from nothing, to a clue, to finding home

Jac's P.O.V Time to leave. Leave the base, the people and our comfortable space. The two young twins are back on exploring the world together, but with a purpose this time, finding our father. We only knew Alex for a short period of time but it was still hard to tell him goodbye. He promised to be a good boy if we promised we would come back home. He called the base his home. He found new people, new friends and mostly new family. All rouges care about each other and help each other. He fitted right in and made many friends. When we left, the rouges hugged us, wished us good luck and said goodbye, see you later. They all knew we were coming back. If we made a promise, we would keep it. If we were on our last breath, we would try and make it to the base just to stick to the promise. But they also knew we were going to leave for a long time, longer than ever before. We left and ran, ran as far as possible. What now. We are finally running but were do we go? What is our plan? "What's our plan?" Sam asked me since I always made the plans and she did the plans. "I honestly don't know. Where did we come from six years ago, maybe that would leave us with a path to follow, or not. But I don't know where we came from." I said. "Not near Colin and not near Nick and Blossom, so somewhere that way." She said pointing with her snout. We ran that way until it was getting dark. "Sleep tomorrow?" I asked and she nodded. We kept running even after the forest was dark and asleep. We ran on a normal wolf's sprinting speed, our jogging. The forest was dark but we could see perfectly fine. We found a lake and decided to drink something before continuing our run. When I was drinking as saw my reflection in the water with the full moon above me. My tongue hitting the water created small ripples and made the moon shine reflect on my face. The same happened to Sam. She turned to look at the full moon. If we were ever changing and would ever be able to walk around in human form I would give her a moon necklace, moon rings, moon piercings, moon everything. She was so obsessed with the moon, the moon goddess must love her for it. I looked around me and saw the shining eyes of some night monkeys and other animals living in the night. The were making soft noises and jumped from tree to tree. We began running again and some animals were following us in the trees but they couldn't keep up with us. Running in the dark always gave me this amazing feeling of being free. We ran and suddenly the sun rose again. We smelled animals waking up or going to sleep. We also noticed we were in someone's territory again. We avoided all wolf or human like scents and passed it safely. Since everyone was just waking up there weren't many wolves outside. I think we ran through four different territories that day and we had a lot more to pass before we're back at where our lives once started. We even came across some rouges that day. We decided to sleep with five around a campfire that night. We agreed and fell asleep after they did. We didn't have as much fun with them as we have with the rouges at the base but everyone can be fun if you get to know them better. Rouges come across strangers all the time and often sleep with other rouges for protection but don't stay together long. We did the same. We woke up and waited for them to wake up. We never left sleeping rouges alone, we are taught about the dangers that carries. It is somewhat like a rule for rouges now to let sleeping rouges alone. Once they woke up we already hunted and gave them some of our breakfast, we made sure to catch more than just for the two of us. We left them and they wished us a happy search for our father and hoped we would find him. We said goodbye and started running again. We ran for a day and a half, slept and ran again for many weeks. We weren't seeing much new stuff and decided to search for mountains to spent some time. Climbing in trees has always been very easy for us but pine trees aren't so strong on top and don't really hold our weight. We found a mountain after balancing on the tree and then falling down. We ran towards it and arrived before darkness fell. We climbed up to were the snow was and buried ourselves in the snow. We dug a hole in the snow and laid in it. As the night fell new snow came on top of us and finished our work. We slept for the whole night and half of the following day. We went down the mountain, hunted some breakfast and started running again. We did watch the land beneath us while we were on the mountain. We liked a bit of variation. Sometimes we slept in trees, sometimes in holes in the ground, next to lakes, on mountains or just in the middle of the forest. We ran until we started recognising some things. "Sam?" I said stopping. She came back and looked at me curious. "Yes?" "Didn't we sleep in that tree when we were little?" I asked her pointing my snout towards a giant oak with a hole in its trunk. "Yes, I believe we did. We finally found something that gives us the idea we are going the right direction." She said happy. We started running again but now with a better feeling in our guts. We knew we were somewhere closer, after running for two months or so. We ran for a couple days without trespassing someones territory, we got a bit suspicious there might be something wrong. Often, when there is no pack living in a territory, that's because people attacked the pack, destroyed it or killed the alpha. I began thinking, since we did smell wolves in the distance, this might be our previous pack. Sam didn't believe me put when I noticed a certain tree, I changed her mind. "Look at that weeping willow. It sure looks a lot like the tree we used to eat under with mom and dad." I said. "Only one way to find out." She said and we walked towards the tree. We walked through the willows branches and looked at the trunk. There it was. Sam and I set our claw marks on the tree to claim it. They were small compared to our claws now but they just about the average males size. Remember, we were somewhere near eight at the time. We were catching the scents of some wolves approaching us. We climbed in our, our, weeping willow and spotted a couple beneath us. I felt like I knew them but I couldn't remember. "Do we know them?" I asked Sam unsure. "I don't know. I have the feeling like we do but I don't even know their names." She said just as unsure as I was. We listened to them for a while. "So? What happened here? To this pack? I mean, wolves who claim to be a pack but without an alpha? What happened?" The girl asked. "Friends of mine killed our former alpha, and rightly so. That was six years ago and now we live like this." The boy said. "You told me that a thousand times already. Who were your friends and were are they now? Why was your alpha rightfully killed? You never want to talk about it but I want to know what's going on in you mind." She said. "What exactly do you want to know?" He asked. "Your friends, everything about them." She said. "My friends, it was a long time ago and I haven't seen them for six years. I've heard rumours about two giant black wolves and if those rumours are true, those might be them, but I don't know. They were twins, born wolves. They spoke to you using mind link and were really kind to everyone. Our alpha didn't like them though. He locked them up for the smallest things. First for them not willing to shift, they couldn't and he knew that, then for disobeying him and many more stupid things he would make up. They even spend two years in the dungeons being tortured by the alpha. I remember visiting them at night, risking my life. The guards didn't mind it but if the alpha would find out he would have me and the guards guarding at that time killed. I gave them food, water and a friend. They have a good heart and I know they would have done the same. I cried when I was visiting them. One of them had a nail pulled out slowly and bit by bit. He was constantly in pain." He said and I felt the pain I had when it was happening. It still hurts when I think of it. "The other had a huge wound across her right eye. I always told her it made her look cool and like a warrior but she just complained about the grin the alpha had when he did it. The alpha made wounds all around her face but that was her favourite and she probably still has that scar." Now I saw Sam closing her eyes and feeling the pain. I know she saw the alpha's grin in her mind. Poor Sam. "What happened to them next?" The girl asked. "They were free and were training even more. Alpha didn't approve to it but their patents wanted them to be able to protect themselves if anything were to happen. They trained, ate and slept for two years. Then the alpha called in a pack meeting in the hall. I was standing in the hall already and knew their parents were on the stage and then I saw them walking in searching for their parents. They was them and their hearts broke, mine too. Their parents were tied up on stage. The alpha gave a speech about them being traitors and disobeying him, that's what others told me at least. All I remember from then is me looking at them. My best friends were looking at their parents, hurt. That shock. I looked and just saw their mothers head getting chopped off by the alpha's sword. The girl ran towards the alpha and killed him with little effort and much anger. They ran away and left their father alone. I haven't seen them since that day. Only rumours as I already told you.
