptuous breakfast on the table, she couldn't help but swallow her saliva secretly; her stomach was really hungry at the moment. Mrs. Eleanor Tyler, Isabella Vanderbilt, beckoned to them, "Good grandchildren, come to Grandma." Jennifer saw two empty seats beside Mrs. Eleanor Tyler, which should be reserved for the two of them. Quentin, like a child of a few years old, called out, "Grandma," and sat down next to Isabella. She had no choice but to follow suit and sit down, asking, "Can we start eating?" "It's so rude! You only come down at this hour, making all the elders wait for you two. No one has touched their chopsticks, and you're clamoring to eat. Do you have any manners as a new bride?" Jennifer glanced at the stern Helen Howard Tyler, disdainful of arguing with her, and slightly lowered her head towards the old lady, blushing, "Grandma, last night, I... Quentin and I were both tired all night, so I..." Before she could finish her sentence, a maid who looked to be in her fifties or sixties walked up to the old lady and whispered something in her ear. The old lady looked at Jennifer, showing a satisfied smile, "Newlyweds are like this, it's okay, it's okay. Nanny Rose, quickly give Jennifer a bowl of nut porridge; she worked hard last night." "Mom! The new bride who just entered the door can't be too indulged..." The Aunt, Helen Howard Tyler, hadn't finished speaking yet when Victor Tyler, sitting next to her, interrupted her, "Shut up, Mom hasn't said anything, it's your turn to talk about Quentin's wife." Seeing her husband's displeased expression, Helen Howard didn't dare to say anything else and glared fiercely at Jennifer. Unexpectedly, after relying on her sharp tongue for decades in The Tyler Family, she was now being challenged by this woman who had just married into the family. Jennifer also stared back without showing weakness, thinking that now that she had reached this point, she wouldn't be afraid of anyone. Whoever dared to provoke her in The Tyler Family, she wouldn't be polite either! "Alright, alright, let's have breakfast." The old lady spoke up, "My good grandson has finally officially started a family, and I, as an old lady, am so happy." During breakfast, the members of The Tyler Family all followed the old lady's lead and congratulated them again. Jennifer looked at these masked faces and knew in her heart that none of these people were easy to deal with. Before marrying Quentin Tyler, Edward Anderson had specifically told her about the general situation of The Tyler Family, which was as complicated and dramatic as a TVB drama. Quentin's biological mother had passed away long ago, and he, being a fool, was not favored by his biological father. In The Tyler Family, he actually had no status or real power. The only fortunate thing was that Mrs. Eleanor Tyler didn't care that Quentin was a fool and loved him the most, so she still treated him as a young master. But it was said that Mrs. Eleanor Tyler's health had been worrying in recent years, and at this rate, she wouldn't be able to protect him for long. Thinking like this, Jennifer felt that life was not easy for Quentin Tyler, born into a wealthy family. She felt a bit sympathetic towards him, and couldn't help but glance at him, meeting his vacant gaze and silly smile. Seeing that Quentin Tyler hadn't touched his chopsticks at all and was grabbing a sandwich and stuffing it into his mouth, she pretended to be concerned, picked up the plate in front of him, and said, "Quentin, don't eat by yourself, you've dirtied your clothes. Let me feed you." Quentin immediately clapped his hands and said, "Okay, okay, wife feeds." "Open your mouth." Saying this, Jennifer cut all his breakfast into small pieces and fed them to him like taking care of a child. The more the old lady looked at Jennifer, the more satisfied she became. The Anderson Family's daughter, who had returned from abroad and had never been heard of before, matched her good grandson so well. After breakfast, the old lady asked everyone to stay for a while longer and directly announced that since Quentin had started a family, she would give the fashion company under her name to Quentin. The atmosphere in the dining room suddenly became serious, and Quentin only knew to act foolish and clap his hands in approval. As Jennifer Sullivan, his wife, was about to thank the old lady, a young woman of similar age to her stood up suddenly. The young woman was dressed in fashionable brands from head to toe, with a heart-shaped face and slightly curly short hair, looking cute and competent. She said discontentedly, "Grandma, VogueWorks Fashion has always been managed by me. How could you hand over my hard work to a fool?" "Who are you calling a fool?" Jennifer stood up from her chair in an instant. Knowing that Quentin Tyler was only pretending to be foolish, Jennifer understood very well that if she wanted to establish herself in The Tyler Family, the first step was to please Quentin Tyler. To gain his trust, she had to actively stand up for him when he was being bullied while pretending to be foolish. "You're not allowed to say that about Quentin; apologize to Quentin immediately!" Jennifer glared at Vanessa Tyler, appearing to fiercely defend Quentin Tyler. Vanessa Tyler looked at her disdainfully, "What are you, everyone knows that The Anderson Family used their daughter as a bargaining chip to connect with our The Tyler Family. Unable to bear selling off the one by their side, they found you, this wild seed, from somewhere! Whoever you were sold to, they're the fool!" "No matter what my previous status was, after marrying into The Tyler Family, I am your sister-in-law, Quentin is your brother, and Vanessa, as a young lady of our The Tyler Family, how can you speak such derogatory words that undermine your own status? It's really embarrassing." Jennifer Sullivan showed no signs of weakness and retorted. "Uncle, Aunt, is this how you taught Vanessa?" Jennifer Sullivan finished speaking and deliberately looked surprised at Helen Howard and Victor Tyler.
