Chapter 4 - Restaurant

989 Words
Alysia The rest of the day went pretty smooth. After pulling Kal with me to class and forcing him to focus. That day I skipped lunch and went to the Library. I avoided Jason as much as I could because I was dreading having to train him. I was currently in my last class of the day which was American History with Kal and Jason. Kal sat on my right since all his friends was on that side and Jason sat behind him. I didn't mind when Kal was around his friends. Everyone knew we were best friends and I DID NOT want to be part of the popular group. Right as the bell was about to ring, in walked the person I hated seeing in school, Roshni. I knew she had gym as her last class. After attendance was taking, our teacher Ms. Green told us Roshni was now in this class and she obviously went and sat with Kris all the way in the back of the classroom to my left two rows behind me. I officially hated this class.  At the end of the class, the teacher tells us we have to pick a chapter in our book and do a research paper that we will be presenting. That is two presentations I have to do now. I skimmed through the book and decided on Jamestown and placed a post-it so I knew to do some research during my free time at the restaurant. I turned to look at Kal who was goofing off with his friends and noticed Jason staring at me. I rolled my eyes and turned to packed up my things. I usually dropped all my books at my locker and only took what I needed for homework. The less I carried the better.  Jason Alysia turned around and caught me staring at her. I tried to play it cool and laugh with the guys at whatever joke one of them said but it was too late, she had turned around rolling her eyes. I didn't even want to be here. A few weeks ago, my dad tells me I am going to go help out an old friend of his. I made one stupid mistake and get shipped off across the US. Now I am staying at their house, helping out, and going to school. Dad says its temporary but I know its probably until the end of the school year. When I arrived, I knew his friend had married someone with kids. I had arrived a day early and met up with my dads friend who showed me around the farm. When I walked inside to grab something to drink, I did not expect to Alysia dancing. Since that first meeting, she has been hostile. I have tried small talk and since the farm has slowed down, they have asked me to help out in the restaurant. I know why my dad sent me. He wants me to learn the ropes here because when I go back home, I will be taking over his farm so he can retire. I noticed that Alysia at school is different than Alysia at home. At school, she is shy and reserved but when she is around people she knows she becomes the life of the party. I have gotten close to her best friend Kal. I never had a guy friend and Kal has shown me around school and even started hanging out with his friends. The bell rang suddenly, causing me to get out of my thoughts. I went to walk with Alysia but she was already gone. Kal looked at me and said "she always runs out the door after last period" he shook his head laughing and started flirting with another girl.  "I'll catch up with you later" I told Kal as he started walking with the girl. I always saw him flirting but that was it. I silently prayed that hopefully the rest of the day goes smooth. Alysia I dropped my things off at my locker and waited for Jason at the gates that led to the bus. We would take the same school bus as if we were going home but get off two stops ahead. The bus driver was pretty cool with letting me off since everyone knew my moms restaurant. As we got on the bus, we start a few seats away from the door and Jason sat right next to me. I was about to put my headphones in, when he asked me a question. I was caught off guard. "Why don't you like me?" Jason asked. I looked at him and responded "what".  "What I mean is, why are you closed off? Every time I try to make conversation, you close yourself off." Jason said. I thought about having a smart remark but I realized this is the most serious he has ever been. "I have a hard time trusting people because of things that happened in the past" I said looking out the window. "look, I am not saying we have to be best friends, but maybe try to be friends. We have to put up with each other and we live. go to school, and work in the same place", Jason said, pleading with his eyes.  I stared in his eyes and realized just how rude I had been. I was so mad at my mom for bringing a stranger in the house, I never realized how mean i was to him. "yea, we can be friends. I will try harder to be nicer", I said with a smile.  The rest of the bus ride to the restaurant was quiet and on the walk over, Alysia pointed out some interesting facts.  "Maybe you can show me around town, when your free. "Jason said. Alysia looked at him and nodded, "yea, sounds like a plan" she said as they walked into the restaurant.
