"emma,run!"
She said as her voice tore through the storm, rain lashing against our skin.
"I tried desperately to run. Tiny feets, feeble legs."
"Tears welling up in my eyes."
She held my hands tightly.
voices.
shadows.
Eyes.
"I could feel their stare, so close it was creeping through my skin, getting closer with every breath."
I didn't understand what was going on or who was holding my hands.
I try hard to get a view of her face. With every attempt, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see her face.
"Keep running!" she cried, her voice overwhelmed with desperation and a hint of fear.
I looked up at her again.
I wanted to see her face.
I needed to see her face.
i tried.
But once again...... I couldn't.
I could feel the fear emanating through her body and told me everything words couldn't
She wasn't afraid for herself.
She was afraid for me.
Like a precious treasure, like a treasured family heirloom past down through generations, like a promise you made during the toughest days.
I knew her, it felt like I did, my heart told me I did.
"But do I?" I asked myself, delusionally praying the answers would come.
I shouldn't have tho........ I regret what came after.
"Boom!".
A deafening c***k split through the air.
Leaving a whistling sensation ringing in my ears.
I look back........ fire!
Before I could do anything else.
I heard them again...... voices.
This time louder, speaking in a language I didn't know.
Then suddenly we stopped running......" Emma," she whispers, this time squeezing my hand.
"Don't let go."
She knew time was not on our side. She looked at me, at least it felt that way. The rain blurred every feature, and the shadows seemed to engulf the rest. It was as though my mind refused to let me get a glimpse.
"I love you," she said, as she slipped a silver necklace into my hand. The chills from the cold necklace spread through my body.
The shadows surged forward, this time visible.
I screamed.
The necklace slipped from my hand.
Someone grabbed my arm.
"mum!"
She reached for me.
I reached for her.
But our fingers never touched.
The storm slowly swallowed her screams.
and then.........
darkness.
My eyes flew open.
Tears filled the pillow, my heart pounding violently against my ribs, gasping for air.
For what felt like forever, I stared into empty space.....trying to make sense of what I saw.
The dream.
again.
The same dream.
the same storm.
The same terrifying feeling that I had lost something.
"Emma!" I screamed loudly......" Who is Emma?"
Questions I had no answer to.
The words still rung in my head.
I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to grasp what was left of the details before they disappeared.
But.....just like always. It slipped.
"Emma?"
That's all I was left with.
The dream felt too real.
almost like a memory.
"Who was Emma?"
And why did the name feel so familiar, leaving me with a sad demeanor.
i swallowed hard.
I didn't know it yet, but that name was going to change a lot.
