His words 'I care for you' echo through my thoughts as though he had proclaimed his love. But care is a far distance from love. I can't insert meanings that have no bearing into his words.
My heart balances precariously enough as it is, wanting more from him, knowing I can never acquire it. I can never be more than his mistress, more than the she-wolf with whom he has an affair.
